He's been a steady performer and really worked himself into one of the better wrs in the league. Teams give him wr1 treatment with their best cb. SF uses him as a true #1 (x/outside - one of the more productive wrs on 1st, 2nd & 3rd down) I've seen him referred to as a slot or a slot if he was in SF. He wins against some of the best cb in the league and wins outside against all different types of coverage. He's not a product of that system just bc he excels in it. It certainly helps, it helps playing with great players but he's done everything you can to stand out. He's hardly "schemed" open or "fed" touches as a player. Shanahan is great at what he does but so are the guys that actually produce and execute.

Multiple people have brought up the fact that he runs a 4.5. What did Adams, Kupp or Brown run? How about Antonio Brown? Mike Evans or Hopkins? Aiyuk ran a 4.5 hurt, with a core injury fwiw.
That 4.5 hasn't hurt him so far ...
"He caught 14 of 20 passes thrown both outside the numbers and 15-plus air yards last season, the best rate (70%) of any player in the last four seasons (min. 20 targets)" - cbs sports ... Y/R 17.9 (2nd in the league)

Makes the most of his targets. He's been one of if not the most efficient wr over the past 2 years. Almost 1400 yards/7 on 105 targets last year.

He's a plus blocker "no block no rock in that system

Some are saying it's "too soon?" We have a rookie QB that will be playing very very soon. We all know that's the biggest cheat code you can have. Some of us are aware of the fact that wrs have become more important. Surrounding your rookie qb and young wr corp with an established vet isn't far fetched. It's not like "wooah where is this move coming from?" Aiyuk is 26, in/entering his prime. It makes perfect sense.

You want to maximize Maye at his age not "see what he can do" before making an investment. The investment has already been made ... in Maye. I'm not worried about a wr contract. I'm worried about the guy that'll have the biggest effect on the franchise over the next 5 years. You can recover from a bad contract. See you in 2030 if we F up Maye.

*** SF won't get two very good players and a 1st. That won't happen. I believe Aiyuk is obviously worth a 1st but not lottery pick. Like we'll most likely have. I would give up our 2nd + 4th maybe a future 6th. That equals out to a 1st in the 20's where he was drafted. Considering his payment I think thats fair. I'd give up KB and take off the 4th***

The "Pats being used as leverage" narrative is dumb. 49ers reportedly agreed to the parameters of a trade and let Aiyuk decide. Then they said "we'll pay you like a top 5 wr if you come to the Pats". If he doesn't want to come then he's obviously not gonna agree to a contract. Highly doubt Steelers are gonna offer top 5 wr money

Yeah on the Steelers end it wouldnt make much sense to include pickens in a deal. Right now they don’t have much beyond wr1 and that would still be an issue there after giving up all the cash for aiyuk.

The only thing that would really make sense for pitt is sending a 1st and thats too much for aiyuk. If they can somehow get sf to send him for a 2 + a lower rd pick that would be alright for them but sf would be foolish to do that over our offer regardless of aiyuks wishes.
Pickens could be a ticking time bomb. After this year, they have to commit to him.

No, we don't know anything about contract talks. Several teams agreed with the 49ers on trade compensation, not with Aiyuk on contract details. I'm not surprised it is taking a long time, because the contract agreement is by far the most complicated part of all this.
We do know from reports that before the draft 49ers believed Aiyuk would not get the 30 million or so he wanted from them from any other team when he asked to be traded and they agreed to let him see if other teams would pay him what he wanted. 5 teams agreed but 49ers did not accept any of the trade offers.

I doubt that the number has changed much.

So much for going all in. This team is in a bad way. It's gonna be a rough couple years before we gotta fire everyone again.

Wonderful

2024 Super Bowl - KC vs. SF, Purdy for SF on rookie deal
2023 SB - KC vs. PHI, Hurts for PHI on rookie deal
2022 SB - LAR vs. CIN, Burrow for CINC on rookie deal
2021 SB: TB/KC, Mahomes rookie deal
2020 SB: SF/KC, Mahomes rookie deal
2019 SB: NE/LAR, Goff rookie deal
2018 SB: NE/PHI, Foles on a backup contract after taking over for Wentz on rookie deal
2017 SB: NE/ATL, Brady and Ryan on vet extensions
2016 SB: DEN/CAR, Cam on rookie deal
2015 SB: NE/SEA, Wilson on rookie deal
2014 SB: DEN/SEA, Wilson on rookie deal
2013 SB: BAL/SF, Kaepernick on rookie deal

10/12 Super Bowls have featured a QB on a rookie deal. If Maye is ever going to lead us back to the Super Bowl the best chance of it is being in the next 5 years. I don't buy the idea that it's "too early" to go for a #1 WR. It's all about maximizing talent during that window. Set him up as best you can to grow into success early.

That doesn't mean do something stupid like give up our 1st next year. But if you can get him for our 2nd, Bourne and maybe another 3rd or 4th rounder whatever, I think it'd be just as stupid not to explore it.

I know we still need a LT, but we'll still have all of our future 1sts if we get Aiyuk without giving one up and we'll still have tons of cap space. We'll still project to be bad next year and pick pretty high. Trading for Aiyuk is not "instead of" getting a LT. You still have resources for that (and more).

I like what I've read about Polk/Baker/Douglas. Maybe they can be a great WR trio someday. If they're a great 1/2/3 then they'd be an even better 2/3/4. Maybe one of them ends up better than Aiyuk? Even better!!! More good WRs is better, not worse.
Welcome to the Homer's club sir!

It's New England so the majority are negative and are only happy when they are miserable. Hence the idiotic logic that disagrees with facts. It's in our blood.

That sucks....so ie...Aiyuk said no thanks.
Sounds like that is what happened.

Ah well would have been nice but not the end of the world without him. I didn’t expect it anyway.

Oh well. Glad we can move on now

I'm not particularly upset about this news but I find it off putting that the Patriots "took" them self out.

I don't believe them at all.

Great news to end the day.. glad that we did not enter the sweepstakes. Next year we will be like Texans should maye blossom towards end of season.

Now all we need is draft pick 1 next year that we trade down for 4 more picks and get our OT of future and DE of future.

Would’ve loved him here. But $30 mill for the dude would’ve been a very risky contract.

We really need to start hitting in the draft at the position. Can’t avoid it any longer.

I like that we aren’t making this move.
We need picks for O line gotta build a wall around Maye.
I like the way the young WRs have all been performing.
Could we still see Bourne traded to San Fran since they are losing Aiyuk?

Ahh. I'm touched.

Never forget they fired the best coach of all time just to spend all their cap on the players he drafted.

I see right through the Krafts.
You should be.

I like your retort with the exception of the Kraft's. It's not carte blanche but no Kraft's no Patriots.

Side note: anyone else having weird issues with responding on the site via their phone?

Can't trade away our most proven receiver unless we're getting another receiver back.

Damn that sucks he didn’t wanna be here, oh well.
