Mayo Made The Right Call, The Only Call - Brissett over Maye

Just wondering how Zappe could lose the backup 2/3 job to Milton when we have a dude that has a so so injury history starting (Briskets). Say JB goes down…we need to pray to god, allah, heavens gate, Bondeye, and Jah then hope the tea leaves, animal guts and bones all fall properly so Maye doesn’t get hurt. They SHOULD have another in front of Maye if he isn’t ready, but what do I know.

I disagree with the "bad OL, rookie can't play" statement. There is enough history of guys getting the tar beat out of them in rookie years playing behind bad offensive lines. If you want to further that, with what you said about his mechanics - if you play him in a bad spot, you risk his development because he will fallback on bad habits / habits the coaching staff wants to break. But, I didn't say anything about his mechanics because I don't know.

I don't have access to all the information that the team does. Don't even have the information guys covering the team do.

so... it is what it is. Mayo made his decision. and from the outside looking it, it was the right call.
What is the history of guys getting the treat out of them in rookie years?
Can you give a list?

How would a qb solve the theoretical falling back on bad habits by not playing?

based on that, you know more than your average bear.

its a risky position to be in, especially if Mayo & Co want to bring Maye along slowly.

If sow pans out, I could see us trying to move him for a late round pick.
That kind of strategy is exactly why we have such poor depth across the board. You really would rather have Leverett and a 6th as your backup LG/OC/

I'd much rather Strange ride the bench and prepare for 2025. He is able to start at LG and may be able to be trained to be a backup center. I do NOT prefer a late round pick over Strange.

Is your idea really that we have so many quality starters and backups on the OL that we should trade one of them for a late round pick?

The issue has more to do with Cole Strange and his propensity to get injured.

I actually think he's a halfway decent guard. The issue I have is with his ongoing injury. He missed 7 games last year, and we can only hope he will miss less this year.

Maybe he bounces back. Guys do recover and play well afterwards.

Got burned by Wynn and his constant injuries. Just trying to avoid that scenario. If we are trying to rebuild, and we are trying to rebuild, might as well take advantage of opportunities that may present themselves unexpectedly.

While I want see Maye play, not with this line in front of him. Coach made the right call.

I really want to see Maye play and get that valuable experience, but I can't get David Carr out of my head. He set the NFL sack record in 2002 and never developed into his #1 pick pedigree. Whoever is standing behind this line has a real shot to break that record and I'd rather it be anyone other than Maye.

It is, and it’s a position I wouldn’t want to be in lol. Here’s to hoping they have a permanent supply of pepto, Xanax, and whiskey to get them through it…

Starting Brissett is really a challenge to the rest of the offense to be better. This move sends a strong message to the rest of the offense that the rookie is not some sort of magic bean that will solve all of the problems by himself. When Brady was starting out the rest of the team made a commitment to go above and beyond to give the kid a chance to succeed. Let's hope the OL in particular has the same level of ownership to allow the most skilled QB to start.
Your right. Drake isn't an instant Solvent for a porous O line. It all starts up front. I've said personally the best thing for the offense is to establish the run. Against tough fronts like the Jets and 49ers your may only get 3 YPC. But that's OK.. keep the chains moving. If Brissett can just be a game manager stay out of 3rd and long and convert 3rd downs the offense can be ok. When TB12 took over he had a stout O line.. Matt light, woody, to name a few. It's a benefit for Brissett to play well as, well as the lineman. Brissett plays well he will see a lucrative contract from someone.

Wasn't that Texans team he was on an expansion team?

There was a commercial on ESPN for the 2003 draft that showed a clip of David Carr taking a snap and having with no offensive line at all. They edited the lineman right out of the video.

LOL I'm to have to go to YouTube to see if I can find it!

If ******ing the development of the franchise QB because you think the team around him will ruin him is the right call then every off season decision that create that situation was the wrong call.

The starting OL in Tom Brady’s first NFL start.

Rookie LT Matt Light
LG Mike Compton
C Damien Woody who had to move to G in shotgun
RG street FA Joe andruzzi
RT Greg Robinson-Randall

TE Rod Rutledge

WRs Troy Brown, David Patten, Fred Coleman

Tim Couch was another one. Played behind an expansion draft line and the results were what you’d expect.

Re Carr I think he also had a habit of holding on to the ball too long and that didn’t help either.

Don't forget Glenn was here to but on IR then got traded to Dallas.

I think they were going to switch to Maye, and then saw the Commanders slam Brisset to the ground so hard that only by the grace of God he didn't have a separated shoulder or broken back, that they then decided to stick with the original plan.

A situation like that doesn’t get created in one offseason it builds up over years of bad drafts. Thank the previous GM for that.
