Agreed, but on gilly.. I go back and forth because he absolutely played the best ball of his career in NE.. he was "ok" after he left here. He's still a solid veteran not a #1 anymore But absolutely solid. Yeah Ryan, Samuel Harmon all went on to play well elsewhere.. Talib suddenly became healthy when he signed with Denver.

Welker couldn't take him out anymore, which helped.

Yeah maybe my point wasn't super consistent. Felt like a good take in the moment, I'll go back to the lab and tinker it a bit more.

No..it was a good take actually lol. If Welker wasn't taking him out he was taking himself out.. only in the most important games of the year.. AFC Championships..

I think he played better last season than he did in Carolina or Indy. He held his own against AJ Brown for the most part and his completion % allowed was the lowest it has been since his DPOY season.

Agreed, I believe it could just be because he was coming back from injury.. he did pick off Mac in that game.. in Carolina. By all means he's still a great player, he would be a great #2 somewhere.

I was more talking about wanting to go to a team that is a CB away from competing for the SB
thats not the Pats

Did he say that as important to him? I haven't seen him define "right opportunity" anywhere. That could mean a lot of things - money, playoffs, location, playing time, teammates and/or coaches he knows and likes,

The Pat’s are already at 90 players and they’re also deep at CB, I don’t see them brining Gilmore back now.
yup, with 90 critical players there is no room for a player who would on the 53 unless injured. Sigh

Not sure why people are acting like Gilmore is JC Jackson. Gilmore may not be elite like he was here but he still played pretty well last year. With that being said I want to see what we have here first. Can Alex Austin, Marco Wilson, or Isiah Bolden step into that outside corner role opposite Gonzo so we can move Jon Jones back into the slot? If Jones is back in the slot where does Marcus Jones end up? Maybe a dime or situational matchup guy? Does Dial enter the mix at all positions in the secondary or does he end up with the Foxboro Flu?

If we get into August and it doesn't look like any of these guys are the answer on the outside I would be fine paying Gilmore for a year while they develop someone else but ideally our starting corners are already on the roster.
You have to understand.

Folks would rather have Marco Wilson or Wade make the roster over Gilmore.

I think that if Gilmore were signed and there was the ususal camp compeitition and assessement, Gilmore would likely be starting opposite Gonzo

STATUS QUO WITH 6 CB's
outside: Gonzo, Austin, Bolden (also a KR)
nickel: Jones, Jones
#6 Dial or Marco Wilson or Wade or Hearn

Obviously Dial or Wilson might beat our Autin or Bolden.

BOTTOM LINE
I think that Gilmore would make this secondary better for 2024, 2025 and 2026 (basically as long as he lasts).

I think that Gilmore is waiting for the Spring camps to be over. Then he can make a decision and come into some camp, hopefully ours.

He would easily be the second best outside corner on the roster at worst if he signs this summer but I disagree on long term. To me Gilmore is a B- level starter in 2024 who is realistically only going to get worse as he is older. If they think that Wilson, Bolden, Austin, etc could be a C to C+ level starter and potentially finish the season at a B to B- level then I would much rather have a young guy develop and deal with the growing pains instead of a progress stopper blocking their growth. With that being said if none of the guys on the roster ever project to be starting NFL cornerbacks then bring in Gilmore.

I think your take is right on if you factor in performance vs. value of the contract. The players who were successful after the Pats were paid more to do the same or less elsewhere.

I wouldn't mind a Gilmore return to New England but only for a CB2 salary because he would be CB2 here behind Gonzo. If he's looking for 20m per year, that's gonna be a Sorry but Pass!
