Necro thread for OT (off topic) post? Wow!

what’s this got to do with Strange playing OT (offensive tackle)?

overloaded acronym OT is only connection…
Yes,
Strange would be offensive at OT.

Only thread I was able to find on this overdrafted bum. Month to month with knee injury per Jerod Mayo. What a joke.
Yes, Cole Strange was overdrafted. That's a sunk cost that cannot be changed and is now irrelevant.
What if Strange was a 4th or 6th round draft pick; is he still a bum?

Based on when he was placed on IR, then surgery, and then rehab - the timeline for being 100% was always going to be August, possibly September.

Strange should have been placed on IR before the season began, and had his surgery in September. Had that happened he would be 100% now, rather than rehabbing. He should not have been playing at all last year - and because he was playing injured his performance was not great.

Whether that decision is his fault, his agent's, Belichick, the team doctors - nobody knows and we'll likely never know.

Had Gonzalez played through his 2023 injury and as a result performed poorly on the field, still rehabbing now, would he too be an 'overdrafted bum'? If Judon had done the same, would he be an 'overpriced free agent'?

The Cole Strange hate on this forum is off the charts, in multiple threads. I guess he represents the last chance for people here to gripe about Belichick's draft decisions.

I will start by saying this, I don’t think Strange sucks but I don’t think he is very good either. He is an average guard who now seems to have an issue staying healthy.

As for the hate I think it has two factors. The first being Strange as a microcosm of Bill's roster management the last few years. Bill created this hole at guard by trading away a still solid guard in Mason, then weirdly franchised Thuney for god knows what reason just to let him walk a year later and probably cost us a comp pick. Then to top it off he screwed around with Karras and offered him a contract but when Karras's people came back to see if Bill would match he allegedly went lower. Bill seemed to keep chasing spots to fill on the roster instead of just retaining guys he already had.

The second factor was the state of the roster when Bill took Strange. There were so many spots that needed improvement or at least an infusion of youth and Bill took a player at a position that is normally filled by a guy from the mid rounds to UDFA. That complete bungling of asset management is what myself and many others hated about the Strange pick. This wasn't some sort of luxury like Mankins was when he was picked coming off of 3 super bowls in 4 years. This was a team that needed tons of help and we devoted a premium resource at a position that generally doesn't require one.

Well summed up. We had good/great guards and let them walk only to take a mediocre guard in the 1st round. Strange is bad against power rushers. Buckner absolutely abused him last year. A guy who should have went in the 4th we got in the 1st, and if someone took him before the 4th, then no big deal, he wasn’t a guy we needed to draft.

McVay is still laughing at this pick!
That was misinterpreted. He wasnt laughing at Bill. He was laughing because he had hoped to get him in Round 3 and didn’t realize he was that high on anyone’s board. You never know.

I doubt he’ll ever live up to first round status but I think Strange will be decent.

Take tackles round 1, guards you can find elsewhere.

The previous regime certainly lost its fastball the last few years. What do you want done? Cut him becuse he was overdrafted by Bill?
This is dumb!

Strange has been decent, not great but not a fiasco like Mafi was last year (or like Kenyon Green has been who was picked for 15 slots higher than Strange). He was OK or better when healthy, which he was not for all of last season. Coming from a Division 1 FCS program, his coaches were Matt Patricia and Billy Yates, then Adrian Klemm followed apparently by James Ferentz, that’s some ******** coaching.

I venture to say there hav been 50,000 posts on the this forum *****ing about that pick. At this point what’s the point?

Moderator edit: comment above moved to a new thread in order to avoid confusion with comments from a year+ old thread.
On of the stupidest threads in the history of this place.

Guy was leg-whipped and ended up busting his kneecap, patella injury. A serious injury.

This is like blaming Joe Theisman for his broken leg.

Cole Strange is definitely in the HOF of obsession joining Laurence Maroney (the founding father) and followed by N'Keal Harry. I'd say these are the top 3 most talked about 1st round draft picks of the Pats.

And the worst thing is, Strange doesn't even have a high butt factor. Could see it coming from a mile away ("it" being the disappointing production, not his butt sadly).

What my Grandfather would say if he seen this post
“Madone”…..…………….
