2024 NFL Draft Thread (Continued..)

The disrespect of Brady is ridiculous. The dude threw it 75 yards in air during superbowl in the final minute of the game with a high ankle sprain.

The only thing Brady ever lacked was speed, other than that he was the perfect QB arm strength included

IMO, Fields kind of is the cheap project but with a higher ceiling. He’s very cheap in 2024 and moderately expensive for a QB in 2025, but if you treat it as a 2 year deal, it’s about $15M a year. If you don’t pick up his option at all then it’s simply a very cheap one year contract.
I'd agree if he were a free agent. It's the draft pick for him that I get stuck on. Anything higher than a four and I'd rather roll the dice with a lesser QB in the draft or Minshew for a year.

Agreed. I'd give up a 4th rounder for him (even better, a 4th in the 2025 Draft instead of this Draft).

after getting hit most of the game, BLASTED by Alford the play before, and that was his 47th throw of the game

I’ve probably seen thousands of comments on football forums over the years about Brady’s weak or average arm. they’re all idiots. hell, Brady’s money throw throughout his career was the 15-20 yard laser. you need a strong arm for that

This is an “Early NFL draft talk thread”. Can we not get sidetracked with irrelevant posts in defense of Brady’s arm strength just because someone wrote that (gasp) he didn’t have a cannon for an arm.

Those pearls were clutched time and time again when he was still playing for the Pats and almost everyone here would agree that his arm strength was underrated, perhaps even significantly underrated. Let’s move on.

Good afternoon Cousins,. So it starts. ...........Had a hearty breakfast this morning of bacon crisp and eggs over easy with some fresh oatmeal toast and strawberry jam. A cup of tea (yes prefer coffee but .....) and some cranberry pomegranate juice.

Interesting scenario with the Justin Fields trade mentioned. His stats are close to Jones . He has had much better receivers which is disconcerting. He has a better arm than Jones. He can scramble better than "turtle" Jones and he has more potential. I think Jones has the better football capacity and makeup, but he has had all of the best until he reached the pros and so far a failure on the field.

If I were starting a game tomorrow Fields would be my QB. .....but still kind of hold my nose. A change of scenery might be best for both. Look how Geno developed. Maybe Goff to a smaller extent.

I would like to say that none of the top four or five 2024 candidates are Canton material. You as a Pats fan must decide if 1) you want to wait about three years of terrible results without a sniff at the playoffs (are we better than the Bills, Dolphins or Jets with Aaron?) Or do we have too many holes to plug that one "definite maybe" young aspiring QB will make a difference? 2) Let's stock up on some legitimate "hole fillers" now and continue to build a Team but remain competitive.

So O.K. I like the thinking of the Fields trade. as an option which still frees up another blue chip player to Draft.

We offer up another scenario for your pleasure of mispleasure which could package us a vet QB which we need regardless, and a couple other hole fillers. The Broncos are trying to deal Wilson. They are in CAP and pick hell. We can afford him. He was not that bad in 2023. Over 66% completions, over 3,000 yards and 26 TDs and 8 INT. He did not fit with Payton so they mothballed him for the last two games to trade him. Would the Bronco's want #3? Yep.

My proposal would be the Bronco's #12 pick, Wilson, LT Garrett Boles (31 and still playing at a high level) and WR Jerry Juedy (not a Payton favorite) for our #3 pick and Mac Jones.

At pick #12 we could go top end OT or WR unless one of the top QBs drop.We could even trade down and get a good WR or OT in a good class.
Then at pick #34 I am suggesting we look at this kid. Michael Pratt from Tulane. If he was at a big name school he might be a top ten pick with the right Team like a Georgia. We let him learn for Wilson,

Arm Strength7.7/10
Accuracy8.0/10
Mechanics8.5/10
Ball Placement8.4/10
Throwing Motion8.4/10
Progressions7.7/10
Decision Making7.8/10
Functional Mobility8.8/10
Durability7.8/10
Poise8.1/10
Grade81.2/100 Second Round
Pratt is a talented player but lacks the higher-end tools that are needed to be a first round quarterback. He did a really good job elevating the talent around him at Tulane and can attack the defense in multiple ways, but not being able to drive the ball outside the numbers will limit him at the next level.
Pratt is mechanically sound. He is consistent with his drop-back and his footwork and his release is crisp.

Has a fair amount of zip on the ball when playing in rhythm. Sees the field well and has no issue driving the ball into tight windows.

Shows good ball placement to all levels of the field. Can throw with good placement while on the move or with his base underneath him.

Pratt is plenty comfortable on the move. He is trying to throw the football initially before taking off which is also a plus. Pratt has good burst from the pocket and can eat up chunks of yards in the open field.

Thoughts or threats?
DW Toys

My thinking. **** that, take the QB at 3. Russell Wilson sucks, Justin Fields sucks, taking other teams garbage sucks. Take the QB at 3. Nice to see you back DW, but I hate these ideas, and all the other elaborate draft machinations when the answer is simple, take the QB at 3. Next year's draft class sucks at QB, and this year there are 3 good prospects at the position. Take one of them and then address your other needs. And there is no rule that you have to wait 3-4 years before drafting another QB, go ahead and draft one with an early pick every draft until you find the great one, it’s the not position on the team where you have to be great to be a serious contender every year, and if you find one that’s better than a good one that you have you can always trade the good one for a really good pick or player.

You mad Bro??

WR class is loaded we can't miss this time around even if we tried.

I agree with this. This the deepest WR draft in years, they can get their QB, starting left tackle in Day 1, and good Wr’s on day 2 &3. They have a ton of work to do on offense, but they can get a lot of it done this offseason.

Looks like that. So should we go MHJ at 3 when we can get 80% MHJ in 2nd round ?

Draft Maye at 3 if available else trade down with chargers get 2 additional 2nd rounders and get 2 OT and 1 WR with 3 picks in top 40 .

Notable. Seems like this year will be a top heavy draft. May not be the best year to try and stockpile mid to late round selections.

This was true last year, too. Pats tried to trade up and couldn’t.

Sign Browning in FA. (Trade Mac, keep Zappe and/or Rourke as backup)
Trade #3 down to between #7-13 (gain extra high 2nd rounder) - Pick OT Fashanu.
Use our 2nd rd. (#34) - WR Legette
Use added 2nd rd. - QB Penix or Nix
Fill out Rd 3-7 with TE (Ben Sinnott or Theo Johnson), DT, DB, RB...

Imagine this lineup:

OL: *Fashanu - Strange/Mafi - Andrews - Onwenu - Sow/McD/*draft
WR: Bourne - Pop - *Legette - *FA(Pittman) - Reagor - Boutte?
RB: Rham - *FA(Edwards-Helaire) - Harris/FA
TE: Henry - *draft - Brown

Even Mac could win with this

He certainly developed the velocity on his throws to get it to the receivers on time and on target (and even give them a chance to get YAC).
Brady worked incessantly on his throwing mechanics, making sure everything was aligned perfectly to produce maximum power. Throwing mechanics seemed like a foreign word to Jones.

I've also noticed (especially with Jordan Love in last night's game against San Francisco, which a friend who's a Packers Fan also noticed), that he made a lot of throws off of his back foot (which many QB's, especially drafted the last few years seem to do), that were horrible passes. Even when Brady rolled-out, he made a point to set his feet before throwing the ball. Unless A QB had freakish arm strength, Throwing off of the back foot usually doesn't end well. Mahomes seems to do better at that, even so, it sometimes comes back to bite him. Brady mastered the mechanics in the arm, footwork, and body alignment of throwing the football which few other before and since have been as great at doing.
