Week 9: Other Games

I am not sure he has had a lot of last minute drives. He has had a lot of game winning drives, but they happened with plenty of time for the other team to score and couldn't.

Last nights game was not a last minute drive.

He has a game winning drive against the Chargers a few weeks back, but that drive ended with over seven minutes left.

His game winning drive against the Colts ended with 9:55 left on the clock.
See, that's what I mean. There is a set standard. If that GWD came with 15:01 left in the game it wouldn't have been a 4QC but would have been a GWD. And both would be correct.

Yeah, the standard applies to every game, but the standard sucks. Yes, odds are someone with 45 game winning drives is far more likely to have more clutch last minute game winners than someone with 25, but that isn't guaranteed.

But if you look at Pickett, he is a well below average QB who has a defense that keeps opposing offenses under 20 points in most games. Other than the Browns game this year (which the Steelers won on a defensive TD at the end of the game 26-22), Pickett has yet to win a game in his career where the opposing team scored more than 18 points.

I don't think he is clutch. I just think the Steelers win tight low scoring games where the Steelers just happen to score last.
I haven't seen Picket enough but I know that the man who cooks at my local diner is a big fan. Then again, he's a Steeler fan.

I understand that the rule isn't exactly perfect but I think we can glean enough from it to make an evaluation. Like, Aaron Rodgers wasn't Captain Comeback and wasn't even close. I know that from his small # of 4QCs.

Another area that causes some problems is who those comebacks are coming against. Before we went to the SB vs Atlanta I learned for the first time that Aaron Rodgers, incredibly, had no 4QCs against any team with a winning record at that time. That says a lot but the rule doesn't differentiate there either.

Funny someone posted a link here to a Steelers message board a few weeks back when the Steelers were playing like crap and people there were talking about Pickett the same way people here talk about Mac Jones. But let's face it, winning changes people's attitude about players.

I just don't know if Pickett is a guy who could come back from a real deficit and win a game. He can win games when the Steelers defense keeps it a close low scoring game, but I don't know if he could come back from a 14 point deficit in the fourth quarter like a real clutch QB could. Several of the games he has come from behind and won, the Steelers didn't score much more than 14 points the entire game with one they scored less.

The same is true for Jim Nants. I was too lazy to reach over to the remote so I listened to the game for a little bit. Nants still makes a ton of mistakes, talks over the action and should have retired years ago.
yo, burnt toast ain't cheap these days my man... and even the country club waitresses are wanting tips these days... guys gotta do what a guys gotta do...

Looking at the standings, even if Pats win and Raiders lose, they'll remain in the cellar. I doubt Colts lose to the awful Panthers.

The numbers in red are the SOS rankings for the remaining games. Both HOU and IND have some of the easiest remaining games. CLE and PIT aren't far behind. Pats are middle of the pack, as are the Jets.

I see the top 12 teams all jocking for a playoff spot, with the bottom 4 basically being out. Although anything is possible.

Adding SOS is pretty interesting, thanks. Pats do get the chance to get H2H tiebreakers over Indy/Pitt/NYJ/LAC/Denver as well. And 3 of their 6 losses are out-of-conference which helps a little, maybe.

At best, guys like Pickett and M. Jones will hit the Flacco Wall when they get a balloon contract, the rest of the team really sucks with limited resources, and the bottom falls out. Then we see they did actually suck all along.

You all will see how good Pickett is when Mac and Company play him later this season.

That's why I don't put any stock into the stat. They count any final scoring drive that comes from behind in the fourth quarter no matter when it happens in the fourth quarter as a game winning drive. And not all game winning drives are equal. Not even close.
That's your prerogative. To me, as a fan, it gives you the hope that you're never out of it. I have zero hope right now, when we're behind in the 4Q that we'll be able to come back regardless of when in the qtr it happens.

I see a lot of great QBs on the list. At least 3 more will be HOFers, making it 8 out of the top 10 leaders in that stat.

Correct, the stat is GWD, not last minute drive. It has to happen in the 4Q/OT since the game is divided into quarters not minutes.

All of his GWDs count since they resulted in the team winning the game because of it. Again, the drive resulted in the team winning the game, which is the only goal of the game, to win it.

You are talking about QBs who have had 15-20 year plus careers because they were elite. Pickett has played a year and a half and odds are he won't be starting for very much longer unless he improves quite a bit.

It counts, but not all GWDs are equal. There are plenty of games where neither team can do anything on defense and trade leads back and forth all game and the winner is just the team lucky enough to have the ball last with any meaningful time left and score. There are many different scenarios where a QB could have the GWD and there is nothing clutch about him getting it. That is just my point. Not all GWDs are when a QB is down by a score and is inside the two minute warning with no time outs left and drives the length of the field for a TD.

Daylight Savings change, a 9:30 am (or 10:30 for you people in Arizona and Hawaii), it's all too much for me!

Interesting to see which team travels best Miami or Kansas anyway , good to see a quality game at a descent time....lol

Another edition of " Stupid things people say".

I will be watching the crowd to see what proportion of the fans are Dolphins/Chiefs. I suspect this will be like London with all 32 teams represented.

LOL if this is score at some point with those stats… the rigged talk will be awesome
