Things I will miss about BB

It's time to move on and I'm glad it's a former Patriot player who's replacing him..

LOL. How did that work out with Brady, Harry, Butler’s benching….the list goes on and on?

1. Death
2. Taxes
3. Roger being a *****
4. Patsfans.com members being unable to move on.

In my post I was inquiring if such a thread existed, nothing more. However, since you brought it up, I don't like his voluble, cheerleader style, but time will tell if it works for him. Coaches have succeeded with that style, so who knows? I think Tony Robbins has more of an edge than Coach Mayo.
Mayo is like Mike Tomlin another HOF HC.

Todays players need freedom and not discipline.

Absolutely agree. For some reason fans on here continue to dismiss this. I'll keep saying to those that don't want to acknowledge mayo. The guys a " bill" guy. Drafted by him, and coached under him. Difference is he's not trying to be bill like Mc Daniels, judge, Matt, mangini.

I will miss Bill's vast knowledge of the game. There really isn't another coach out there who has seen pretty much everything that Bill has. There really isn't too many situations that Bill would not have seen before during a game.

I will also miss his defensive game planning ability. The way Bill was able to either take away the other team's best option or let that best option get his numbers while taking away the rest of their offense. It was pretty rare when they would let one guy beat us pretty much singlehanded.

His attention to detail is another big loss. The situations and scenarios he would have the team practice like the Malcom Butler play. In the 3 Games to Glory doc they have practice footage of the exact play the Seahawks ran and how Butler got beat on it. Butler talked about recognizing that play from practice and having to fight through the traffic to make a play on the ball and that preparation won them a Super Bowl.
Mayo has all that wealth of knowledge from his time as a player and position coach. It will be on him to utilize all that he knows from Bill, and utilize his own coaching methods as his HC career goes on. We know that no one is ever replacing bill or TB12.. when bill has had the players on defense he was a mastermind. Mayo has the players on defense I am curious to see how he employs those guys. I'm forever grateful to bill ,but am fully embracing Mayo as well.

There's alot of NFL coaches that don't have the HC career of a mike tomlin... try to use another comparison..

Mayo seems pretty humble overall, from the ability to admit to media he is learning, and needs guidance from other more experienced coaches. That should be good, but could also backfire pretty quickly.
I've made early mention of his overly friendly vibe - could also lose impact once they start to lose.
RKK made a gamble to copy HOU. Hire young, black, ex-player, LB coach that people like and draft top round QB - hope to win.

Ryan's is alot like mayo in character and coaching experience... the key to success is Drake.. CJ is tied to Ryan's as, Drake is tied to mayo.. if Drake in wich i feel he is.. is the guy then Mayo's tenure will go much more fluidly.

Those don’t seem like gambles to me…at all. A gamble might be parting ways with the greatest HC in NFL history…but it was time anyway.

Exactly... it's called making a decision that you feel is best for your franchise... when bill was hired RK took alot of criticism..

I miss bill and Brady together.. I don't miss the last few seasons.. if I'm being honest..
I don't miss the last few seasons either. Why would anyone?
Questions for another day/year but the debates aren't over results of the past few seasons questions are about who was more responsible (which I hate) and if Bill could have been the best option for fixing it still.

And I don't feel like debating either. We've beat this stuff to death already and until we see what Mayo does and/or what Bill does if he comes back there is nothing new to discuss.

Highly agree with you! I guess some fans are seemingly ignorant to the last few seasons.. and just focusing on the winning. You have to weigh the totality of a coaching career when you tally it all up. But to your point I don't want to debate or rehash.. mayo got all the support and a golden opportunity with a talented young QB.. a excellent defense and some nice young guys at WR.. I'm root for success.. this organization is about winning... the sooner we get back to that the better overall.

Hard to put faith in anyone who would draft Jordan Richards in the 2nd round. That was inexplicable at the time and got worse.

He made other surprising picks, like Duron Harmon, but Harmon surprised people and proved to be worth the pick.

So if you can identify some out of the box thinking that worked why would you consider others to be inexplicable?

Drafting is an inexact science. And people get way to caught up in draft scoring. It's a way to add talent. For most of 20 years we didn't have a talent problem so who cares if some draft picks missed or if you consider them inexplicable.

Yeah, Mayo is just like him except for the 17 consecutive non-losing seasons. And that Superbowl victory. But let’s be fair to Big Ben, Tomlin had a 65% win pct with him, and a decent but pedestrian 54% without him. As we know from BB, the QB matters.

Forgive me for failing to suspend my disbelief. I’ll reevaluate my position when he takes the team to the playoffs.

They really don't have much similarities. Mayo is more like Jim Tomsula than Tomlin.

Mayo wasn't known around the league for anything and the unit he coached has been a weak link with the defense for years. Tomlin's claim to fame was coaching with Tony Dungy and winning a Super Bowl and then Pat/Kevin Williams in Minnesota. At least Tomlin was a DC for a year. Mayo was offered the title last season, but he rejected it.

There's a reason Mayo ditched the interview with Carolina and ran right back to NE. Bob probably told him if he comes back, he'll have in his contract that Mayo will succeed BB. Mayo probably didn't have much confidence he was going to get the Carolina gig.

There is no need to rehash the drafts of 2016 - 2022, or to weigh their merit against years of winning.

Belichick had to go because he lost the locker room. Something fell apart between the wind game in Buffalo in 2021 and the playoff thrashing the next month, and it spiraled out of control in 2022. They blew special teams plays repeatedly, they stopped playing disciplined football, they committed penalties. The team lost its ability to win on the margins, which was always the biggest advantage Bill the coach had.

The owner of the panthers is a clown.. he won't be a owner for long.. he's one more cup of beer thrown on a fan from being forced to sell... the weak link in the D that Mayo's coach PFF has patriots LBs listed in the top 20 heading into 2024...

Mayo's got something no one else in the league can say.. played under Bill and coached under Bill... he not only spurred the panthers for an interview I think the Browns wanted to interview him as well.
