If fans can’t see that the intern from optimum is nothing more than a puppet for the krafts he is not qualified to be a dc let alone a hc ….the media in Boston has become soft except for felger who is right on about him …0-17 is in the table

That's a tad extreme. I don't think he's a puppet for R or J Kraft to run the team.
But, I do agree that Mayo was not ready, and he was a knee-jerk emotional decision for RKK.
Mayo doesn't know enough about all 3 phases to be a winning HC right now.
He also hired WAY TOO MANY assistants and gurus and whisperers. By the time he realizes that, it'll be too late.
But Kraft can't fire him for at least 3 years because of wokeness, so we're in this thing for the long haul.
I just hope he doesn't ruin another 1st round QB. Maybe he can be the Pete Carroll of the late 90's and prep a good young core to be ready to win again when Stevie B comes back

His rapid ascent is either raw genius or the ego creating mindless stupidity by the Krafts. It’s too early to say either way but I lean towards the latter given RK’s increased meddling as of late.

Vrabel should be head coach BUT
Its not knee jerk hire.
Kraft said 2 years ago that Mayo could be next head coach.

Nothing can be done about it and now he deserves a fair chance of at least 2 years.

This is a strange thread. Let’s see how things go. I mean (1) he hasn’t had one game for us to see what’s what (2) the talent level on the squad is iffy (3) the suggestions about his race speak to a troubling trend (4) mayo was always a smart, attentive player. I’m curious to see if that leads to good things.

Don't care why he was hired or why people *think* he was hired.

He's our coach til he isn't.

Hoping he does well, that we see real progress in his team building philosophy this year.

Nobody here actually knows anything about Mayo.

Its possible that he would have been the NE DC if BB were not the HC. Mayo wasnt going take Stevie Belichicks job. I expect Mayo to make mistakes as NE HC and for him to learn from the experience.

And yet he looks so lifelike. Technology today, just amazing...

Yeah you are pretty much hitting all the nails on the head here. Let’s at least give the guy a few games before making proclamations about his ability. ****, even let him get through ONE game before making any judgments!

I think it’s fine to say he’s a little bit raw, but he’s an extremely young coach with relatively little coaching experience. Many coaches his age didn’t play much and started coaching in their 20s. He was playing the actual game at the highest level and just came back to football in a coaching capacity a few years ago. Of course he’s gonna have a lot of catching up to do but Kraft thinks he’s got the special sauce. It might take time for him to really become fully effective in most areas but as long as the team is playing hard for him and he’s not making several massive blunders or displaying very poor decision-making then I don’t see why we shouldn’t give him that time. If after a two years, he still looks like the same raw fledgling, then it might be time to think about another direction. But talking about it now before he’s even notched one game in his belt is very silly.

I don’t get the Vrabel love. What has he ever won as HC? There was a reason why the Titans let him go they were not good the last couple of years.
Every coach gets let go. Pete Carroll was awful before he was good, Andy Reid was awful before he was good, on and on.

Ron Borges is that you? ... you wake up from hibernation and post this crap.
2 posts today and before that one in December 2003 .... your rock is missing you.

4 straight years with a winning record, one conference championship game, 2 division titles and 3 playoff appearances in 7 years as HC. He did this without a QB. I’m not a fan of Vrabel, but he did a fairly good job in Tennessee. As we know, it’s a nightmare for any coach that doesn’t have a competent QB. In fact, not having a quarterback is like going into a gunfight with knives.

It's one thing to say that you do not believe that he is ready. That's your opinion.

It's another thing to call him a puppet. That's strange.

Or it could be something in between: they saw something special, and he just couldn't translate it into wins.

Just as a reminder, the Patriots used the "successor clause' exception to bypass the Rooney rule. The options were (1) hire Mayo, or (2) do a fully-compliant Rooney rule search.

Andy Reid has always been a solid coach actually. He was really underrated in Philly. He turned around a team that went 5-11 the previous year to 11-5 in his first year, and then went on to just have two losing seasons with them in the next 12 years without a HOF quarterback.
