This was never going to be a great season

The Jets will be tuned up when they visit Foxboro in a few weeks.

The 40 is coming.
They can run on the Jets, they won't give them the ball enough to get 40.
Jets will not be more "tuned" than a prime-time game where Rodgers plays his first home game where they totally dominate and scored 24 points.

I think our viewpoints differ because when i look at the roster and see what they did on the off season and the improvement/decline from last year, i saw many games like this coming and i think we overachieved the first 2 weeks. Most of what happened vs the jets was what I saw coming, awful OL, bad OC, a run defense, particularly front 7 that is a shell of the good defense we had, and a roster with severe lack of depth.

I think the 49ers offense is going to have a field day attacking guys like Uche, pharms, McMillan, ekuale, Hawkins out there. Those guys played over 200 combined snaps. We also threw Johnson, Pettit, Giles, dial, Ellis out there for a handful of snaps, meaning our depth is a bunch of guys who belong on practice squads. This defense is heading hard in the wrong direction.
They were heading that way since SB53. I remember when the genius former HC got waxed 47-17 by a division rival in the playoffs and then destroyed in 2 games last season by a combined 72-3 score…case in point.

Every team bottoms out. Every team does. It all depends on what you do to get out of that. Scratch that, not every team does but those that don't chug along in NFL purgatory. Doesn't mean you don't get out of the bottom if you aren't smart about it but man it infuriates me that some "fans" are completely content with 8-9, 9-8 and maybe a playoff game that you get blown out in. Year in, year out the same thing, hope and promise only to come crashing down.

If Maye is the guy and next offseason they do the following. FA grab or trade for a Grade A no kidding WR. Draft a blue chip high end LT and maybe even a center.

What would people say then? Rome wasn't built in a day and this franchise was left in dire, dire straits. Give it a couple of years before you start hammering them. I will be right there with you.

Thursday night we looked worse than last years teams that supposedly “hit bottom”.
After resigning our own Free Agents we had about 60,000,000 in cap space and the 3rd pick in each round to improve the 2023 team.

What players that we signed with that 60 mill and drafted with their drafts picks showed up Thursday as an improvement over 2023.

That is how you judge a front office.

With a good/great offensive line and health, this could have been a great season.

Brissett would have eventually been replaced by Maye and he would have determined how far in the playoffs they could have gone.

Instead it's what we have now...

How did you expect to have a good ol if you dint get good OLmen?
This team stinks, and it stinks because of the front office.

After resigning our own free agents we had over 60 mill to sign free agents and the 3rd pick in each round.

Out of all those resources, what positive contributions did we get Thursday from the players we brought in. With 60 mill and a while draft did we add a single player who was average or better Thursday? Did we improve any spot on the roster over last year?

Yeah, my reimagining of how this season could have gone started in the offseason before free agency and the draft.

Let me ask you. Would hiring a coach that you think would have been better or more experienced have suddenly changed the teams direction from rebuilding? No matter who came here to coach the team was going to have to be rebuilt. Also that coach would have to agree to what mayo has with wolf having final say. Most experienced coaches aren't going to want to endure that. They want to win! I believe Mayo's a great hire. I believe he's also doing a great job. Yeah Thursday was a ass kicking however I believe this team is more of who they showed to be that previous 2 weeks. Let's support our team.
What's your opinion on Wolfe?

Agreed. I don’t mind losing if there’s a plan.

Yeah teams have stinkers it happens once in a while. Also Thursday wasn’t nearly as embarrassing as BB’s defense getting de-pantsed 47-17 in a wild card game to another division rival.
What's the plan? I don't see it.

Your not wrong. Thursday was absolutely an embarrassment. As sb1 pointed out that 47-17 ass kicking at Buffalo was in my opinion the most embarrassing lost in recent patriots memories. The Jets scored 24 points.. it's not like they dropped 40 on us. But I see your point. This team is closer to what we saw the first 2 weeks where they competed for 60 mins Tham the Jets game.
They scored what they needed. If they needed more they would have.

Andrews is breaking down at Center and we have no RT. Does almost average = below average? So if we add Alt we are below average instead of bottom of the barrel?

Hope is not a football strategy.
Yes, we would have a below average OL on a below average Offense.

It is my opinion, a below average OL and Offense this year (say 20-22nd) might have us in the playoff hunt.

Of course, that assessment was before the Bentley injury which is devastating for Defense.
==================
Of course, we should aim higher.

Presuming that we add 1-2 top players to the defensive front six in the off-season, I would have the same view for next year. An average Offense (not likely) would probably make us a favorite for the playoffs (perhaps through a wildcard spot). A slightly below average Offense would have us competitive for a WC spot.

And, then I would expect better in 2026, the year extensions seem to be pointing to.

This team was never going to be in the playoffs this year. People need to get out of thinking it's a few tweaks away. We are not some formidable team that would make the playoffs if only our line was "below average".

If we had one of the best lines in the league, we might make the playoffs and be a quick one and done with our weapons.

I agree with all of that. Here's some considerations.

1) Waiting for the draft risks not getting the top LT or even a reasonable starter).

2) You presume that the best LT in next year's draft will be the best use of our top ten pick. I suggest that a top DT or LB might have more effect on the team's prospects. I am NOT saying that we shouldn't draft the top LT, just saying that we don't know the choices now, and won't know them until after the first part of the off-season.

As was the case this year (when both parts of the plan were failures), I would sign a veteran LT and then expect to draft a top LT. The 2024 plan was sound; the failure was in the execution.

I think that our lousy roster is one player away from being almost average. Consider the current roster with Alt starting at LT.
I guess I just don't see this, though "almost average" might be so unambitious a standard that you could have a point. I would nevertheless stick to my guns re the quality of Wolf's manner of player acquisition and baffling strategic approach to roster development. He got us a young QB who might be good, but left us with a situation in which we cannot develop or fully evaluate him. What else? Precious damned little. Add to this his role in Belichick's record of drafting failure, and I see no reason to think we cannot do much better in a GM, nor do I see any reason to wait in remedying the situation. The fact, as you imply, that rebuilding a team need not necessarily be a very lengthy process only reinforces my point: Wolf has already had long enough to show what he can do, and it ain't much.

I agree. We need a lot for 2025: our QB to be ready, a top WR, a top LT, a Backup LT and perhaps even a RT. We also need to extend or replace our key free agents and add a top DT and/or LB.

Because we didn't sign a LT and our QB is at least a year away, we were never close to being competitive for the playoffs this year. Losing Judon, Barmore, Bentley and even Ximines just made things worse (as well as the injuries to Lowe and Sow).

What's the plan? I don't see it.
Well, for starters going young. Gradually develop their very young and hopefully soon to be franchise quarterback…they did the opposite with the last guy and it ended poorly. Drafting young receivers. Seeing who fits in for 2025z

Building toward the future like shipping a disgruntled and older Judon to Atlanta.

This should have all happened 4 seasons ago.

People really thought this defense was “great” last year and it was all the Qb that made 4-13 happen.

Reality check time.

These players played over 200 snaps on defense vs the jets.

Mcmillan
Ekuale
Pharms
Hawkins
Uche

These players also played snaps.

Johnson
Dial
Giles
Ellis
Pettus.

The jets put up 400 yards of offense. 27 First downs. Often ran at will. Rodgers completed 77% of his passes.
Geno Smith completed 75% of his passes and threw for 327.

This is not the defense we used to have that you are giving it credit for being
