little bit of off season fluff... this video has put together the "Mt Rushmore" for every team in the NFL...

The Pats who made the list

Tom Brady - yup
John Hannah - yup
Rob Gronkowski - probably the most accomplished pass catcher in Pats history... Mt Rushmore worthy?
Ty Law - so Law is the best defensive player in NE history? hmmm...

Other guys who should be considered - maybe Gino? Colclough? Tippett? Bru? Big Sey? Steamer? Whigham (?yeah? fight me)... Welker? Haynes? Clayborn?

Just in case you don't know Jim Colclough, he played wr/fl from '60-'68... and is still in the Top ten in yards & td receptions, top 15 in receptions in team history...

I don't mean any disrespect to Jimmy Colclough but it is inappropriate to consider him at that level. He was a good Patriot. I saw many of his games. He was at a different level. If we want someone closer to great but still falling short, then consider Jim Nance, Julius Adams, Stanley Morgan, Russ Francis, Steve Grogan. Even among that group, the only one to come close is Stanley Morgan.

Pretty good list. I'd lean toward Tippett since the O is already represented by Brady. I'd also give a sentimental nod to Holovak - the original Ned Flanders. He turned out some pretty good teams that kept a franchise that could have gone up in smoke interesting enough that I'm still following them mumblemumble years later.

I get it, and you are basically right... consider it a thought exercise... adding a name of a great Patriot player from the early days to get people to considered players outside the norm, to push against the recency bias that crops up in things like this...

That doesn't mean that the recent players aren't worthy of the honor... But maybe it will get people to look beyond 2001 and consider some older players

Very shocked to see ty law only got 15% of the vote. John Hannah an absolute stud! In his own right. But..
However ty law... sorry HOF ty law.. should garner more respect IMO..

4th is Law.. hands down... sorry I mispoke.. HOF'mer ty law.. who had the rules changed becuase of him. You know your a bad MF.. at your position when the rules get changed becuase of you.

BB for coaching and putting the staff/team together.
Brady for becoming Brady.
Gronk was the most important draft pick in the 2010's. Had he not been drafted, I don't think they win another Super Bowl and Tom leaves the team by 2016.
Ty Law. I love McGinest, but Law gets the edge.

However, I'd argue Richard Seymour should be considered. Like Gronk, had Bill drafted David Terrell and not Seymour, they don't win the Super Bowl, and may not have even made the playoffs in 2001. The defense ran through him. Aside from Brady, he was the most important draft pick in that ignited the 1st dynasty.

zero issues with the guys you chose... they are worthy of the honor...

I would just add - a majority of the old games from the 70's, 80's & 90's are out there and you can see some of the older guys play... it's worth watching guys like Mike Haynes, Raymond Clayborn, John Hannah, Steve Nelson, Stanley Morgan, Andre Tippett play...

Its a bit harder to find the Boston Patriots stuff - you gotta dig for the AFL games / clips from the 60's but its worth it... Watching guys like Tommy Addison, Jim Colclough, Gino Cappelletti, Bob Dee, Jim Lee Hunt, Chuck Shonta etc really gives you a different perspective on the history of the team...

I'm done proselytizing now, lol...

Same could be Saif for earnie adams... and Alex Guerrero... TB12 said himself if not for Guerrero he would have retired in his early 30s..

For myself I was a kid when Haynes played.. however from what I know absolutely a great player in own right.. however I lean to law because you know your a Bad MF.. when the rules get changed due to you!

Those were obvious. It was too close between Bruschi, Gronk, Law, and Tippett for me. Also considered were Welker and Cappelletti. I see I'm a little alone out here on Bruschi, but he was arguably the heart and soul of that early dynasty D and he never played for another team. So he has Super Bowls over Tippett and "team loyalty" over Gronk and Law. Those could be silly reasons, but it was all I could figure for tiebreakers.
