OT: Simmoms ... Atlanta Front Office Does Not Want Bill.

Leaving aside the front office stuff which is obvious no one is going to want to give up power Falcons are probably realizing unless you think you can win the Super Bowl or at least go on a deep run and have a rock solid plan to get the quarterback to help you do it this off season, getting Bill for a couple of years is expensive and pointless and you'd be as well going with Ben Johnson or Bobby Slowik for less than half the cost and a longer window.

The biggest obstacle to Belichick getting a HC job is going to be control. I doubt Belichick wants anyone other than an owner above him, and teams with a GM aren’t going to want to deal with him.
If Belichick is taking that kind of hard line, then he's an idiot

He should go somewhere with a good team and just coach and get the record and be done with it

(He later corrected it to Mike Smith, not Dan Quinn.)

It’s easy to see how this isn’t an appealing situation for anybody, not just Belichick. Schultz retired from The Athletic a few weeks ago, so it’s interesting that now he’s finally willing to talk about McKay.

If I had to decide between Bill Belichick and Rich McKay, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't choose McKay.

I would imagine that Bill's okay with some kind of GM, because he has to be at this stage, but I don't blame him for thinking the Falcons can do better.
I can’t blame the Falcons if Bill wants full control for 2 years and bring his own coaching staff after what happened with the Patriots.

If Bill just want to coach the players the Falcons give him, they should go for it but I would be a little scared to give full control to a guy that had questionable decision personnel wise the last 2 few years and that will probably change a lot of the current structure just for 2 years.

Can’t imagine they are trilled when he said he will bring Patricia and Judge with him.

You say he has to be, but if that was the case, he probably could have just made it very clear that he would have accepted that here.

Bill leaving tells me "Kraft wanted Bill out of having full control, Bill didn't want to be somewhere where he didn't have full control and they set up a nice little amicable exit".

I've heard Falcons fans echo this sentiment. Getting MBS across the finishline made McKay invaluable to the org in Blank's eyes. He won his power back and has deep league ties. Hard to see Blank getting rid of him for 2-3 years of Bill.

Bill did make it very clear when he said it in the press conference. Kraft was ready to move on to Mayo.

Again, I think Bill is willing to work with a GM. I don't think he's willing for it to be McKay. Comparing the two men's accomplishments makes it clear why Blank is keeping Bill in mind and why McKay is arranging more interviews.

Even Arthur Blank is going to have to think about this one. Bill would definitely help them win but he is not going to be a long term answer even, or even really a five year answer. Cleaning out an entire FO for him means they basically have to go and rebuild the entire FO in about two or three years. Are they really going to win a SB during that time? Lots to think about here

Yeah I'd give better than even odds that BB is not coaching next year.
Given the alleged power struggle situation that may arise with McKay there and the fact that the Falcons have interviewed about a dozen candidates I would say it's no sure thing Bill is their guy. The only other current opening that would make any sense for Bill is LA and they look like they will require a minor rebuild with all the aging players with big contracts. In addition the Chargers owners don have deep pockets (relatively speaking) and may not want to fork over $25 mill+ a year for Bill.

They already have a lot a QB fixes them.

I disagree with this. Bill said that he "would do whatever was best for the team". He was act point blank if he would give up GM responsibilities and did not say yes. So to think he would do that, you'd have to think Bill would ever believe that giving up that roll would be what is best for the team. I don't see a world where he would actually concede that.

Bill's been the GM of his teams since the second year he was with the Browns. I can't see him realistically agreeing to give that up.

If Andy Reid does retire after this season, could anyone see Bill going to KC?

Shrug. Agree to disagree. I took him being asked if he'd relinquish personnel decisions and he said that he'd agree to whatever "we decide" is in the best interest of the team to mean conversations with Kraft. But I also assumed it was a hail Mary to try to save his job. But maybe you're right about the conversations with Blank and Bill would rather head off into media rather than not have control.

Either way, I certainly don't blame him for wanting to have more say than McKay.

Belichick can't do what he does unless he gets his players.

He has an obvious sytem.

He's not going to succeed with light, pass rushing DEs who can't set the edge, without bigger strong safeties who play a hybrid position, with gambling CBs.

On offense, he's going to emphasize possession.

Unless you commit to drafting two 275 lb bookends at DE (unless they already exist on that team), two 220 lb safeties, fundamentally sound CBs, and a possession WR plus pass catcher out of the backfield plus 2 TEs, there's just no point to having him at all.

One of the first things he did when he got to New England is he sent 250 pound Greg Spires away

So if Bill wants to slowly turn the team into New England south why would anyone want to hire him? The league is moving to smaller and faster on defense to keep up with better athletes on offense. For Bill to come in and say "I want to rebuild this team the way I did with the Patriots 24 years ago" would be insane.

I think the scorched earth slander campaign in the media against the Krafts and Mayo undertaken by Bill’s yes men and sycophants still in “the building “ is not helping Belichick’s chances of landing a job.

Why would any owner willing subject himself and his team to that nonsense for a soon to be 72 year old coach?
