Why has Bill the GM been so poor the past decade?

I don't recall specifically when it started, but there has been a ton of brain drain in the Patriots front office and behind the scenes in Foxboro. BB's intelligentsia infrastructure has enjoyed little continuity, especially recently. Dimitroff left in 2008, Ossenfort left in 2020, Caserio and Ernie Adams in 2021 and Zeigler in 2022. Of course, before that you had Scott Pioli and others. When an organization is successful, people leave for greater opportunities. This has been a big part of BB's troubles as de facto GM.

With a great QB this roster is plenty good enough and has been in 2021, 2022 and this season.

They wasted time and resources developing a QB who peaked 3/4’s of the way through his rookie season.

You can’t dwell on past mistakes, you fix them. Go find a QB.

If Shanahan and Lynch don’t find Brock Purdy there’s a good chance they’re both fired… instead they look like geniuses.

Find your QB, continue to build both lines.

Yess a lot of us realize that years ago Harry over A.J. Brown... Tyquan Thornton over George Pickens. Not to mention the numerous Second Round CB Busts plus Cole Strange a bizarre First Rounder. BB doesn't have a QB to cover up his Draft blunders I don't want him within Two Thousand Miles of our next Draft.
Agreed! Of all those bust. The one that he can't overcome is the QB.

That said, this team has talent. The problem is the talent is so marred by horrendous QB play that it has no shot to stand out or produce. I remember watching a 2001 highleight where Vinatieri was being called a kid from the midwest by the commentator. He did not all of a suddent become great in 2001. He just finally had the opportunity to shine on a winning team with important kicks.
Who on offense right now would you build your team around going forward?

The organization in 19 seasons never had to have the burden of worrying about a QB like many other teams have. This is unfamiliar territory to them. From RK down to the scouts they need to correctly identify the guy, and put players around that guy. Brady isn't here. They need to stop running the Brady patriots offense. That offense was owned and adopted by the GOAT to precision. We the fans have had the joys of 19 seasons of excellence, and 3 seasons of being stuck in mud. The longer we go without a QB the more painful this team with be to watch, sponsors will back out and we'll have to watch games on YouTube.

The BB way has run its course.

Looking forward to the new A.B. era in 2024

(A.B is not Antonio Brown it's "After Belichick")

Agreed. Everything has an end date. Game 17 will be the end date for the BB era.

Two very running backs, two very good tight ends. 4 good o linemen. Hard to know anything about the wr's because the qb sucks ass.
Zeke isn't coming back. Rham probably will get paid elsewhere.

Their Oline isn't good. I know everyone gets captivated by Brown's size but if/when BB leaves, he might too (wouldn't be the first time). Andrews is getting old. And he might be at the point of his career to just hang it up rather than dealing with a whole new QB situation (again) and perhaps a whole new offensive scheme.

The loss of Ernie Adams cannot be understated IMO.

Nothing lasts forever. It was going to happen eventually so if the team needs a reset and they do it's a perfect time for a change.
Yes, we just never envisioned it would look this badly. I couldn't even fathom it would be this wretched. We know we were weren't winning any Superbowls anytime but to be 2-9 and look so bad. I am as a fan looking forward to the new and improved patriots next season.

The Lions run the same offense with Goff, who is merely “good” at best. It’s not the system, it’s the player.

Our defensive rankings in points allowed (PPD) since 2021: 2nd best, 3rd best and currently 11th with the single best player on our team (Judon) and top two CB’s besides Jon Jones out.

Find a QB, it doesn’t take some genius team builder to diagnose the problem. With a great QB they’d have been competing since 2021… they missed, but they took a shot. Try again…

Agreed. The defense hasn't been the issue, it's the patriots system, Charlie Weiss came on WEEI, and said that Mac was drafted, becuase he had Brady like traits, and that he could run the offense and they would not have to deviate from it like they did with Cam. The real patriots offense always consists of a 3rdown back, slot WR, we had the QB in Brady to make it all look seamless.

He missed several game winning kicks during the 1999 season which got Carroll fired. One against KC and two against Buffalo. They would’ve been 10-6 and traveled to Seattle for the Wild Card game.

Chris Simms has said during his only year in the front office in 2012 that Bill purposely passed on the more talented players because a less talented player is more likely to listen to his message.

Damien Woody has also said during his ESPN gig that Bill didn’t care if a draft pick didn’t work out as he’d find somebody else.

It’s not the system, Mac sucks.

Goff is good, Brady is great… numerous teams run the Earnhardt Perkins system. Find a QB.

What I'm trying to say it that's what the patriots mindset was when drafting Mac.. as Weiss went on to say they liked him because he reminded them if Brady, and they would not have to alter thier offensive system. We know now what Mac and Zapp both are. The next guy they will have too go based on his talents and not this system that only works for the GOAT that he adopted. The system only works when you have the guys. They don't!

I noticed BB did that in 2012.. while the GOAT was still here. BB likely felt he could do anything to experiment on offense when you have the GOAT. Interesting..
