Is it possible Bill can save his job by benching Mac Jones and blaming the season on him?

To save his job you don’t think it’s possible he will bench Mac Jones and try to make it seem like he couldn’t win with him? Or will Bill go down with the ship
Come on now. Bill picked this roster, so even if he tries to pin the failures on a player he is the guy who built the roster.

The Krafts aren’t dumb. They can see how bad this roster is. After a decade of bad drafting how do they sell the fan base that Bill comes back to re-start the rebuild?

This could piss a lot of people off, but I could see Bill cooperating for the sake of his sons and allows a GM to come in if Kraft gives him that ultimatum. I don’t see Bill wanting to finish his career anywhere else.
Won’t happen. Bill’s fingerprints are all over the organization. How could anyone come in with Bill still here? It’s his scouting staff, it’s his coaching staff, it’s his players. There’s no way the Krafts can put someone else in with Bill still here. Bill’s influence runs throughout the organization. It just wouldn’t work and wouldn’t be fair to the incoming GM. Has to be a clean start.

A little mea culpa stuff from Bill would go a long way in placating his critics. Maybe some self-awareness and promises to bring in some oversight and mix things up, but he’s going to continue to act arrogant and triple down on his on his coaching cult and philosophy, which is why he must go, and deserves no more extra leeway.

I hear ya, but a mea culpa ain’t gonna do ****. His drafting has sucked for a decade and we are 2-8 because our roster is lacking talent. Blow it up.

lol, he's like 900 years old and has been this way since he came into the league. He ain't changing now for anyone. It won't be the main reason he "retires" but it's probably one of the factors going into the decision.

No way, he’s never spoke ill of anyone I can think of. Maybe opposing players like Freddie Mitchell. Even if you disagree with the Butler benching you can’t find a quote where he talked bad about him. Jack Jones? Aaron Hernandez? Asante Samuel? Zip out of Bill. At least to the public.

It’s always been WE. We didn’t coach well, we didn’t execute. He’ll never bend or break on this line of thinking.

Bad drafting for a decade and yet he won three super bowls during that time. Must be a hell of a coach then.
He was, Can’t think of another coach that took away what the other team liked to do better than he did. People are going to miss his innovative game plans more than they know. If Mac was above average we wouldn’t be even having this conversation with some people.

Great coaches need great qb’s in todays game.

Not to difficult to understand.

Brady + the players drafted before 2013 (Gronk, McCourty, Edelman, Hightower, Jones, etc) + FA’s like Revis, Gilmore had the biggest impact during those years.

The drafts from the last decade has left this team with a severe lack of talent, especially on O.

Belichick's and Mac's fates this year was always intertwined. If one failed miserably, so would the other ones. If Belichick ever planned to use Mac as a scapegoat, it was a foolish plan. Replacing Mac isn't going to all the sudden make the o-line block or the receiver run good routes or get open.

If the Pats had Brady in his prime, this offense would look like the 2019 offense at best. And that would only be if everything worked perfectly without all the stupid mistakes and sloppy play we have seen this year.

Mac is broken, but he is far from the only thing wrong with this offense. There is actually very little right. It took half the season for the Pats to even get the running game going.

Switching Mac with Zappe isn't going to fix this offense. In fact, it could end up being worse. Because if Belichick thought it would be better, he would have pulled Mac before yesterday with two minutes left in the game.

Not going to defend BB about all of his drafting as the draft is a crap shoot at best, #12 made chix salad out of chix crap for years and we all be came a lot spoiled.
Go back to the '21 draft Mac Jones was a highly touted prospect after Lawrence, Z. Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields and then Mac Jones @ #15, at that time most of us thought it was a great draft pick and during his initial season he showed potential he might be QB of the future..
Now in that 3rd season after that draft.. Z. Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields and now Mac Jones are all considered "draft busts" we are not alone in QB drafting misery..
Whatever metrics that BB and his inner circle applied to Jones was as bad as 3 of the 4 QB's drafted before him.

... then all that would prove is that Bill completely wasted this season because he can't evaluate QB talent.
BB been saying players make the biggest jump from year 1 to year 2. He didn’t see that with Mac, but some people (including the owner) thoughit that the jump didn’t happen due to bad coaching. He probably had no choice but to let it play out.

The buck stops with BB. That's the problem with having the level of control BB has. If it works, you're a genius! If not, it's all on you.

It's not like the moved up to get him. BB did what he always did he sat back and waited to see shook out of the Top 10 instead of being aggressive. I bet he would have been content with Cam for another season if no top QB's came down to the 15th pick.

You dont even watch the games.

The OL blocks and your nephew Mac throws a horrendous INT right on the numbers. You expect the OL to block perfect 100% of the game and when they dont (which no OL does) its the reason why nephew Mac loses. Yesterday I watched your nephew take a sack when if he slide to the left nephew would have bought more time to pass. But NO, stand there like a dope and take another sack.

How many game threads do you need to read before you admit that WRs, TEs and RBs are open, but nephew Mac doesnt see them because he does not look?

Brady would thrive with this roster.

Both TEs are studs that are underutilized. Pharaoh Brown has not dropped a pass. Douglas and Brady would be a dynamic duo. JuJu would not look this bad. He didnt look like 5hit last year with a real NFL QB throwing to him. No NFL defense fears Mac Jones.

Your nephew is not an NFL caliber QB.

The NE offense runs through the QB as does every team and we see the end product 2 years in a row. To date 10 wins - 17 losses with more losses on the menu.

BB does not want to resurrect the chants for new NE QB like last year.

The guy who spends the entire game day thread posting post after post blaming Jones for everything going wrong with this team is going to tell me I don’t watch the game.

So Lowe was benched because Jones was making him totally unable to handle Bruckner? Jones was sacked five times in the first half mostly because the line couldn’t block.

And Brady would not thrive in this offense. There are not two stud TEs. Henry is a good TE. Geisicki is a glorified receiver and other than Douglas, they have no receivers.

And I am not defending Mac. But if you cannot admit this is one of the least talented offenses in the league, you are living in a dream world.

Yes, the QB is the most important position on the team, but that doesn’t change the fact that this offense is devoid of talent. Brady couldn’t make chop liver out of this crap. This offense is worse than 2019 and Brady struggled down the stretch with that team.

Again, other QBs would do better with this offense, but they wouldn’t turn it into a good offense. It would still suck, but just much less.

But there isn’t a QB on the roster who is good enough to make the offense better. Zappe passed through waivers twice for a reason. Belichick cut him twice for a reason.

id love to have what you are smoking. anyone with eyes can see this roster is bad all over. brady would thrive with this roster? this would be arguably his worst collection of pass catchers in his career. we probably are 5-5 on the back of brady's greatness. but a team that would get trounced in the wildcard round just like we did in 2019.

this team is more than a "qb away" and its pure delusion to think otherwise.

I love BB and I have no respect for Kraft’s intelligence.

No. The answer is no.

BB is the greatest of all time and has had an amazing career as both a head coach and as a team builder. Intense, hard-working, brilliant, BB has changed the league in a number of ways - from defensive strategies to finding diamonds in the rough via the draft or trades. But, sadly, this collection of talent is worthy of moving on. If he had SF + Mac there’d be no issue. But this is Mac + Maclike talent on all levels.

I love me some BB but there is nothing left to be said but thank you and have a nice life.

He belittled Marv Levy as a coach when he was in Cleveland.
