He has to take it, nothing is given.
I think most of us believe he will. Nothing against Brissett he's a fine back up veteran for us.. but Drake is the future. I don't think it will take mayo long to realize who's the better QB.

If Maye performs better, shows an aptitude for the pro game, they'll hand him the starting job. Talent isn't enough... you actually have to be a better QB.

I guess that for you, LT is not relevant.

You would be fine starting Maye with Lowe as our LT.

Lowe should be fired immediately, he should have been fired last year.

What about Anderson, Okorafor, Wallace, Henry and Wheatley... they have quite a few chances to get it right or at least patchwork until next offseason?

If it looks really bad in preseason play, they could actually spring for one of the older guys like Donovan Smith or David Bakthari... as bad as this sounds.

Reiff stole money last season, I don't know what Bill was expecting from a 35 year old lineman anyway.. I think chuks will be the guy at LT.. however as coach said today the best 5 Will play!

Last year was a disaster, it’s better we put it behind us.

Chuks might become a bandaid that works until next offseason, that’s my best case scenario for him.

The better scenario is Anderson, Wallace and Zuri Henry take two starting positions.

I forgot about Henry and Anderson.. tells you how bad the situation is... last season didn't help that Trent quit the NFL again. Chuks is the guy with really any experience at the spot?

Trent was good for 1/3 of the season, he was one of the highest rated tackles in the NFL. When it was clear the offense sucked royally, he got dinged up and he wasn’t going to hit his incentives he became disgruntled. The Bengals had better be aware of this, he’s their problem now.

Anderson, Wallace and Henry have talent… let’s hope they emerge.

You indicated that Maye should start if Maye is the better QB, he should start.

I have said many time that when Maye should start depends much more on the ability of the LT than on Maye himself. I believe that Maye is ready NOW to start opposite an OL with a solid LT.

You seem to be willing for Maye to play behind potential PS players Wheatley and Henry.

I suppose that Wallace could be our LT; I doubt that very much.

IMO, LT is a competition among Okorafor, Anderson and Lowe, with the hope that Lowe doesn't make the 53 and the other two are LT and swing OT. If Okorafor and Anderson BOTH don't work out, then Wallace needs to be the swing OT and Onwenu is back at RT.

If the offensive line is a complete disaster I could envision them sitting Maye regardless. A lot would have to go wrong for that to happen.

They presumably have a great interior with Andrews, Onwenu and Sow, they can probably cobble together two tackles. They would need total failure at tackle and some interior starters to get hurt for total calamity… I’m not going to assume that is a given. If everyone stays healthy and the coaches do a good job the line should be sufficient to support a rookie starter… he has to prove he deserves the job first.

Problem is he was paid for a full season but only showed up whenever he felt like it.

There was a lot of problems last year, I’ve moved on. The 2024 season has started.
Same here. We can put last season away by saying the best players will play, coach has already made that clear, the best players will play. The most fair and accurate than a coach can say and do. I'm really rooting for watchable offensive football from this team this season.

Perhaps and perhaps not.

Let us accept your belief (and my hope) that Onwenu will be playing RG, so that the interior will be just fine (starters and backups).

After all, the interior is only solid if Onwenu is at RG. Otherwise, we need one of the other OG's to step up.
==============
TACKLES
Anderson
Okorafor
Wallace

We need all THREE to be contrinutors. our OT rotation. Otherwise, we are counting on Onwenu, or on wanna-be's or never-will-be's.
================
BOTTOM LINE
There are two situations where we will have a good OL.

1) Okorafor, Anderson and Wheatley are ALL ready to be part of the OT rotation.
2) Onwenu is playing RT with one of the backup OG's starting at RG: Leverett, Andrews, Robinson, or Mafi. This isn't a disaster.

Other situations are truly longshots, like counting on any of these to start or be one of the OT rotation: Jordan, Henry, or Wheatley or Lowe.

Love Mayo's response when asked about the Starter @ QB. He said Biscuit is the listed starter but if Maye day brings it well...

If Onwenu is at RT instead of guard they still have three really good linemen and only need to fill two spots. The “problem” doesn’t change much.

I feel better about interior linemen like Mafi and Jake entering year two than I do about rookies Wallace, Henry or Robinson contributing. A player in year two should be stronger and more experienced than the year prior. Anderson can play either tackle spot or guard if he’s healthy, assuming he is provides ultimate flexibility.

Like I said, they should be able to cobble together a line, they can also outbid other teams after cutdown day for good vets who get let go for cap reasons. Having the most cap space now and being third in the waiver wire line is a positive.
