Good point.Cooper is also expensive, which the Niners want to avoid
In terms of production it’s not even close, and Shanahan has already let Bourne walk once, and that was for next to nothing.
Why would they prioritize Deebo over Aiyuk… short answer, Deebo is the bigger matchup nightmare for opponents.
If he was the transcendent player people here are suggesting he was he would already be signed. The Vikings prioritized Justin Jefferson over their QB.
Calvin Ridley is better than Aiyuk and they would not have had to trade a draft pick for him.
Would have been better to overpay for Ridley
JC Jackson was statistically better than Stephon Gilmore, was he the better player?Aiyuk have been statistically better the last two years where do you find your info Wozzy??
Thar isnt in a vacuum though. Why has he been better? Is he being single covered while Samuel is being doubled?Aiyuk have been statistically better the last two years where do you find your info Wozzy??
It's' not that impressive when you think about the Age of them of them Diggs- Cooper and Goodwin are all getting Older. In fairness, the WR free agent list for 2025 is quite impressive with Lamb, Aiyuk, Godwin, Diggs, and Cooper on the list to name a few. But it is ridiculous to believe any or at least most of them will be available come free agency next year. If the Pats don't trade for Aiyuk, Cleveland likely will and that takes both Aiyuk and Cooper off the board.
But yes, to get a top WR these days, and Aiyuk is a top WR, you are most likely have to trade for him or get lucky in the draft. And the Pats have to use their first round pick next year on a LT. They have no choice. So the best they can do is trade late into the first to draft a top WR.
I am not sold on an Aiyuk trade, but I am not opposed to it. It really is what the Pats have to give up. If it is just a second, Bourne, and a conditional late round pick; I am ok with that. The contract is irrelevant.
Ridley has personal issues that would have made him a bad option to build around.
Aiyuk is at least consistent and reliable.
Watch Aiyuk's tape he just gets open short - intermediate and deep occasionally nice all around player. He's not a mystery in the NFL anymore.Thar isnt in a vacuum though. Why has he been better? Is he being single covered while Samuel is being doubled?
Free agency is fine for supplementing or getting a bridge guy at various positions but I think we all know there is no chance Lamb and Aiyuk end up on the open market. Free agency is for guys who are in the ballpark or 30 and are going to get one last pay day. The formula for success for a young QB seems to be to have a top flight receiver already in place or to acquire on through a high draft pick or via trade. In fairness, the WR free agent list for 2025 is quite impressive with Lamb, Aiyuk, Godwin, Diggs, and Cooper on the list to name a few. He gets hurt, he plays like a RB playing receiver. On a per play basis he is still dangerous.Deebo of two years ago maybe. I think Deebo isn't long for the NFL. His play style and use doesn't bode well for a long term productive career. And let's face it. He is turning into a one year wonder. He has more yards in 2021 than 2022 and 2023 combined.
I hope it’s been acknowledged that Aiyuk controls his destiny. He has a no trade clause and it’s rumored he doesn’t want to go to NE.
We know that Pats overall Defense made him look good.JC Jackson was statistically better than Stephon Gilmore, was he the better player?
Kittle is slowing down hitting that cliff he was a very good TE though but probably just Good now.He gets hurt, he plays like a RB playing receiver. On a per play basis he is still dangerous.
Teams have to account for him, Kittle, have to account for CMC and whether he is going to run or flex outside and play WR. Nobody is changing their gameplan for Aiyuk. He’s not that dynamic or that great an athlete. He’s wildly overrated…
That changes every year, new players emerge unexpectedly… both in the draft and free agency.
Where did you hear he has a no trade clause? Isn't he on a standard rookie deal?I hope it’s been acknowledged that Aiyuk controls his destiny. He has a no trade clause and it’s rumored he doesn’t want to go to NE.
