saving $50m is the obvious benefit.Only you could make paying 30 million in dead cap sound delicious. You a used car salesman?

Laughable… they had one of the best DT’s in football but didn’t want him, and it had nothing to do with the 4 year 110 million contract Wilkins just signed or the Dolphins scraping together nickels in the couch cushions to pay Tua the largest contract in team history… sounds legit.no one said Wilkins was not great
some teams believe paying a DT that much money is not worth the value.
thats a football decision
sorry
they decided paying Hill, Tua, Waddle, Chubb, Ramsey was more important than paying WilkinsLaughable… they had one of the best DT’s in football but didn’t want him, and it had nothing to do with the 4 year 110 million contract Wilkins just signed or the Dolphins scraping together nickels in the couch cushions to pay Tua the largest contract in team history… sounds legit.
It’s the worst take since Dewey Defeats Truman.saving $50m is the obvious benefit.
Why not pay them all… the cap is crap?they decided paying Hill, Tua, Waddle, Chubb, Ramsey was more important than paying Wilkins
Cap isn't crap but it is flexible. Teams can get creative and spread money out far into the future as long as the owner is willing to spend the cash. Why not pay them all… the cap is crap?
The cap on average goes up roughly 4-5% in seasons where there isn't a large TV or gambling deal, these deals traditionally have lasted a decade or more in the past. The cap actually went down in the covid year, it moves both ways... though rarely. Teams can push money into the future, but teams can also outpace the cap and get into trouble borrowing.Cap isn't crap but it is flexible. The cap being flexible doesn't mean every player can be kept, but other teams have kept players the Pats would have let walked.
Not stating that's negative or positive but it has happened many times. Like with Seymour, Welker, Mankins, Brady, Law and Thuney.
Wasn't commenting on whether those decisions were good or bad. There were very few bad roster decisions by Belicheck from 2001 to 2018. Bad drafts yes, but few bad roster moves. The cap on average goes up roughly 4-5% in seasons where there isn't a large TV or gambling deal, these deals traditionally have lasted a decade or more in the past. The cap is flexible to a degree, teams need to look at the cap in a 3-4 year snapshot rather than year by year like fans do. This is why the poster here bemoaning them not spending every cent of cap space is confused. They also need to adjust depending on whether their QB is still on a rookie deal, or among the highest paid players in the league. When you have one player taking up 20-25% of your entire salary cap annually... it's not always an easy workaround. Especially when you have other players on your team that want to reset the market at their positions.
It's not coincidence the dynasty won all their rings at the bookends of Tom's career. The teams were better and deeper when the QB position counted substantially less against the cap because there was more money to go round.
The dynasty teams were really smart about letting go when a player got too old or expensive. They didn't trade for a player only to pay him a top of the market deal. They would pay a near top of the market deal, but wouldn't reset the entire market. Smart.
Aiyuk had a non- contractual no trade, is how they worded itIf true this is a disgusting miss for NE.
Watson's suspension cost him '21 and I think part of '22. Got hurt a chunk of '23. You couldn't tell the difference when he's been on or off the field though. He's played at sub-jag level for two seasons and is the reason they moved on from AVP.Wasn't he suspended for one of those seasons?? Not that I'm nitpicking or anything.
You've got to break a few eggs to make an omelette.Wasn't commenting on whether those decisions were good or bad. There were very few bad roster decisions by Belicheck from 2001 to 2018. Bad drafts yes, but few bad roster moves.
I see it as him doing NE a favor. I like what I'm hearing from both WR's which is something we haven't heard regarding a WR since 2002 (Deion Branch)! I like Aiyuk, but I'm not a fan paying $30M when the QB situation is a question mark, OL stinks and the offensives staff is far inferior to Shanahan. I'd rather see what the trio in Polk, Baker and Douglas (maybe even Thornton) can do and bet on Aiyuk becoming an UFA in 2025 (I don't think the 49ers will be able to tag him).If true this is a disgusting miss for NE.
If Wilkins was a core piece on the defense, you don't let him walk. Paying Chubb was a massive mistake.they decided paying Hill, Tua, Waddle, Chubb, Ramsey was more important than paying Wilkins
There were more bad roster moves than many realize. Some of his worst moves where during the heart of the 1st dynasty. The Chiefs are doing the exact opposite and keeping the band together to go get that 3 peat. If Tom didn't become superhuman and the rules favoring QB's/WR's, the Pats would've been stuck at 3.Wasn't commenting on whether those decisions were good or bad. I am good with it but I doubt the 9ers will be.Here's what interests me in this Aiyuk trade story:
"Possible destinations include the Steelers, Commanders, Browns, and Patriots. The challenge will be striking a deal that gives the 49ers value in 2024, and not just one or more draft picks for 2025."
Report: 49ers are talking to multiple teams about possible Brandon Aiyuk trade
Could receiver end up with a new team?www.nbcsports.com
So a 2025 2nd, JJSS and a 2026 5th for Aiyuk? Who's good with that?
Aiyuk if he is smart should not want to come to Patriots
Niners would be wise to take Cooper and draft picks from Browns
Aiyuk will not make a difference for Pats
I read they want Bourne or Polk id think about Judon and a third.I am good with it but I doubt the 9ers will be.
Note the word "spent." LAC wound up not spending the full contract amount on Jackson, therefor they got a cap "saving". The statement "for every dollar SPENT, a dollar of salary cap has to be accounted for" is correct.Jackson's deal was for $82.5 m
the LAC paid his $28m
they saved over $50m on his deal.
that's why the cap is crap
yes you already said "For every dollar spent, a dollar of salary cap has to be accounted for."
which of course is incorrect
we agreed on this. you will not discuss anything cap related as it goes completely over your head.
