Wish some of that $$$$ was spent on a quality LT.

Of course the Pats spent a lot of money. They had to get to the threshold mandated by the collective bargaining agreement, and had a ton of cap space, so they were legally required to spend. The question is, why didn't the Pats spend more considering they still have the most cap space in '24, '25 and '26? Saving all the cap space for one monster FA spend in '25 or '26 is not how successful teams are run.
The CBA mandate reasoning would make sense if the Pats spent that much and then stopped. It’s completely irrelevant now that they’re $70M past the 90% minimum (in the first of three years).

People keep mentioning the "cap floor" but there's no such thing in 2024. It's a 3 year window of spending, and 2024 is the first year of that 3 year period. So pointing to the cap floor as a reason for needing to spend right now doesn't make a lot of sense. You can't really make that argument in good faith until 2026.

Spending money for the sake of spending money is the best way to land your butt at the bottom of the league time and again.. Just ask the Jets.

I was thinking about this today too. A highly drafted rookie QB behind an established veteran... the coach says the veteran is definitely the starter, and the rookie has a lot to learn - at least, in the spring... then as camp wears on, suddenly it's "we'll see who the starter is"... Where have I seen this before? Oh that's right, Cam Newton and Mac Jones just 3 years ago. Cam was "our quarterback" and then suddenly it was a competition when Cam looked bad and Mac looked good (or Cam was just plain unavailable due to COVID), and then it was a toss-up, and then on cut-down day Cam was gone.

I don't think Brissett has any chance of being cut (although I guess it could happen), but the rest of the above seems pretty familiar. If Maye presents a much higher chance of winning games and they aren't too worried that playing now will hamper his development, they'll start him.

I don't think there's any chance of him starting game one. You start him and it goes bad and you have to go to JB, it's a disaster. You start JB and it goes bad and you go to Maye, the bar is far lower.

If he stood out with Cleveland why did they waive him?
A Cooper - J Jeudy - E Moore - *Cedric Tillman* Who I like and David Bell. If Watson is healthy that is going be a nice group.

Wonder if they contemplate putting Onwenu back at RT and playing Robinson at RG. Does the overall unit play improve? It seems like they are happy with Robinson so far. When Strange returns, Sow could go over to RG and Strange takes back LG. Overall, though, LT is still the pain point. I guess you could move Okorafor over to LT but I'm not sure he's measurably better than Lowe has been.

Ross how about trying Cole Strange at LT when he comes back he has the size for it. That has been mentioned before by some here we shouldn't rule out any possibility.

Strange - Sow - Andrews - Robinson - Onwenu
