It’s still just July. The regular season doesn’t start till September. I’d be disappointed if the coaches were not moving players around at all positions this time of year.

Being "just July" ignores Lazar's point. I agree with Lazar. It is not necessary to move veterans around, there is so much tape to look at, you don't need to see it in-person in 2024 to confirm the tape.

I believe you would like to see it. But Lazar's point is that is not important for professional football coaches where there is tape. They are who they are. It would be better to let the line learn the new blocking schemes, how to block with the guy next to them, and skills specific to their position. If the 5 OLmen are in sync, it will be easier to adjust when one gets hurt and gets subbed out.

They weren’t implementing a new offensive scheme with a new coordinator and qb in the past. And I still don’t think I remember a season where the offense dominated out of the gate.

Patricia(new coach), new scheme, and Mac as a 2nd year QB. SVP (new coach,), new scheme, and Brissett has a lot more experience than Mac had. Patricia had a tough hill to climb, and so does SVP.

I think that 3/$39 with $25m guaranteed wouldn't be a bad thing.

One of the interesting things listening to Pats Unfiltered was the talk about the mixing and matching of the OL. Lazar was critical of the move, saying how almost all of the OL have pro tape and the team knows who they are and what position they can play by this point. That Wallace is the wildcard as a rookie, but otherwise, the line could really use some stability and the chance for them to gel.

They'll have 4 weeks in august to Gel. This idea that they have tape is bunk considering that the blocking concepts have changed somewhat with AVP's Outside Zone scheme.

I think it's interesting that Lowe hasn't gotten ANY snaps at his best position, LT. Neither has Anderson, who was at RT on day 1.

Tape only matters if they are playing the same technique. If the blocking scheme is different, you need to see how they perform.

Not to mention, you never know what chemistry occurs with players. Getting them used to one another isn't a bad thing. Seeing how they click with one another isn't a bad thing,

It seems like they've locked in Chuks for starting LT, at least to start camp. And that they really want to find out who is going to be the starting RT.

While it is true that continuity is important for an OL, mixing and matching during the regular season is only an injury away. Trying different configurations during training camp can pay dividends later when injuries start to disrupt who is playing.

I think the fact that the offensive scheme, offensive line concepts, OC, OL Coach, and all but the 4th string QB are new, and are going against a defense with extremely high continuity in both scheme and personnel, is getting forgotten. Don't want to make excuses but it would be more concerning if the offense was kicking the defense's ass.

As you say, the article is not really helpful. Given the number of new faces, how does he know who is a starter and who is a backup? If they don't mix and match now, how are they going to figure out the best lineup?

I think the argument is that tape shows you Anderson has never been a starter even before his bout of Malaria. They mentioned that the rookie has no tape.

I think the main thrust of the argument (one that I found interesting and not necessarily one I completely agree with) is that both the coaching staff and personnel department should have a better handle on who plays best where well before camp. That they’re mixing them all up here suggests that they don’t and that’s a dangerous place to be heading toward the season.

And lastly, they were discussing this, not making hot takes or declaring the season over. They seemed skeptical and hoped the team would have the line assignments squared by joint practices.

I think this situation will clear up once the pads come on and these guys can actually hit somebody. We’ll have a better idea of who the OL starters will be in 2-3 weeks. Right now they’re just playing flag football.

I feel confident that the left side of the line is already locked down with Okafor, Sow, and Andrews. The unknown is if Onwenu will line up as the starting RG or RT and who will be the 5th starter depending on where Onwenu ends up.
