According to the NFL Network, the Patriots requested permission to interview Falcons special teams coach Marquice Williams for their special teams coordinator job.

This isn’t the first request for Williams. The New York Giants requested to interview the coach, but that request was blocked by the Falcons. Atlanta is currently searching for a new head coach and Williams could have a role depending on who takes the job.

so if blocked; do you still get Rooney-rule credit?
Or does a 2d request get harder for team to convince the NYJFL to sustain the block?

statistically the guy doesn’t seem all that (does have a bunch of one-off achievements); but at this point ANYTHING BUT ACHORD sounds good.

I find this a little odd. I do support being able to retain your own talent, but doesn't blocking a minority coach from a promotion seem at odds with the program?

O’Brien getting a mulligan from so many here is wild. The only way the offense could have been less potent is if they were intentionally trying to suck. Their 2023 offense was historically bad and unwatchable. Regardless of the subpar talent, the coordinator of an unit that was so deserving of the mocking and ridicule that it received should not just be handed the keys the following year without the deepest of dives into his role in the debacle. All we (the fans) have are reports from anonymous sources (who likely have their own agenda) laying most of the blame at the feet of the ex-head coach.

The story is BB removed his balls, brain, and will to live, but never fear; the Kraft Surgical Team will swiftly restore them.

I wouldn’t bring back one offensive coach from last year.
Need fresh minds, fresh system.

Its not a promotion its a lateral move

I understand the idea of criticizing Troy as being under qualified, or product of nepotism.

But, no one was complaining when KB was excelling, or Meyers improving each year. It was always blamed on bad FA deals, and drafting/importing the wrong WR's. Because Pats WR struggles have gone on since 2004, long before Brown was WR coach.
So, hard to say if Brown sucks, or WR's do... This year, I think it's fair to say it was the personnel.
We all knew Parker was old, JSS is done, TT is busted, Pop & Boutte rookies, Reagor a late addition.
KB was the only legit starter, and played like it until he got hurt.
Meyers actually stagnated when Brown became the coach - and Bourne was already good before he got here, he learned in SF.

I’d prefer a new Oc or Mcdaniels, The offense was so bad I’m terrified to put a rookie QB with any of that staff.
staff? You do understand that BOB wasn't allowed to hire his staff except for bringing in one assistant as the TE coach..

Why are people so concerned about Jonathan taking a larger role from here on?
Sounds like Bobby is behind a lot of the recent issues the last 4 years.
The only reason he was "great" during the 2 dynasties is because he didn't do anything - BB ran it all.
Because people are worried that Jonathan will be Jones-ish or Snyder-ish in terms of being a buttinsky to football operations.

True, but Arthur Smith was fired, so he doesn’t know if he will have a job at all in 3 weeks. What’s the likelihood that Atlanta’s next Head Coach will come in and decide to keep him as the ST Coordinator instead of bringing in a different guy he likes?

If it's a head coach we all know very well then hopefully he'll poach Cam Achord from the Pats. Please.

It’s reasonable to request permission to interview. As the Falcons get further into HC interviews, it should quickly become apparent whether any of their top candidates intend to keep him. The answer in this situation is almost always no.

And/or Joe Judge.
I would expect Bill to take both Judge and Achord. In any case, they won't be coaching for us. Mayo is already interviewing for Achord's replacement.

Some options for young "outside-NE" OC's (with Pats history) :

Zac Robinson - Pass game Coord. - Rams
Wes Welker - WR's coach - Dolphins
Nick Caley - TE coach - Rams
Bo Hardegree - interim OC - Raiders
Charlie Weis Jr. - OC - Ole Miss
Chad O'Shea - WR's/Pass game Coord - Browns
