Ty Law shares what he thinks Patriots should do with No. 3 pick

I don't see an Andrew Luck where you know he's not gonna be a bust. Lawrence, for as much hype as he got entering the draft looks like a mediocre QB. The other QBs in the first round in his class are WOAT picks.

Build the team inside out. Build your trenches like the Cowboys and the Eagles have done. The Cowboys turnaround finally started happening when Jerry decided to use his picks on linemen and not shiny toys.

Without a good OL, our QB and skill players are going to be useless.

For me I would take JAG when he is released, draft an OT sign Nix in the 2nd, another OT in the 3rd, a TE in the 4th and best available at the rest. I didn't think Maye or Williams looked very good this season, never saw Daniels but like his height. But I have no idea how to evaluate anybody.

This isn’t complicated. If you aren’t in love with the QB at 3 you take MHJ. One guy isn’t going to turn the entire line around. A top WR or QB will have a greater impact
One blue chipper LT will be a huge step in turning line around. Success rate with elite ITs has been higher than QBs chosen that high in ghe draft

I'm with Ty law on this give MH Jr or give me death.

spend all the draft picks and all the money on the best offensive line ever. doesn't matter who you have at that point. just stand and wait. infact they should try to get Brick Wall, The Concrete That Reinforces The Pentagon, and The Stuff They Put Around Nuclear Facilities To Prevent Any Damage From an Airplane Crash. All have great measurables.

Guys, it's a universal certainty - if BB stays, we CANNOT draft MHJ or any other WR in the top 2 rounds. They WILL BUST.
If we have a new HC, then its worth testing the curse. But otherwise, it won't work.
Trade down 6-10 spots - take OT Alt or TE Bowers & Nix at bottom 1st.

And the Qb on his back

If they don’t take QB then it won’t matter if the QB is “ on his back,” because these QB’s can’t do **** when they are upright. And the free agent scrubs aren’t much better, The bottom line for me is if they don’t address QB with their first pick then you can write at least 2024 off completely, and probably the next few years.

Trade 3 to chargers get their second round pick. Get Joe alt at 5 , and with two second rounders get the best wr and the best remaining OT . Use the remaining rounds for TE , pass catching back , Developmental QB and a CB.

Sign russell wilson . If he stinks , we can draft QB early next year when ewers declares.

Fwiw, Ty Law is my all time fav patriot. Imo, an elite linemen is the safe choice. Keyword is elite.

I think the 49ers are the exception but all the other playoff teams have a legit QB. As a fan given the choice give me the QB. Teams have searched for years trying to find a franchise guy. You can always get a good wide receiver in free agency. A franchise QB that's very rare.
Purdy isn’t legit? When has he shown he’s anything but?

Hopfeully the Patriots are not drafting this high for a very long time. The last time they drafted this high was Drew Bledsoe in 1993.

It's been 30 years.

You have to take a QB -- if you believe the ones who are still there are the right guys.

If you're 50/50 on it and think he could be another Mac, possibly, then I'd take Harrison.

But Williams is your Pro Bowl franchise QB in this draft, he does unbelievable things out there. He scans the field and can see it all. If he's there, you definitely take him.

We need an LT. But... a QB makes your offensive line more than is given credit here. A QB who can threaten the boundary allows the offense to spread and prervents defenders from bunching up. The middle of the field isn't clogged either. In both pass blocking and in the running game, a QB who threatens you on every part of the field helps the OL look stellar.

We have already invested an incredible amount of draft resources on the OL and if we sign Onwenu, we only need a LT. Between Andrews x2, Onwenu, Sow and Strange, and hopefully a 2nd round LT, that could be one of the best OLs in the league if the QB is the type to threaten the defense.

So for me, QB unless you don't believe in the guy, and at that point, Harrison.

If you draft MHJ with no prospects for a QB you’re essentially drafting an all world talent who’s going to be 2-3 years into his run with the team while you hope you’ve found the right QB somewhere down the line, and then you need to pay him

What makes you think there will be a third QB sitting there who will change your scenario? QB is the easiest bust pick to make.

I did indeed. Up and down, like the rest of the Denver year. He can still play.
You'll find as many bust 1st round WRs as bust QBs in the last decade.

It's a 50/50 proposition in both cases

2013-2022 drafts:

15 stud WRs taken to 22 bust WRs. I have 4 as marginal picks at this point: Davante Parker, Marquise Brown, Jerry Jeudy, Jameson Williams

13 franchise QBs to 20 busts (or non-franchise QBs, includes Tedy Bridgewater).

The percentage of hitting on your pick is around 40%.

You could try to sign Kirk Cousins.

Or, trade for Fields.

I have no expectation of MHJ busting. He’s got every tool, runs great routes, and the pedigree is for real.

He and Joe Alt look like the surest picks in the draft to me.

I'm just responding to this idea that QBs bust more than others.

You're stuck with a QB for at least 3 years picking 3rd.

You cannot just bench him if the season goes South. Look at Corky Jones at 15? BB had to play him until there was point in doing so anymore. Bledsoe was nothing but controversial always missing 1 last component to win.

"You might find a quarterback in the 4th round."

In the last 25 years, only 8 out of 221 QB draft picks after the first round have secured their team's QB role for more than a couple years, and three of those guys are tottering (Geno Smith, Hurts, Purdy).

The others are Brady, Brees, Carr, Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott.
This is the key word in the article to me. "Might" isn't good enough to pass up your QB imo.

Keep in mind too, if Prescott, Lamar, etc were graded higher, they are on different teams right now. That is different from NEP who just need to pick a QB at three. They don't need too wait for their guy or move up.

All these late round guys seem to have great surroundings. Where everything is at their disposal. In a cap world, that isn't sustainable.

Top three guys have way higher ceilings than Jones.
