Kayshon Boutte

BB is playing games with Boutte and it’s going to backfire. BB’s mental gymnastics is failing the team and individual players. IMO players are increasingly frustrated by his playing rules that hurt the team with his ever growing senile ego. He is failing the team.

OK, posters have different evaluation of a WR than do the coaches.

So?

The patriots have their top 4 WR's. They have chosen Reagor and Thornton over Boutte. Do you really disagree with that decision? I don't.

I really don't CARE who the patriots consider the #5 WR. In any case, I would only have four active. The other three are available for bid.

COULD having Reagor and Thornton ahead of Boutte on the depth chart going to backfire. I don't think so.
=====================
But let's be clear. How can considering Boutte as being at the bottom of the depth chart until after the break backfire on the patriots? For me, there are more important issues at WR. For now, I'd like to know whether we have anything in Thornton and/or Reagor.

We drafted Boutte as a hope for the future. I see absolutely nothing wrong with waiting and hoping for him to be a future contributor.

Even if both Parker and Shuster are traded next week, I would still expect Boutte to be inactive going forward.

Yeah but that thinking is wrong. At this point it’s not who is slotted at WR1 or WR100. What matters is who can produce. Forcing players like Parker and Bubu to play WR1 or 2 or whatever is a mistake. We have seen this. Play the younger players now who have a better chance of producing before BB beats them down with his playing rules.

So say we all. Play them now and play them often. Parker and Bubu are not the answer.

If players are inable to deal with the idea of moving up in the depth chart, they should be cut or traded. It really is that simple.

Belichick is not willing to give up on the current game, or on the season. BTW, all you are really are talking about is the fact that Parker is still getting reps. But your way of thinking would lead us to have an Offense where Bourne sits (make him inactive). NO WR other than Bourne and Douglas were really part of the Offense.

I have ZERO reason to have other than our top four receivers active and playing. For now, those four are Bourne, Douglas, Thornton and Reagor. I suppose that we shouldn't have acquired Reagor. If the coaches agree with you, they would have played Boutte as the 4th WR, and kept Parker and Shuster inactive.

And as we ALL must know, Parker is 3 or 4 receptions/misses away from moving ahead of Thornton or being made inactive.

I expect us to have a WR transaction after Sunday. I don't know what that will be. I suspect that Belichick doesn't know either.

I have great hope for Boutte. My position is that NOW is not his time.

Nobody on planet Earth is suggesting to not play Bourne...knock that off. He's 28 and producing. He's our best WR.

Dude...stop splitting hairs. We agree...and add Boutte.

Disagree. Now is the time more then ever.

You want to have 5 active WR's I don't.

Maybe it comes down to Tyquan and Boutte. Injuries may make that decision.
For now, we have

IMO, the WR depth chart is wide open. We have Bourne and Douglas (plus we have the 3 TE's and Stevenson)
==========================
TOP TWO: Bourne (56) and Douglas (37) get the most reps and almost all the receptions.

NEXT TWO: Parker (35) and Reagor (25) get lots of reps, but few receptions (1 each last week).

NEXT THREE: Thornton (3), Boutte, and Shuster are basically out of the picture for now. It seems that Thornton is active just in case BOB needs a Hail Mary downfield.

Bill played Juju/Parker over Douglas for 6 games of the season....so using the previous posters logic to defend Bill's decision making doesn't hold much water. when we needed an explosive playmaker, Bill decided to play juju/parker over him.

took him until week 6 to realize they need to play more bourne/douglas and phase out parker/juju.

not sure i'm sold on Thornton, but id rather see him out there instead of parker/juju. those 2 offer nothing to the team.

It's a bizarre take given Boutte's well publicized struggles in college. For 2 entire years and 2 different sets of coaches, he struggled. IN COLLEGE. He could not produce at LSU. He clearly needs to develop. This is the NFL. I know the SEC is a strong conference, but it's not the NFL.

It’s been mentioned often lately but it’s a coaching staff failure. Either stubbornness or it took 6 weeks to realize…either way it’s not acceptable.

Boutte was an elite WR at one point in college. Injuries and an attitude problem was his downfall. Both Boutte and BB are struggling… but 2 wrongs don’t make a right. I think it was a tweet “free me” Boutte posted recently…. I don’t care. It’s not like he was video taped beating his GF. BB’s harsh playing rules hurt the team.

But that was 4 years ago for Boutte.

He's had 2 very down years. And yes his injury cost him, but he's been back from it for 2 entire seasons now, and his attitude was poor at LSU.

Not saying it wasn't a failure but I don't think on the surface taking it slow with a 6th rounder and also giving veterans you invested in ample opportunity is a wild strategy.

It's getting harder to see Parker doing anything but I'm not ready to completely give up on JuJu yet.

Not to mention not realizing 6 weeks that the biggest problem was Lowe and to put Onewu in his place.

If the right metric is when posters are ready to give up on someone, many of our players would have been already cut this year.

I certainly agree that it is unlikely that Parker or Shuster will produce for the patriots. As with Smith and Agholor, they will be minor contributors somewhere else.

HOWEVER, both Parker and Shuster have lots of guaranteed money coming to them this year and next. Just perhaps, one of them (with better coaching) can be a better #3 back than Thornton.
=================
What the argument here seems to be about is our obsession with Boutte, We have such an obsession almost every year. Curiously, this year, we are NOT depending on our older veterans only. We have Douglas and Reagor in our top group of WR's.
===========================
Is it really a perverse set of team rules that has kept Boutte inactive. Is that why we brought in Reagor, looked at him in practice, and why he gets more and more reps in games? NO, the team has decided that FOR NOW, Reagor is worthy of game day snaps. Is that wrong?
=======================
THE CHOICES AS OF NOW
A veteran player who made a bad play and made silly excuses in comments
A rookie who made a bad play and made silly comments
A player who has shown little, but who tries hard and seems to have the talent to develop

The team sees practice every day, and the team has seen the body of work on the field for each of these players.

Only one is being significant reps. I would also choose Parker over Boutte for now. I also would have Thornton active over Boutte. However, much might change in a week, depending on whether we win, and who is traded (if anyone). And, NO, I see now reason to cut Parker or Shuster because we need a roster spot so badly. We don't need roster spots. We need players (at WR and at OT).
