Mayo's saccharine SJW approach includes 'bro hugs' for the media

Mayo just can’t help himself. He cannot pass up any opportunity to reference Bill and talk about how he is different than him while simultaneously inferring that his (Mayo’s) way is probably better. I don’t disagree with “No, just take him” but if he wants to move on from Bill, he needs to stop referencing him publicly. For f*cks sake. Say less, Jerod, at least until you accomplish something that is actually meaningful in your coaching career (and I hope that this day does come, as long as he is the Pats coach).
He's like a jilted lover who can't move on.

I doubt you'll convince many women to become future bricklayers and roofers, or more men to go into nursing. In fact, you'll have to force them, because in countries that promote and enforce gender equality the most, we don't see more gender equality across professions, we see less. Paradoxically, the strictest countries have the highest disparity. This is a well-studied topic and you don't have to take my word for it. I don't want to live in a society which forces men and women into roles they don't want. That sounds like the Soviet Union or Orwell's 1984.

People think they are free to construct their own reality and force people to accept it, and some will dislike this post without comment for that very reason. They dislike, but are unable or unwilling to engage in discussion. They want to dictate.

Anyway, I'm going to drop this topic right here for good, because this site is about football and even tangentially political topics are toxic on a site like this (but I felt compelled to make myself clear).
Yeah I tend to ignore politics but this type of stuff is a little more than just politics so I appreciate your response.

Who gives a ****? If they win then it’s validated. The incumbent players certainly seem to like him because several took pretty good deals to stay on. If they have terrible years for 2 seasons and the rebuild goes nowhere then this stuff will look bad, but until then I really don’t care.
The BB defenders are still hanging onto his ghost even though he is very much alive, just not employed by any NFL team because nobody wanted to hire him even after all compensation strings were removed by Kraft.

This sounds like just more of a case of 'complain, complain, we don't like the new guy'.

People need to take a chill pill and stop sounding like Karens. You know who was a "rah rah" guy? Pete Carroll. And he ended up not being the right guy for New England but he did end up winning a championship with the Seahawks and he gave those fans some pretty good years.

I'm not saying Mayo is Pete Carroll but he definitely has the reputation of being a player's coach, and that's ok even if it's different because player coaches can win in the NFL. Just give him some time and see how this plays out. Not a single snap has been made in training camp yet and the complaints are coming already. What because of a few pictures on the wall and different slogans put up? This is baffling.

The same dweebs getting up in arms over Felger and Mazz all these years are now parroting Felger and Mazz.

Amen brother
Yes sir! I don't know why.. could be I'm just excited for the season. However I feel like this year's team is going to be a push over.

Absolutely, positively correct. Perfectly put. As a fan I actually like the player's, coaches, and people in the organization all talking about the team and the needs and what they want to be. There's nothing wrong with that it's basic what everyone else in the NFL does. Guys are not giving out game plans or schemes or doing anything to hurt the team. While I'll always appreciate Bill, I'm embracing change. It's just refreshing. Yeah I don't get the doom n gloom over some different slogans bein put up. All coaches do it all over the league. Didn't Bill take down pictures, ect. One year as well?

Imagine a boat where the captain was just tossed overboard in a mutiny. The new captain says he's going to fix things by burning the sails to gain firepower. The boat owner scolds him and instructs that he's not to say such things. After a quick hug and whispered nicknames, they adjust the matching pins on each other's chests and all is right with the world.

The boat is sinking, some of the sailors point out. The new captain orders that they paint an image of himself over each hole, all the while talking about what the old captain would have done in his place.

Looks like one of the sails did catch fire, a sailor yells.

There's an iceberg up ahead, another sailor calls out. The new captain muses out loud about the old captain. Nobody is asking about the old captain, a sailor says. The new captain proceeds to call a cuddle huddle, a new teambuilding strategy that he proceeds to explain is quite different from the old captain's ways.

Something isn't quite right on this boat, murmur a few sailors, but their unease is quickly answered by dismissive remarks. We have to give the captain a chance, they others say. We still haven't seem him sail a real storm. There's no reason to worry. As long as he gets us to the next port, that's all we should care about. You naysayers are outdated and crazy...

Time to re-read Moby **** with focus on Captain Ahab?
It's literary insight like this that keeps me coming back to Ian's house.

If I were Mayo I'd stop talking about BB. Don't talk about how you're the same, how you're different, what you do differently. Just let his name run out of the discourse as much as you can. Because while we're coming off a 4-13 season and there's some dissatisfaction with what BB did his last few years, he still had the most overall success anyone has ever had with an organization. Highlighting how different you are might play well now, but eventually recency bias will wear off and nostalgia will creep in. Especially with the team not looking poised for an immediate turnaround back to contending for anything meaningful. Constant compare and contrast to BB probably isn't something you're going to want in the long haul. The media and fans that love how different he is now will turn on him fast if they don't see results. They turned on BB the same way even after all he accomplished before the downturn.

I only got as far as the captain getting thrown overboard. Wouldn't it have been kinder just to have dropped him off in Nantucket?

as long as he does't start acting like the twit in miami, i'll give him the benefit
What really bugs me is that their twit is so much more entertaining than our twit.

Does the ship have a safe space to huddle and cuddle in, asking for a friend.

I think Mayo did that as a fan speak. Like a media relations type thing. I don't believe he meant anything harm by it. But I agree with your point. I'm starting to turn on the idea of them not being good this season.

I just don't see them worse. We had a steady decline the last 2 seasons offensively. There are a multitude of reasons. First off we are far better at the QB position with a rookie in in Drake and a veteran in Brissett. This defense is back at full strength, and with an attitude and chip on thier shoulders. Last season you just knew from the first snap in games that the offense would give the game away. I believe this team won't be a push over this season, and these guys want to play Hard for Mayo.

I don't care if they get Joya Powell to perform dance activism to hype up the team or get RuPaul to come in and talk about her life as a transgender, if they win games and get to the playoffs it's all good.
Technically, RuPaul is a drag artist, not transgender. Interesting to note that he has been criticized by the trans community for his views and use of transphobic language.

This is just a gratuitous slap in the face at Bill, VJ. The man did what no HC has done in the hard cap era. He LITERALLY maintained a competitive championship contender team for 20 straight years. He did this while he RARELY fielded the better roster during the playoffs.

His handling of Mac and his lack of success in the draft justifies his firing, in my mind. But please don't just casually dismiss him like he was trash.
This sounds like just more of a case of 'complain, complain, we don't like the new guy'.
The most important impressiom a HC HAS to portray is that he is REAL. This is the ultimate mistake Josh, and Patricia (along with others in his tree) made. They both tried to be mini-Bill and they weren't. There IS no singular pattern to create a great HC. From Bill to Pete there have been dozens of successful HC's who do it DIFFERENTLY, but the one consistent factor in this is that they are ALL true to who they were,.

Professional athletes for the most part are grown men. They will quickly see through frauds or guys trying to be something they are not. Bill did it his way and Mayo is doing it HIS way. Only time and results will determine if Jerad's vision is successful. But I'll say one thing for sure, we are NOT going to know which way it will go THIS season, or the next. We have to let the man have 3 years to see if he's on the right track.

The reputation of being a "players coach"? I have NEVER heard that term in connection to Mayo prior to him becoming the Pats HC back in February. Granted you might IMPLY it, given the fact he was a well regarded Player and we just got rid of the guy who optimized the tyrannical one man rule. But it will take some time to see what Mayo's coaching "style" is like. It will be one thing I will be pay very close attention to when camp opens....and I won't be alone. But so called "coaching styles" change and evolve over time as a HC learns his craft.

I don't disagree. A lot of fans who rag on Bill, seem to long for his "tough guy/old school" persona in their next coach. Hard to figure. Mayo is a VERY smart guy, who went after this job HARD and seems to have a vision of how a professional football operation should run. He came back to coaching SPECIFICALLY to become a HC. No doubt in my mind, within a few years (if he hadn't gotten the job here) he would have gotten the chance else where.

......and you are right, it IS baffling

Genuinely starting to believe that there are some people on this forum who would prefer to go 3-14 again and watch Mayo sink than having a team that stacks up some wins and improves under his "culture".

Both of you make valid points. I'll just add if I may.. Bills style worked with the Brady generation of players. He accomplished more than what we could ever fathom and I'm grateful. As for all legendary coaches without the QB it's just not possible. I feel like maye is a hit, and he, and Mayo with be tied together.
