Schefter: Bill Belichick & Patriots to Part Ways

I’m glad I’m seeing some of you admitting you’re not really fans of the team but loyal subjects of the emperor. It’s been obvious for years that’s many posters here but good to see it confirmed.
They're the same people who said I along many others weren't real Patriot fans for rooting for Tom to succeed (just like I'll root for BB to succeed) and we are still around

I only root for one team in the NFL, I could see myself eventually giving up on the NFL, but never switching my loyalties to another team.

That said I would love to see BB win a SB with another team, just to prove his naysayers wrong.

Too many Pats fans come across to me as entitled, and they need a reality check.
Yeah. Keep that same energy when the next coach has an equally mediocre 4 years. Be ready to call everyone entitled when we want to move on.

Some of you are prisoners of the past and don't have a clue what other franchises have been dealing with for the last 23 years. You don't get to be Marvin Lewis and be a mediocre HC for 15 years. You gotta put up wins or get out.

Goodbye New England fans, I'm out as a fan, heck I'm out as a football NFL fan with the whole NFL going dumb and woke pushing unbiblical ideas with their sodomite dancers, end racism myths, fake prosperity, virtue signalling, was a fun ride, I was just here cuz I respected the coach, 9 superbowls in 20 years and you let him go cuz you bended to the woke mob that hates BB.......sayonara have fun with the sodomites in woke Massashitets
Well, certainly one of the strangest posts I’ve ever read here. Best of luck on your travels to whatever paradise you’re into.

"Was" isn't "is." 2001 Belichick wasn't filling his staff with trash dorks like 2022 vintage Matt Patricia. He's been losing the plot in ever more egregious ways for the last couple years.

If the Pats are not in contention for winning a Super Bowl, I will root for Belichick to get. Did the same with Brady.

I think Belichick can potentially win another team if he goes somewhere where most of the pieces are in place. I could see him winning one if he goes to Dallas or maybe the Chargers. I think he can rebuild the Chargers' defense and they have all the pieces on offense. I don't think he can do it with Atlanta or Washington. Not if he is shopping for the groceries.

I'm so upset right now I want to change my avatar to the QB of Bill's new team and change my board name to HOODIE_8_RINGS

Yeah, I mean, you don’t know that’s true at all. Belichick could easily choose to work 5+ years.

Belichick could coach another entire decade and he’d be the same age as the President of the United States- the most demanding job in the world.

None of us know Belichick or what’s going through his head.
I just don't see him coaching anywhere else. It takes a lot of energy to start from scratch in a new city where you don't have the built-in infrastructure he developed here for 24+ years. He wasn't able to succeed here the last 4 years, in a place where he had 100% control of everything and had built the foundation and gravitas of his system.

Do you think its just a coincidence that 3 HCs in their 70s were let go (retire/part ways) by the teams, where they were the best HC in that teams history, in the last 2 days?

There's now only one HC in their 70s left in college (Mack Brown) football and the NFL.

We don't know if Owenu is even going to resign here. There was talk about David Andrews retiring after this season. How much longer do you think he is sticking around at age 32 next season? Sow and Strange are decent. They aren't anything special yet. And we have no idea what Jake Andrews is.

And you act like it is easy to get a solid QB, LT, or WR. It is extremely hard to get just one of them. The Pats need all three. That is at least two to three drafts to fill those needs. And who wants Belichick drafting or signing a WR?

And if Vrabel or Mayo can bring what Belichick brought on defense and are willing to modernize the offense and make it more of an emphasis, we may have a far better head coach for the times than Belichick.
What are we talking about here?

If Vrabel/Mayo don't have a QB, WR and LT, the season will be very bad.

I wrote we need to get these things.

Kraft went over two decades without interfering with football decisions. He let Belichick make Patricia the OC even though he was vocal that he thought it was a dumb idea. He isn't a meddling owner. Stop pretending that he is.
From the Brady stuff to O'Brien to Mac Jones, he has been meddling.

QB, LT, WR. Those are the 3 positions. Onwenu, Andrews x2, Sow and Strange make for a good OL if you can get a QB and a LT.

The defense is built the way great Belichick defenses of the past have been built. A lot of talent everywhere, a lot of good players, they mesh well and work as a unit. Great depth.

We're thinking of hiring a guy (and I hope we do, either Vrabel or Mayo) who epitomized this kind of defense.
Really? Andrew’s is close to needing to retire, strange has been hurt or average. Who knows on Sow and Onwenu is unsigned.

If the Patriots don't sign Onwenu, they are going to be in awful shape.

Sow did extremely well for a rookie and Strange is a lot better than this board makes out.

Andrews the younger by the way looked good; he's a load and not easily pushed back.

David Andrews said he's coming back in a press conference.

I will be rooting for Bill to succeed the same way I did with Brady. What a run it was and I hope he has some success wherever he lands (unless it's the Jets) because I really don't want to see his career end with a whimper.

You got BDE

I think Strange gets a worse rep than he should because of where he was taken, but he was steadily improving this year before his injury. Put a LT next to him that consistently gives a ****, and I'll bet he'll look even better.

The tricky part of the OL this offseason is that there aren't a lot of good free agents, and they probably need both a starting LT and a quality swing guy (even assuming they re-sign Onwenu to play RT). That means if you're also hoping to get a new QB, you're definitely using your 1st and 2nd round picks on those specifically, and hoping both work out. It's not going to be easy to address both in one draft without getting at least a little bit lucky.

?

I don't think free agents were lining up around the block for the chance to be coached by BB. As with all else, it's about the money
The Patriots and Belichick will likely be interested in the same players, meaning players will be able to pit them against each other financially.

Andrew’s is coming back but really up there in age especially for a player that achieves above his physical skills. The others are guards.

For anybody saying this was a bad decision. Belichick is 71. It was time. Even if we kept him this season how much longer does he have coaching anyway?

I’d like to see him go to the Cowboys or another contender.

The Pats are not going to be good for several years no matter who the coach is. In fact, I fear Belichick would go for the quicker fixes that would turn the Patriots into the Steelers (a perpetual borderline playoff team that will do nothing in the playoffs). I expect the Pats to be a bottom tier team next year even if they hit on a QB at #3. This is a rebuild. It is going to take time for the Pats to get back into contention.
