Also the severity of each will differ
Severity and especially time in between concussions. Not a physician, speaking strictly from experience and personal research.

But I don't see it as a tough decision. $120 million vs. the very real possibility of losing 20-30 years of life and the last years of your life being a quadriplegic on a feeding and breathing tube. Especially when you may have $100 million in the bank.

Who knows what the doctors will tell him? They may not say playing is as risky as this. But if this is the options he is given, it is a no brainer which to choose. But that doesn't mean he doesn't choose to continue to play. But that is because people make stupid decisions all the time when it comes to emotional decisions.
I agree that he should consider retiring. However, when you are 26 years old most people don't think about what may happen at 40 or 50 years old. You think you will be young forever.

Then 50 comes and if you played a sport at a high level or an extended period of time, you start to feel the wear and tear. This is coming from someone who had 3 back surgeries and the latest was a fusion.

I just hope he does what is best for him and his family.

He gets hurt from the most mundane tackles. It is clear his body just isn't suited for football. Sad truth but he should have retired before this point. Money is clouding what is obvious.

Not every single player faces this very real possibility.
Every single player in the NFL faces the very real possibility of serious injury - or worse - on any single play in which they participate.

If you don't believe me, just ask Damar Hamlin.
Some players go their entire career without a concussion.
Yeah. Punters and kickers. If they're lucky.
But you are pretty much advocating for him to continue to play when you have no skin in the game either.
Where did I advocate for him to keep playing?
You might want to look in the mirror. Just because you are advocating continue playing doesn't mean you aren't telling people what to do without any skin in the game.
Where did I advocate for him to keep playing? All I ever said was:

1) It is easy for people with no skin in the game to tell other people what to do.
2) Tua has about 120 million reasons to keep playing, so it isn't quite the no-brainer some people act like it is.

You act as if Tua's contract has no guarantees.
His contract has plenty of guarantees, but "guarantees" in a contract assume the player keeps playing. If he is healthy and he retires, those "guarantees" all go away.

Stop it. I am talking about a player who has had multiple significant concussion including one that sent him immediately to hospital ended his season. He is an unique case.
No, it kinda really isn't. Tua isn't the first guy to suffer multiple concussions.
There are a lot of other former players advocating for him to retire from Dez Bryant to Antonio Brown to Tony Gonzalez to Shannon Sharpe. These are former players who had skin in the game during their careers.
Pretty hypocritical to quote guys who already played full careers. And they have no more skin in Tua's decision than you or me.

Yes, MIA could have their doctors judge him healthy enough to play. If he gets any long-term injury, the MIA franchise will lose a very, very large court case.
No, they won't.
I suppose Tua could appeal to the player's association and try to get a second opinion and the union's support. If he gets that, both the NFL AND MIA are on the hook if MIA won't pay the injury guarantee and force him to play for his money.
Well, that's why we have arbitration.

Hamlin is a terrible comp to Tua.

What happened to him was one in millions and unlikely to ever happen again.

Tua is concussion-prone.

Some guys just are.

Had a teammate who had 5 in ONE season.

But that was in the 90’s when we didn’t really understand the ramifications.

He ended up with a lot of issues with the law later on and was dead at 37 from a wreck where he ran from the cops.

Wasn’t a bad kid in HS so I always wonder if those concussions were the reason

No idea how he’s feeling. I’ve read a lot of reports alluding to the sub concussive hits being worse which are the ones positional players take over the life of their career.

Aikman and Young come to mind as QBs that took the type of hits Tua has been taking. It’s been mentioned that Aikman has taken 7 or 8 over his career but hasn’t come forward with any type of long term effects from his career. Nor did he file to become part of the concussion lawsuit. Again, this may be a whole different scenario because Tua has had 3 or 4 in only 3 years and is on pace for more than either Aikman and Young.

Certainly am not going to say he should or shouldn’t but I hope the people around him are being honest and sincere on where he’s at and how he’s doing.

Not on of those 120 million reasons will make a hill of beans difference in his actual day-to-day life. He had enough money to do, well, anything he wants to do.

His call, but he's risking a lot, and if it's just for financial reasons, he's a fool.

Regardless of his decision to continue or not, this is almost inevitably going to be a sad ending. Shouldn’t that make the decision?

If I'm the Dolphins I'm on the phone right now with Andy Reid to acquire Bailey Zappy.

Did I miss Zappe being signed to their 53? *checks the Chiefs Roster*.. Nope. I didn't miss it..

The Phins can just call Zappe's agent and sign him. They don't need to bug Andy Reid at all.

I believe that this was posted after the 3rd INT and before the concussion.
Of course it was. When posters lie on the site, you learn a lot about their personality. And a lot about the posters that quickly swallow the disinformation and pile on.

I suppose they will wait for medical evaluation. But really you have to think that he should stop playing. I feel for him, he seems a really nice guy. But he can't keep taking hits that may give him yet another concusion. Take it from me when you get older all of those injuries taken when young catch up with you. Retire and take care of your family, it all only comes around once.
