Mayo's Intoductory Press Conference

We're going in circles. It matters to HIM but does it matter to WINNING?
No one here ever said it had to do with winning. You made that implication and put words in Jerod’s mouth and other posters mouths.

Mayo is allowed to use the platform to make a comment on diversity. He doesn’t need to shut up about it and only ever talk about what he is going to do to win. He already talked about those things during the conference as well.

Your take on it just reminds me of the whole “shut up and dribble” thing.

Your read on me is incorrect because you lack tolerance.

I understand. It's my way or the highway with most people and that's a hard wall to tear down but I know if you work hard at it, you will find a way to understand others without prejudice and making baseless presumptions just cause you disagree with their take.

Good luck.

It's far too predictable which posters will take issue with Mayo bringing up diversity and being a black HC. In an otherwise benign press conference, it's not difficult to see why certain people will be agitated about it. Trigger-some stuff from Mayo.

Its relevant to him and relevant to many black players. Learn to deal with reality, bud.
The thought process involved in feeling so triggered about someone being proud to accomplish something so significant - especially for someone of his background - is so ugly.

It shouldn't be. Winning should be relevant.
It is 100% relevant for his announcement which is in part a celebration of his achievement of being 1 of 32. That's a big deal and even bigger deal when said person is a minority.

I rememebr watching a documentary on Lombardi and they made a comment about how it was such a big deal for an Italian American to be a HC in the NFL. That was wild to me (was in 2000s when I was in early 20s) but back then it was.

Hopefully we get to a world where that does not become such a big deal. Until then it is worth celebrating and promoting the message because that is how we as a society get better.

Now if he keeps talking about race every single press conference I will be the first to complain. But for now it is worth mentioning.

Remember earlier when you said I was projecting? Congratulations, you’ve finally found an appropriate example with yourself.

Someone has a hard time with parody and sarcasm.

Nevermind. I thought I was feeing with a intellect.

Come on now. The guy just went to a press conference where he knew all the media would be. It was just a PR move. Don’t need balls to assist a press conference. What would happen? All the media screaming at him « you suck » ?

He just trying to get in the new coach good books because he knows his place in the team isn’t guaranteed.

If Mac Jones is the starter next year then you’ll know right away that Mayo will not be long for HC
We disagree on this one.

It was the right thing to do…the 2 foot putt you just make.

And IF (BIG IF) he is the starting QB next year, I believe it will be because a NEW and OUTSIDE OC objectively looked at the scheme, ingredients, and whatever Mac does from day 1 with him and decided he earned it.

If that all happens, I’ll pull for him.

Do I believe any of that is likely?

No.

More likely Jacoby Brissette starts, and we have a Nix or Rattler on the bench watching.

I’d not heard that. Honestly forgot that anti-Italian sentiment had even been a thing. Seems unbelievable now.

Hopefully race DOES become a non-issue with future generations.

But that day is not today.

Yes that’s the right thing to do if you are a guy who was relegated to the 3rd QB last year and you want to look good in front of the next HC.

It had nothing to do about balls or leadership. Just a guy moving his pawn trying to keep his job.

I hope that Mayo will not be as easily convinced as you because Mac Jones keeping his job would be a disaster for Mayo and the franchise.

The DEI guy might as well mention why he got the job.

It sure wasn’t his resume ……

Kraft confirms they will appoint a decision maker before any signings and draft picks need to be made... And they will do outside interviews. That is good.
After hearing the whole presser
Kraft kept referring to his 50 years in business in which they liked to promote from within
I think they will do outside interviews but his mind is made up on Groh/Wolf

Come to think of it - isn't it against league policy for Mac, Uche and Cardona to be in the team facility at this point in the season?
Are you giving them ideas to take away our 3rd pick?

The Press Conf did not help my view of the hire, but it didn’t hurt it either. I chuckled at some parts, cringed at others (calling your boss “Thunder” is a little much for me).

BUT….

Mayo is dead on that you can’t lead players today the way you did 20 years ago, or even 10.

I believe that fact alone was more responsible for BB’s slow demise and the whole “only wants players he likes” narrative than anything else.

I believe he wanted to find old-school mentality, “yessir, whatever you say sir” players which just don’t exist much these days.

This is true in business also.

Under 30 folks want to feel understood, and they want to understand WHY you ask them to do something. There is a pervasive base-level distrust of authority which has to be overcome before you can get the best out of them.

We can rail against it, or understand that it’s the world today and adjust.

Happened to Tom Coughlin WAY before it did Bill so he held on a lot longer than anyone else.
IMO Brady being so respectful of authority even after he became an elite multiple SBs winner is actually even more amazing than finding him in the 6th round.

I cannot think of any other all time player who would have put up with that. I am not even saying this as a critism of Bill either.

He has ALWAYS sounded like that.
He has become much worse over the last 5 or so years. Normal with his age but still sad to see. Time waits for noone.

I don’t see this at all.
That is great about having a democracy in the USA: we can have different opinions. Don't you agree? Be careful who you vote for. The Kraft family will not be voting for a democracy. They will be voting for a dictatorship. Their Palm Beach friend who set Robert up with the Chinese owner of the massage parlor so, you know the rest.

Listening to the clip, it sounds to me like he is saying “we are taking a QB….. duh”

Guessing the personnel dept likes Maye and Daniels a lot and will take either

Assuming it is Daniels, his rushing ability will help keep defenses from being as blitz-heavy, so perhaps your OL doesn’t need to be quite as incredible as it might have to be for more of a pure pocket passer. If they take Daniels, grab a tackle with their second pick, and sign guys like Michael Pittman Jr and Dalton Schultz in free agency, they’ve got potential to be solid. Pair that with a great defense…

You mustn't have visited Boston in the last 20+ years.
A lot of proffessional athletes openly talk about playing in Boston (mostly as a visiting player) in the context of the most racist staiums/arenas they ever played at in the US.

Please don't ban me people. Just restating something a lot of athletes have said in the past.
