When reports came out that the Commanders GM loved Maye, I hadn't looked at Daniels tape yet. After being wowed by Maye, and underwhelmed by Wiliams I started looking at Daniels. I'm not too worried about his size in terms of injury since the statistics historically don't show any correlation. Also, he's an elite runner and that ability generally translates to the NFL. However...
Watching video of every play from the 1 good season he had, over and over again I was shocked how bad he was. Didn't see wide open guys all the time, had 1 throw all year in a tight window over the middle because he fears his own weak arm strength, I couldn't believe how bad he looked but I tried to talk myself into him since Pats were going to take him and figure the elite running will be fun to watch but I couldn't get over the fact he can't process or throw, kind of important for a QB. Yet many scouts and draft guru's somehow have this guy worthy of a first round pick, I disagree 100% even as I suspect he has a potentially really good year 1.
I see 2 scenarios with Daniels
1: Mac Jones style career, excellent year 1 but with highlight reel runs, then a total bust as teams figure out he can't process or throw.
2: A total bust as team figure out right away that he can't process or throw
The proof will be in the play, but Maye is pretty much the perfect QB prospect, when you only take the things proven to translate, he checks almost every box. If you had to build a QB prospect for the NFL you would build Drake Maye with bigger hand size and slightly less Pressure to sack ratio though he is under the "bad" threshold by a little bit. That's it, Otherwise, he checks EVERY SINGLE BOX!
