OT: RIP Johnny Hockey

Well that's ****ing depressing.

Flames fan here and Calgary resident. Crushing news, was one of the most electrifying talents I have ever watched and cheered for but more importantly, a fantastic person and human being. Incredibly sad to hear this, cannot imagine what the family is going through they were so tightknit and he leaves two very young kids and wife.

Will be walking around Calgary with my JG13 jersey today. Thanks for the memories RIP

Beyond awful and completely avoidable by the idiot who was driving drunk.

Oilers fan here up in Edmonton. I also watched a lot of Johnny when he was on the Flames and got to see him at the Saddledome a handful of times. Terrific player.

This is beyond tragic.

Put this oxygen thief down.

One of the game's good guys, he played it the right way.
RIP Johnny Hockey

Awesome family who is now without a dad. So tragic and sad man.

Don’t drink and drive. Amazing that this still has to be said in 2024. I hope the clown who did this is in jail for a long time.

The ****head was passing on the right when the car ahead of him moved over to give the bikes some space. This is so sad and needless. It is another harsh reminder of why I gave up my road bike.
I still ride mine but I choose my roads and times very carefully and ride with a rear radar unit. No guarantees though, and I completely understand your position.

Until we, as a society, decide to severely punish offenders, these things will continue to happen regularly. In this situation, the perp will probably get a harsher-than-usual punishment because of the national attention this case received but don't fool yourselves.... if the victims were regular people, then he'd be looking at probably 3 years or so of jailtime.

The guy has a record, so he's looking at extra time anyway if he violated parole, plus whatever NJ's maximum for vehicular homicide is.
