Bill’s first offer…

Bill to Atlanta would be extremely disappointing. A 6 time SB winning coach needs to go to a good team in a big market. I don't like LA for Bill - too many holes. Dallas or bust.
Atlanta is literally the same size media market as Boston.

I thought I made it more clear when I edited it. Atlanta is not a good team.

What better than turn a franchise around? Just like he did here. The similarities are so close they almost rhyme:

Pats make it to SB and lose in 96-97, BB is head coach four years later
Falcons make it to SB and lose in 2016-17, BB is head coach seven years later (holy **** time flies)

All that said I really doubt BB becomes HC of Atlanta. I believe that interview was to put pressure on other owners.

I wouldn't be surprised if BB didn't get an offer he will be willing to take primarily due to his age.

Atlanta is the 8th largest metropolitan statistical area in the US. Boston is 11th. Atlanta seems like a small market because their NFL team has stunk historically so loyalties aren’t as strong. Despite the protestations of many on this board — who were in fact the actual diehard fans beforehand — New England was viewed similarly for the NFL when Kraft bought the team. If Belichick wins in Atlanta, the fan base might finally blossom there.
The other difference is that historically Atlanta is much smaller.

In 1990 Atlanta metro had a population of 2.9m and Greater Boston a population of 4.1m
In 2020 Atlanta metro had a population of 6.1m and Greater Boston a population of 4.9m

Won't be Dallas

Real chance now Bill has coached his last football game if he's not the Falcons coach or willing to work for Tepper, don't think any other team will be interested.

Washington going younger with analytics, don't see a fit in Seattle or Tennessee either.

I don't think 71-year-old Bill Belichick has twenty years to replicate in Atlanta what he did in New England.

QBs can be acquired. At least, if the owner is on board with that idea.
It's not that simple. Above average QBs are not always available. And if they are, the price can be extremely expensive. Easier said than done.

You might be right. After Spanos fired Marty Schottenheimer who coached the Chargers to a 14-2 record in 2006, no team offered him a job. At that time, he was 63 years old and had a .613 winning percentage in the NFL, with 13 playoff appearances and only two losing seasons in twenty-one years of coaching. Age is a liability in the NFL.

Kirk cousins + bill + Atlanta with Bijan Robinson, Kyle pitts and drake london and jonnu is going to be insane .

That was so weird that he never got a job after - not necessarily the next year. If I remember correctly the knock on him was he sucked in playoff games. I think he won 1 or 2.

So far these teams are IN or OUT on Bill.

Chargers: OUT
Commanders: OUT
Raiders: OUT
Eagles: OUT
Seahawks: OUT
Atlanta: IN (conducted 7 interviews incl. Harbaugh)

TBD:
Titans: most likely OUT
Panthers: maybe
Cowboys: ???
I said 4-5 teams max would be interested in him when many were saying he would have lots of options.

People underestimate the egos involved in the NFL. Few GMs would want Bill because he would take their power. Few owners would want Bill over their established GMs because of age and his GM track record is not good at least last decade or so.

I am surprised that it seems his options are even fewer though.

The best thing BB could do is just to retire. His style of coaching is outdated (expecting unquestioned fealty) and would not go over well with players nowadays who are a lot more individualist than they were 20 years ago.

He got away with a lot of things because he was winning hand over fist. He would have no such latitude, anymore.

Most owners suck at picking head coaches, which is why most of these teams are looking for new head coaches. Then there are other dumb decisions, like firing a good HC to appease a GM who is likely in over his head (Tenn) and keeping a HC who will never take your team to the SB and who just suffered one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history (Dallas). If Bill doesn’t get a head coaching job, it’s not because the game has passed him by as a coach. That’s moronic. It’s because owners are just repeating their dumb decisions of the past.

We also don’t know if other interviews have taken place under the radar. That goes for Vrabel as well. I haven’t heard about any interviews involving him. Unless he has declined the interviews, most of these teams should be aggressively pursuing him.

Which kinda puts into perspective how unrealistic the prospect of trading Bill was. The market isn't there and it might turn out that the Falcons were the only serious team in the conversation and they just needed to wait until we let him go.

That’s why I think Bill is going to retire.

Basically these teams would be getting a “rental” with Bill. What’s in it for them? Bill will break the record and then probably call it a career after that. How can those teams have a vision and plan for long term success with a 71 year old coach who plans to step away sooner than later.
