Ben Johnson is loyal AF.
Probably has a pet nickname for Mrs. Ford like Mayo has for ThunderStick

are we going to keep blaming bb for stuff after he's gone as well? the team has a great defensive roster,a lot of cap space and the #3 pick. what "rot" is there now that would discourage anyone?
I think it is totally valid to still blame Bill in the short term. He played a large, if not central role in creating a toxic environment that engulfed Foxboro in recent years in addition to dreadful personnel decisions. Offensive coaches are likely hesitant to come because of the situation Bill left us in. A terrible line, terrible receivers, no QB. This is a two year project, assuming all goes to plan, before we can establish a legitimate NFL offense. Top tier candidates aren't coming here unless the Kraft's really open up their wallet.

We might be able to get the receiving talent necessary this off-season but the offensive line will not be ready until the 2025 season at earliest, particularly if they let Onwenu walk.

Who confirmed we ever offered him the job?
I saw an article saying he turned us down but it looked like click bait.
I don’t think anything was official.
Whether we offered him the job or not, he is out. QED

Keep your head down there in the sand for as long as your fluttering little heart requires.

ummmm...what?
if there is rot, there's no reason why it still has to be there now. he's gone, they can rid themselves of whatever they choose that he put in place.

but he's gone. if there was "toxicity" it's gone,or can be gotten rid of. this sincerely makes no sense to me as a take for why no one would want to go to the pats since there's a lot of money to be spent and top draft picks in play.

If you think the toxicity is gone automatically, which I don't agree with, fine. But the personnel situation he brought upon the team will keep us as a sub .500 team next season. So yeah he still deserves blame in the short term.

The personnel cant be fixed in one off season, even with the #3 pick and abundant cap space. And even with that cap space we still have defensive players we have to pay.

I love those hypothetical point that can’t be proven nor argued just to be miserable.

We didn’t made a single player decision for next year the current season isn’t even over but somehow we are a lock to finish sub .500 next year

Can we at least wait until after free agency before we proclaim what this team is gonna be ?

didn't those 2 get their prior jobs due to nepotism? what about mayo's brother? i just hope the nepotism complainers are consistent.
No exactly. I don't doubt their fathers helped them to get a coaching job in the NFL. I think the difference, at least to me, is that both these guys started their NFL careers after coaching in college and then hired by an NFL team before and after working with their fathers on a few NFL teams.

Scott Turner coached in college for 3 years, then coached with Panthers for 2 years before working as WR/QB coach when Norv was OC for Browns/Vikings/Panthers.

Klint Kubiak coached in college for 4 years, then coached with Vikings for 2 years before working as Asst/QB coach when Gary was HC/Asst HC for Broncos/Vikings.

In addition, both these guys went on to coach for several NFL teams after their fathers retired and are both generating interest for the OC position.

Steve Belichick never coached in college. His first and only job as a coach was with Pats the entire time Bill was the HC/GM. He's also never been considered as a candidate for any coaching position by any other team. In fact, word was he would follow his Dad to ATL had Bill been hired as the HC. That's 100% the definition of nepotisim.

Though I'll acknowledge there was also some level of nepotisim with the other two despite the fact they both cut their teeth in the coaching field years before being hired by their fathers.

As it relates to Mayo's brother, I'm not sure when he started as S&C coach in NE or who hired him.

I agree that it is the present state of the team that is relevant to the rebuild, but planning the excision of Bill's dismal legacy will require , after all, attention to what Bill has done. Maybe, because I am still mightily pissed about Bill's dereliction, my thinking is a tad too ad hominem. I don't think we actually disagree, push come to shove, and there are far more pissing contests hereabouts than are needed, so carry on and thumbs up.

Add a semi-competent QB and a semi-competent LT and the Pats are in the playoff picture next year

If the line is the 4 starters plus a top LT, I don't see how you can argue this.

If the line loses Onwenu and Strange, then yes, it will get worse. But if it's, say, Amarius Mims, Cole Strange, David Andrews, Sidy Sow and Mike Onewnu, it should be a pretty good line.

They toxic environment was created by babies (Mac), the Krafts and their cadre of backstabbers.

2 years ago in the playoffs, the defense was decimated. It has now been revamped. They need a QB badly, a top WR and a LT.

They’re the Lions so I bet he calls her Putty Tat

So instead of getting Shane Waldron maybe we get the guy that was fired to hire Shane Waldron? Sign me up for season tickets!

Sounds like he’s setting up the kind of offense a Rookie qb could easily acclimate to.
It’s gotta be Qb in the third.
Or Mac Jones...
(Had to be said - all the crap that's come out seems to be saying htat Mac had something that was ruined. If this is Kraft-inspired, then he (they) might want to give Mac another year.)

You're really absolving Belichick of blame? Get real, that's not a serious take.

As for the OL there was a report that they didn't intend to resign Onwenu. If that's the case our line ****ed. I'm going by that for now until we go ahead and show an intention resign him.

I'm not optimistic about us keeping Onwenu. A big mistake.
With rookie qb and new OC, OL is the most important unit. More important than wrs though we need them, too.

They'd be crazy or just cheap as hell to let Onwenu walk. That means they'd need to draft 2 tackles and hope they turn out to be good players.

IMO, this is utter and complete nonsense.

First you might compare us to the 2022 HOU team.
=======
But, let's have the discussion again that we've had on 100 threads. And, yes we obviously disagree.
============
1) First, I would note that we were in the playoff picture through the last couple of game for the three years AB, even in the playoffs for one of those years.

2) We have analyzed the 2023 season before, during and after. Even ignoring the many, many injuries, for much of the season we believed that the two KEYS to our failure to be a playoff contender were QB play and OT play. And, of course, we needed a top receiver to be contender to go deep into the playoffs.

3) I won't use a wish list of free agents. We all have our favorites.

4) Our cap money (plus Jackson's money) is enough to re-sign our free agents and to sign a Tannehill type QB, a starting WR. a FS and an OT or two.

5) We can use our first 4 draft picks to fill in our needs QB and OT (and perhaps even a WR). More likely is one defensive pick. We need future help on the DL and at CB.

6) A wildcard is the open question of whether Kraft will allow the team to defer the "normal" percentage of contract accounts to the future.
That is the "magic" of the cap that cause so many to think that it doesn't matter. It certainly does matter. The patriots simply make poor use of it.

CONCLUSION
With Tannehill (or equivalent) starting for most of the season, we can be a contender for the playoffs in 2024. Yes, the issue is INDEED a 3 year plan to get deep into the playoffs and have a team that might contend for the AFC championship. That does indeed 3-4 years, barring a very good pick.
