2024 NFL Draft Thread (Continued..)

Every QB thinks that and wants to start. Until they get to be about 30+

You think Fitzpatrick didn't believe that?

Or even Hoyer?

You know how old Brissett is...31.

Rumors suggest there's a good chance Pats pick Daniels at #3...
I'm still very uneasy about that. There is only 1 in 3 chance that a first round QB hits.

Daniels seems more mentally stable than Williams, and I'd much rather get him than Williams, but I still don't want to take such a big swing on a such a skinny running QB - who is certain to get hurt (more than Lamar).

Lazar seems to think Maye is the pick for the AVP offense. But, seriously, is Maye that much better of a prospect than Nix?

The 1 worthy advantage about Maye is prototype size. He is the Allen / Herbert of this draft. Big kid, good mobility, and strong arm.
I would absolutely take Maye at #3, and I hope he falls to us there because those teams drafting QB's before us prefer Williams and Daniels over Maye for their teams.

I hate highlights that are 50% bombs down field, next to useless. But this dose show some progressions/reading the field which is nice, as well as off platform throws. I've stopped watching film until after the combine, but Maye is still my best case pick at #3
Maye at #3 for us would be the best case scenario.

Why shouldn’t they think they can be starters?

If they don’t have confidence in themselves why would we want them?

That's my point, we probably don't want them in this case.

Neither looks like the long term answer here, and if they are concerned about keeping the starting job they won't be mentoring a (theoretical) rookie. If they are going to draft a QB high everything this offseason should be aimed towards setting them up to succeed. That means a bridge QB, or two.

1) The Offense has too many holes, specially on the line, to put a rookie behind.
2) We'll need someone that is familiar with the system AvP is likely to run, to A) actually run the offense this season; B) to teach the rookie the offense and how to be a professional.

Howe reporting that Pats will consider a LT if Elliot Wolf is in charge....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh man, to be the Bears in this draft!
If they decide to stick with Fields, they're going to have a blast at the draft. Dangle the #1 pick around, up the bidding, let the rumors fly...then trade it to the Commanders (you know Kingsbury would kill for Williams).

Now you have pick #2 and all the other goodies Washington gave you. The Patriots want a QB...rinse and repeat from pick 1, up the bidding, then swap with the Pats for pick #3 plus.

Then take MHJ, who was your choice all along to put with Fields.

maye at 3 and then trading up with the second and third rd pick to select Mims would be a dream scenario
Because Mims had an injury (which has since been successfully treated) this past season, he might be there when we're picking in the 2nd round. Then we wouldn't have to trade up to get him. Then, we could trade back into the 2nd round after getting Mims and draft Patrick Paul for LT.

Let’s hope the Pats won’t bite.

The Pats can gain by trading down too.

There's one Mock Draft on NFL.com that has Williams going #1, Daniels going #2 (which would be a dream for me, as it leaves Maye for us ), and MHJ going to the Patriots at #3. If that happens, and they pass up Drake Maye, that would horrible. The same mock has the Patriots trading back into the 1st round to pick Bo nix at #30 (which would also be a huge mistake). If they trade back into the 1st after taking taking Maye at #3 if he's there, they should be taking Mims at #30 (or an OT that they believe can be solid). Top-notch WR's can be had in rounds 2 and after. And that's not counting possibly getting Higgins or Pittman Jr. in FA if they're not tagged.

That’s level 0 game theory. If Chicago tries to trade twice you immediately know they don’t want a QB and can just stay pat.

This scares me. Top position in need is QB. If we aren’t taking a QB then it should be MHJ. Yes LT is a top need but we can’t pass on QB/ or MHJ

Sure, and here’s the next level: if you don’t trade for pick #2, they trade it to one of the teams behind you who does want a QB.

So sure, maybe they get MHJ, maybe not, but they’ll get a haul.

So first picking Nix is saying he is going to sit for a year to work on his mechanics, and teach him to read progressions, one of the QBs on the roster or a FA would be starting. 2nd, I would have to see the trade, but it will be 34 to start which means we would be handing LT to a 3rd rounder at best...
34 to 29 isn't going to cost much; maybe a 4th.

And that's how the Bears lose out on MHJ if the Patriots don't like whoever's left.
