Damien Woody said the pats will start Maye once they feel he's ready to handle their offense and NFL QB play. The offensive line is not the driving factor. If he's ready and better than Brissett, then he'll be in. So many in the media decided the o-line was the driving factor and they got that from.... themselves.... like so many other things they contrive for some sort of drama angle.

Unfortunately that decision is being made by people who so far don’t seem to be good at making decisions about football.

I agree. Even though he made some plays in his cameo, he was clearly nervous and made some bad throws. There is zero upside to throwing him out there if that is where he is at right now.

The NFL is littered, every year, with teams playing rookie QBs that are not ready, purely to appease fans or buy time for their job, only to see them get broken and thrown out 2 or 3 years later.

I stopped reading right there Mac Jones is better than Brissett what does that tell you??

Absolute BS! I guess you enjoy watching Brissett misery loves company.

Issue is, Mayo basically said Drake Maye is ready, and also is better than Brissett, in August. So it creates a lot of confusion.

Of course this is the case the idea that the OL would dictate this decision is just wrong.

Otherwise would Chicago have to consider giving Caleb some time off. His OL is pretty much at the bottom of the league too. Maybe he's ok now but what if several olinemen go down do they sit him?

Once they feel confident he knows the offense and that his mechanics are where they want they should play him.

I don't think he said that at all. Pretty much the opposite. All he really said was that Maye played well.

It would only be logical to assume that other stuff like knowledge of the playbook and mechanics is why they still chose Jacoby.

The NE OL is the scapegoat.

QBs can make their OLs look great by getting rid of the ball and moving in the pocket.
While I agree, I think that we need to wait until Lowe comes back.

The one thing I can point to right now about Mayo is that he will say something and the Patriots will do the opposite thing. I'm not saying he can't be a great coach or a good leader of men. But I do not trust anything he says.

I don't think the OL is the main issue. But some people still say, "He can learn more by playing." And that's where I think the OL argument comes up. Maybe he could learn more. He could also get ruined by this oline. So why don't we let him develop and let Brissett take the hits until Maye is ready?

After watching Jayden on Monday, we gotta question whether we got the right coaching staff to develop a young QB. Jayden looked comfortable in that offense. I don't think Washington has the greatest OL and weapons but they're making it work with Jayden. Kingsbury, for all the crap he got while being the HC at Arizona, seems to be in sync with his young QB.

l hope that Maye has a sense of where the ball is going before its snapped. Also, looking at the Defense and considering all options at his and their disposal. Brisset has been blitzed very little about 12 times which is bottom of the league.

Haven’t they been saying this from the start? “He will play when he’s ready”? Like op said, it’s the media blaming the line. Yea it’s **** but a competent qb helps the line. Goes both ways.

Disagree. Mayo said at points that Maye "outplayed Brissett" during their QB "competition", that Maye is "ready", and also said that it was only Brissett's "total body of work" that made him the starter. Perhaps they are sticking to some pre-ordained development plan that he has not yet completed, but Mayo's comments undermine that concept.

Yeah I do recall all those comments. My interpretation was more that he was ready and played better than Brissett but that he still had more to learn and work on before they determined him better than Jacoby's entire body of work.

Otherwise then they should make the change now if he's ready and was better at the end of camp then all that has occurred since is Jacoby proved unable to play to the level of his former body of work.

Brissett playing over Maye is a combination of a few things...
1) Maye was/is a very raw prospect and played at a smaller school (not as NFL ready).
2) The realization we are still in a rebuild - so we dont need to play our "best chance at winning" QB
3) The dismal state of our OL. I absolutely disagree that this OL issue is "media driven"... Jets game was hard to watch.

I am generally a fan of "trial by fire" but in this case lets wait a few weeks. We all know we are a bottom-half (at best) team, so lets develop him right and if/when season is "lost" we can throw him in there for development.
