A Toast to Bill Belichick

Grier was destroyed on boards like this. He was hated with an absolute passion. I guess it wasn't very different than other teams who hate their GMs, but this is a problem and situation New England hasn't had in 23 years. So when a GM takes over and they are in total control, we're going to get a taste for the kind of criticism Grier was subjected to for 4 years.
I see. I'm always one for learning new things. I feel like I have alot of football knowledge but I enjoy hearing new information on things inside the organization. Especially in the 90s and early 2ks with no social media like today.

It's impossible to say what would've happened in 01 but Bledsoe started in the win over the Steelers. That was really all defense and special teams that day.

The Super Bowl was really just 2 offensive drives at the end of each half and nothing much else from the offense.

I think Bledsoe could've managed that
Sure, plus the inevitable 1 or 2 INTs that would have flipped the outcome the other way.

Drew didn't start in the AFCCG that was TB12 starting with Drew replacing him. Brady still had a better rating, more yards passing and a better yards per attempt.

That's the high ankle sprain Brady had right?

I remember Drew taking a hit in that AFCCG that looked like the Mo Lewis hit but this time he got up right away and one guy on the sidelines ran over all fired up for him seeing that. That guy was Tom Brady. Great stuff.

It was an ankle injury but I can't recall exactly what it was. 07 was his high ankle sprain.

We all know Kermit would get his own special narrative if that happened to him.

Yep. Like last year he had the ankle Injury in the AFCCG remember?

As good as Carroll is, he never had the respect of his team here. He didn't have their respect in Seattle either. I've seen many of his players disrespect him, not just Marshawn.

Seattle's GM is a master, Carroll has squandered a lot of great talent.

This is the difference to look for in any regime change. Respect, discipline. Remember when Belichick was talking to Brady on the sidelines of the '09 late season loss to the Saints? They went 10-6 that year. He told Brady he had lost the team and couldn't get through to them. That was the year of Adalius Thomas acting like a big doofus.

Discipline is the first thing to look for. Do I believe the Patriots lost the 2017 Super Bowl because we didn't play Malcolm Butler? Yes. But I can't tell you how many other Super Bowls we would've lost if players weren't held accountable. The NFL is full of players drinking, going to brothels, into the wee morning hours before a Super Bowl. Some of these stories are well known. Without discipline, we may be Carroll's Seahawks.

It's an impossible thing to measure, there's no way to say how many wins and losses it causes, but you'll know it when you see it.

That doesn't mean Belichick is infallible. I still think his decision to bench Welker for a quarter lost us the playoff game against the Jets.

Exactly right ??. Owners care about $$$ they have to keep the season ticket holder and most definitely sponsors happy..
Kraft had big plans for Germany.

Orchid Day Spas on every corner.

There's not enough noise he's leaving - just media speculation/agenda. The team hanging around in games recently makes it even more difficult for Bob to pull the plug. If the players didn't like Bill, this season would've been the time to throw him under the bus to get him out. But it didn't happen. It also doesn't help that Saleh is staying with a rival division team with 6 blowout losses this season and his 3rd straight 10+ loss season.

2009 at saints we got blown out. Discipline absolutely is important bills message is translated to the locker room and on the field by the leaders. We've been fortunate to be blessed with som great leaders over the years. Yes that season springs, Thomas, randy, burgess, the Discipline was bad and we started to see signs that the locker room was an issue. Coincidentally that pre season is when bruschi retired

I like this. Basically, a BB appreciation thread. I thought we had one already but it is gameday. Last one for the Lord of the Rings.
Thanks for everything Bill. The good and the bad. For not saying much over the past 20+ years you've said a lot and kept the talking heads from never shutting up.
And if it's not too much to ask, I hope we get the second overall pick. I could care less if we beat the Jets at this point. The season has been full of disappointment so throw that cherry on top. I know you hate the NYJ and don't want to gift us a top 2 pick on your way out so you may be forgiven only if the top 3 picks bust.
Now to get that damn Shula record. 30 more wins. We know you crushed it in the playoffs and that record (31!!) will not be broken in my lifetime.
Good stuff Bill. Good stuff.
Good bye and good luck!

Bobby Grier was here he was a personnel guy early on as it's said Bill didn't have "total control " early on. Bobby Grier is the one responsible for getting Brady.
Then why was **** Rehbien begging Belichick to take Brady?

Man, I don’t know; I want him to stay, but I think it’s over. Reiss said this morning that he’s hearing Belichick is closer to be fired than staying. Bruschi said he’s hearing the same thing.

It hurts me to say it, and I think it’s a mistake, but it’s over.

I'm critical of Bill but I still acknowledge his strengths and what he brought

The butler pick was a play that Belichick, butler and browning practiced, so Bill deserves a lot credit for it.

Same with the 2018 rams gameplan, he did a great job there. He also always showed a great understanding of the little details throughout his time. Dude loved football

I think he will retire tbh.

The Herald article was someone close to the Krafts in management clearing off the runway.

Great point about Bruschi.
