Gilmore was great earlier in his career. It seemed that he was rightly focused on money while at his peak. The fact that he still wants to play after making bank means that he still loves to play. Depending upon what he is looking for he would be a great fit here mentoring Gonzalez. The fit is not as good if Gilmore is looking for a super bowl contender.

He doesn't define "right opportunity" any further.
If he wanted the Pats' "senior statesman" role, and if the Pats have offered one to him, he could have taken that by now. But who knows if the Pats coaching staff has even gotten around to focusing on that yet.

love Gilmore, but where he is today and where the Pats are today do not match up well imo
Where he is today and where our prized young CB Gonzalez is today matches up pretty well.

Not disagreeing just showing a different angle. I agree it's mostly not great match for 2024 other than that.

I was more talking about wanting to go to a team that is a CB away from competing for the SB
thats not the Pats

Gilmore is delusional thinking some team is going to offer him a ton of money. He was pretty awful last season against the better competition. That game against GB in the playoffs was brutal.

Bill was good at putting players where they'd succeed on defense. Especially the secondary. Quite a few Patriot CB's go on to secure massive contracts and then look out of place on another system.

And that is what GMs and coaches are looking at on film as well. He maximized his potential here becoming DPOY rightly deserved. I believe he would be a nice veteran presence on a SB contender.

I think you are spot on. I just don't see the team as a SB contender this season. they should be investing snap counts in Marcus Jones, Bolden, Dial, Wade, Austin and finding out if they can play CB in the NFL or not

He probably realizes that he is not in a position to look for big money so he might as well wait for the best situation for him. No rush to sign for the veterans minimum, a CB doesn't have a lot of complication when it comes to learning the playbook compared to other positions.

Any interest in xavien howard? I honestly didn’t see much of him last year so don’t know how much his game might have slipped

I agree with you. I'm very high on Austin he has the size 6'1, physicality, presence, instincts and ball skills to be a great CB. We have such a deep group of young guys all making thier way in the league. We aren't a SB contender what I do believe is this team can make the playoffs.

That's very true and sensible on his part. Guys get hurt all the time. I'm sure he'll stay in shape, and wait for an opportunity come camp. He has expressed interest in returning here he's told people around the league he'd love to play for mayo.

Like who? I feel like most went onto play pretty well elsewhere so I'm just curious who I'm not thinking of?

Based on how he played last year, and assuming all our DB's are healthy, I don't see a starting role for Gilmore at the Patriots. And I assume that's what he'd want, along with the commensurate salary.

I think some folk are conflating 2019 Gilmore with 2024 Gilmore. He's still serviceable, but he's nowhere near the player he was.

we have Barmore, lets add Gilmore

This.

And it should apply to the WR and LT positions as well.
