It's time to move Onwenu back to RT.

It didn't seem to help our tackles.

Very very true and that is why everyone is in a panic.

Wallace's feet were better than I expected, but he is not ready for NFL speed. Will he develop? I don't know but I hope so. To me, Wallace's feet looked fast enough to be to play RT. Time will tell.

Either way Okorafor looked bad, leaving us with no LT for another year. Glad we have so many up and coming WRs, Boutte, Thornton, Douglas, Baker, and Polk, and no LT.

Everyone wants to write off Lowe at LT, and I get it, but I haven’t really seen much bad press about him. I’ve only really seen good press about him doing better than expected. I also don’t recall him doing particularly poorly in the preseason game, albeit against reserve players on a bad team.

I will be interested to see how things hold up in joint practices against Philly. That’s the true test.

What about Calvin Anderson?

He was last year's plan. Maybe it's taking him a while to get back.

One of the reporters wrote recently that Lowe’s overall level of play has improved despite the occasional ugly play. That isn’t conducive to being accurately evaluated by the angry fans that rate OL by their worst plays rather than their whole body of work.

I am only going by the sports reporters, and they all say the Lowe and Anderson look worse than Okorafor, if that is even possible.

So far it looks like the buy in to Scott Peters is there…we need to have patience. BB and Scar’s OL would start gelling in October and here we are in August *****ing about the new regime and what are essentially growing pains…*in yodaspeek* Need, we must have, yes, patience grasshoppas!!

Yes, looks good for the guards. Has had no influence on the tackles and no tackles are quoted in that puff piece. No-one is concerned about the guards.

I know OL is a bit of a mess.
I'd still suggest starting with Sow - Andrews - Onwenu in the middle is the best way to try to keep some stability and continuity on that unit. Reason 1 - We have some experience at Tackle to work with (Anderson, Okra, Lowe) and it seems Wallace is working into a possible answer at LT. I don't think putting a rookie at RG is better than having a serviceable vet at RT.
Reason 2 - Trading for a legit LT could still be possible, without re-shuffling the whole line again.
Playing Lowe meaningful snaps at OT would be cruel and unusual punishment….the victims being the QBs.

If Lowe starts at LT Zappe will make the team because we will need 4 QB's, at least. They may need at least 2 on the practice squad as well.

He was the WORST lineman on the field in the exhibition game, and Lowe was bad.

Anderson missed almost a full season. He was a legitimate NFL swing tackle before this. Perhaps Anderson is working some of the rust off.

Lowe is a JAG. He was one of the worst tackles I've seen play in the NFL. It's a joke he is lining up with the ones. Lowe is a practice squad player.

Onwenu imo is an average RT and a very good RG
I am fine with giving Wallace, Chuks and Anderson every chance this training cam, and have optimism with Zuri Henry at OT as well.
their will be 1 & 2 TE sets for sure.
CHuks and Anderson are experienced OT's. not saying they are great, but with improved scheme, faster developing plays and a better run/screen game, they can be more than competent.

No it’s not time to move Onwenu to tackle. The 1st regular season game isn’t until about a month from now. Maybe they trade for a tackle, sign one when teams cut to get to 53 or Chuks or Anderson look like starters at LT. It’s way to early for Onwenu to RT talk.
There's no early or late for talking about it, it's been an ongoing topic for years. And it will continue to be talked about as long as A) He's playing RG, and B) the RT spot is in shambles.

If someone steps up and adequately mans the RT spot then the complaints about keeping Onwenu at G will stop.

You are correct. I could have worded the last sentence better. Should have read “It’s too early for the Patriots to move Onwenu permanently to RT for 2024”.

At the end of the day I think we can all agree we need to draft more guards.

Onwenu signed a 3 year deal that feels a lot like a 2 year deal and then either an extension or a release. He's got a $25M cap number in 2026 (year 3) and we can save $17.5M of that with trading or releasing him. If Robinson looks good my guess would be they release him then, use the money towards extending Sow who will be extension eligible at that point, and they put Robinson in at RG. I don't think Onwenu is worth big money as he's probably a bit below the tier of RG that makes sense to spend a ton on. I think they re-signed him because the existing roster and the FA market were both so barren that keeping one proven quality OL made sense even if costly. I don't believe he'll see the 3rd year of that deal unless our roster continues to suck with no one worth paying, no good FAs want to come here for another 2 offseasons, and/or the developmental OL guys continue to suck. My hope/expectation is that come 2026, we're starting Sow at LG and Robinson at RG and that we feel good about that and the money is being spent on other positions.

But that's the long-term outlook. For this year, it seems Onwenu is a better scheme fit at RG. They have a lot of developmental OT players and I think in an ideal world they'd love for some of them to emerge as quality roster options. I'm not even saying starters. I think they'd chalk it up as a win if they could find one starting RT, a quality swing tackle and then a 4th guy who's worth keeping as the 9th OL on the roster. I think they want to give those guys every chance to play themselves into those roles. If they all flop miserably, then they can move Onwenu out there to stop the bleeding for a year.

Don't love Lowe starting....hopefully he can surprise us all. Tackle probably will be the number one need in the draft.

LT is a major concern, but The RT spot is not in shambles. Oko is a proven NFL RT. The only reason he's not the definitive choice there yet is that they may need him to play LT, assuming there's confidence in Wallace at RT.

Lowe didn't look good last year at LT, and now he's learning a new system under a new OL coach so it's early to be judging him negatively. I did feel he showed some promise as a pass blocker, more so than as a run blocker.

There is not a single doubt in my mind that we have someone better than Vederian Lowe to put at LT. It's gotta be Okorafor in my opinion. Wallace is improving everyday and could be serviceable at RT and Anderson looked like he could be a viable starting RT as well.
