Can the Line hold up?

Interesting to read some takes in this thread regarding the OL and all is sunlit valleys and puppy dogs. Back in August.

Turns out the worried prognosticators were on to something. This line is bottom in the NFL. Like last.

That’s bad, no?

He's been sacked three times in the last three games, despite playing the toughest schedule in the league. He's been sacked less than 2/3rds of the starting QB's in the NFL on the season.

Mac Jones has been sacked 9 times, 6 of those came in the first two games when our starters were out with injury. 9 sacks total.

Meanwhile Sam Howell has been sacked 29 times, Daniel Jones 28 times, Justin Fields 20 times...

Mac just sucks. That’s a Mac Jones problem, not a line problem.

Run blocking? How’s that going?

Just dandy, Wozzy, if you’re inexplicably lauding our hapless pass blocking.

I noticed you continue to ignore pressure and hits.
and you continue to ignore any metric that does not fit your narrative.
pretty much every service that grades, has the Pats OL at last or next to last in pass pro, run block and pass block win rate.

you loved saying "wait until they get healthy". yet Anderson was horrible, Lowe horrible, Mafi horrible and Sow non existent. Strange I will give a pass, maybe he was trying to play while still not ready, yet when he did play he was also horrible.

never mind that one of the pick 6's, Mac was hit inside of 2 seconds on his arm when he was throwing.

Nobody buys the excuse making except those making the excuses. He’s been sacked 9 times.

And the notion that Mac is somehow a master of avoiding the sack is the biggest farce since “analytics is more accurate than actual sacks allowed.”

Good points. Rushing the QB is often more effective than sacking him such as causing an errant throw that is picked off or getting the QB rattled.

Mac Jones is clearly rattled.

Yeah, it's not Mac Jones fault... he's been great otherwise.

No, the line hasn’t held up, to answer the thread title:

Metrics/analytics = junk science = excuse making

The same science told us Stephon Gilmore was a bad player when we signed him in 2017.

The line got healthy in week three, they rushed for 157 yards and allowed zero sacks against the Jets.

Since then Mac's level of play has taken a nosedive and opposing defenses know it.

Opponents barely defend the pass anymore, and he still can't pass.

clearly you have not watched the games
the missed blocks by Lowe and Brown were criminal. Mafi and Brown had their worst games yet.
Lowe is graded as the worst RT in the league by every source. his pressures, hits, sacks over a 3 game span have been a record high since they kept track of such
I get it. you are going to die on your comments. but its not looking good for you and your commentary on the OL
dont mis characterize this as me saying Mac played well. he definitely did not. but why? the constant pressure by the DL

How poor the o line has been since Dante’s departure is a major failing of BB. If he’s the best coach of all time why can’t he adequately draft and coach up the O line to a serviceable level?

Agreed Mac is master of backing into a sack D-Lineman's dream QB.

Please post stats for NEP OT's.

Is Brown one of the worst? I recall that he had the best PFF rating for the Jets game.

Yeah... I better not mischaracterize you saying Mac has played well or it's a "strawman" argument (see above) because it would be impossible to defend. He's been the single worst starting QB in football.

It's funny how "Brady carried BB" for twenty years but Mac playing the worst football in the NFL in 2023 isn't a problem... it's a minor inconvenience they should easily overcome. Just dumb.

Mac runs when nobody in near him and sees ghosts, then the PFF geniuses write "pressure" on their note pad.

Not making a block is not criminal.

Would you like to back this up?

Yes, the offensive line is definitely the biggest problem with this team. No matter how bad the others on offense are playing, all the disasters start with the o-line.
And as Ian reminds us it didn’t get better when Cunningham was in there.

Lowe is pornographically bad. Meaning my eyes balls pop out of my head like the first time I saw Playboy as a youngster.

Mafi is bad too. But maybe he will season and mature.

And we gave away our speedy back, Pierre Strong, for swinging door Lowe? Wow. The hits keep coming.
