Would be ballsy for sure,
And would be a nice footnote for the next franchise Michigan QB after Brady.
Nice symmetry.
Draft McCarthy at 8? Are you nuts? I’d rather them keep the pick select one of the 3 QBs,This is what I would advocate as a well.
Our 3rd for their 8th + 2nd rounder + 2025 first rounder.
Draft mccarthy at 8.
A key component to trading down is knowing that everyone else's boards are overrating players you value otherwise. The team visit season is going to be awesome. First time in over 20 years every player should accept an invite. One thing I never read here when it comes to advocates of the trade down scenario, what if you miss on your 1st round pick? Odunze and Nabers look great for sure. But they are not 100% locks. Wide receivers never are. Sammy Watkins was such a lock Buffalo traded 2 1sts for him. One of them can bust easily. And if Joe Alt gets taken at, say, 5, and you're sitting there at 8 or 11, how do you know Olu Fashanu isn't another Mekhi Becton?
Speaking of Mekhi, we should maybe have a little interest in him --- > over to the FA thread.
I’m not for a trade down but Fashanu looks like the real deal. One thing I never read here when it comes to advocates of the trade down scenario, what if you miss on your 1st round pick? Sounds like McCarthy is a late riser, and getting him at 34 seems like a pipe dream at the moment.Draft McCarthy at 8? Are you nuts? I’d rather them keep the pick select one of the 3 QBs,
If you wanted to trade back fine. But take a better player and draft McCarthy or Nix at 34. You are overestimating McCarthy quite a bit.
He’s an interesting prospect that absolutely should of stayed in school. I don’t know what to think of him to be honest. Played in primarily a running program and wasn’t asked to do much. But it’s not like the scouts are beating down his door either from what they saw. A couple of articles written by the Denver post or cbs with an unnamed Nfl exec claiming he’s the best QB doesn’t really turn my head. I could see Denver taking but only because they don’t have a QB and he likely won’t make it to them in the next round.Sounds like McCarthy is a late riser, and getting him at 34 seems like a pipe dream at the moment.
Let’s see how things develop.
Mahomes was a late riser.
Did you see his arm.. it's a bazooka. he is unpolished . Else he goes number 1 . For a team that's middling like us it's better to punt on mccarthy and also have a backup 1st round pick in 2025 should things go sideways.Draft McCarthy at 8? Are you nuts? I don't know, when you have NFL super geniuses drafting Zach Wilson and Trey Lance 2-3 in the draft, who knows?I think we can all agree that we will not get a Top 5 prospect at #8.
There is zero chance he's there at 34.Draft McCarthy at 8? Are you nuts? I’d rather them keep the pick select one of the 3 QBs,

He’s got some tools, but you better be damn sure you aren’t throwing away a top 3 pick for the sake of stocking up picks and going with someone you think is the guy.Did you see his arm.. it's a bazooka. he is unpolished . Right, just like there was 0 chance Aaron Rodgers would be there at 24.There is zero chance he's there at 34.

Purdy is better than most give him credit for. He really has a lot of guts standing in the pocket that long, and he's accurate. He could be a Drew Brees.I’m not for a trade down but Fashanu looks like the real deal.
I’m gonna sink or swim with the QB though I decided the next Purdy is a 1% long shot, just Look at his weapons. If he was drafted to a bad offense like ours he’d be dog meat. So will Nix, McCarthy or Rattler etc.
Of course, all these people who thought he was no Brett Favre should then explain why they let Brett Favre drop to the 2nd round.24 is a lot different than 34. Plus, there were plenty of questions about Rodgers coming out. From NFL scouts:
Marc Ross, Buffalo: "He's a little short. The thing you worry about is those (Jeff) Tedford guys. They don't do anything for a couple years and then they have a good year or two. Who of his quarterbacks has done what they're supposed to do? None of them. Is he just working magic with great college quarterbacks or just manufacturing guys?"
AFC scout: "I like him. He's a very talented guy. A lot of quarterbacks that were system people have not done very well. That puts up a red flag. Not that he is one of them. He could be an exception. But I can't get it out of my craw."
Rich Snead, Tennessee: "I like him. I just don't know if he's maxed out. He's more accurate than (Kyle) Boller but probably not as athletic. He's a better player than Akili Smith. He's more athletic than (Trent) Dilfer was. He's a little more mobile than Joey Harrington. He had to go to a JC because no one would recruit him because they said he was too small. He's been busting his (expletive) his whole life to get to this point. I just don't know how much more he has to give."
NFC scout: "(Alex) Smith is the better athlete."
AFC scout: "I think he has some upside although there are some things that are just ordinary about him."
Jerry Angelo, Chicago: "I'd give Rodgers the edge (over Smith) just because he was easier to evaluate. And there's a little more arm. But the edge is negligible."
NFC scout: "I think he has a good chance of being a bust. Just like every other Tedford-coached quarterback. Thing I struggle with him is he gets sacked a lot. He doesn't have great ability to change the release of the football. He's mechanically very rigid. Brett Favre can change his release point and find different windows. There will be more growing pains with Alex Smith but in the end he has a much better chance to be much better."
NFC scout: "The guys that Tedford has had, what have they developed into? They're too well-schooled. So mechanical. So robotic. I don't know if they become good pro players. I think Rodgers is in that same mold."
AFC scout: "I don't like him. He's a clone of Harrington and Boller. They all throw the same way. What have those guys done? Nothing. If you take him in the second round, fine. Heady guy. They do a marvelous job of coaching quarterbacks there. I don't think he's as good as the top quarterbacks coming out last year."
AFC scout: "I don't think he's in the class of the quarterbacks that came out last year. Strong arm. Pretty good athlete. Still has some holes in his game."
Bill Polian, Indianapolis: "I see a guy who has good arm strength. I see some athletic ability. I see a guy who was pretty good with a good team. I see a guy who's in a pretty efficient offense. Am I certain that he's going to come in and lead my team to the Promised Land? I can't say that. I'm not even sure I can say that about Alex Smith."
AFC scout: "He's a system quarterback. 3-, 5-, 7-step guy. Can't create on his own. Panics under pressure. Gets flustered easy. I don't think there's a quarterback in the draft worthy of a first-round pick. I'm dead serious. None of them are worth it."
Lot different getting picked over position of need rather than talent. He might go to Denver at 12 but only because they let go of Wilson. I don’t see a lot of other qb needy teams making a run at him when there will be so many wrs and offensive lineman on the board. He's better than most give him credit for. He really has a lot of guts standing in the pocket that long, and he's accurate. He could be a Drew Brees.
What does he lack? Height, like Brees. Does not have as strong an arm as Brees. But he's savvy.
I actually think Shanahan may be a little bit of a problem for him, in that the 49ers are looking for home runs way too often. You don't have any short crossers in the playbook? A QB should never hold the ball for 4 or 5 seconds like he does, eyes trained downfield. Take the short stuff once in a while.
Purdy has accuracy and is very good at going thru reads when he has time to throw from the pocket. Purdy lacks arm strength so limits him to good/very good vs elite.Purdy is better than most give him credit for. He really has a lot of guts standing in the pocket that long, and he's accurate. He could be a Drew Brees.
