It's funny that I have gone through great pains to explain how I see it, so much so that the response is tl;dr from a lot of people.

I have a very long post in this very thread just 2 pages back.

So save me the claim that I don't engage.

No you just think Baker whose career stats pretty much even out to being a match for Mac, despite routinely being on better offenses, is somehow going to save this team. Real brilliant engagment

Not sure why people are dismissing this just because Mac didn’t say it himself. This is the kind of thing Bill loathes most of all. He was pissed Mac simply called outside the building for offensive help last year. Someone close to him talking **** about the roster he’s currently on is worse. Not a good look, and won’t endear him to his teammates - a group he desperately needs to win back if he wants to keep his job.

To me, it feels like controlling the narrative by a dude who knows he’s about to see the bench or the transaction wire.

I believe absolutely nothing that I read that isn't a quote attributed to a name that I can research. This is also true with the Swift-Kelce "romance", which all of a sudden now that the game in NY is over Kelce's asking everyone to cool down. It was all a gimmick.

I predicted during last year's coaching clusterfvck that Jones won't want to play here beyond his first contract. Whether it's by his choice or not he'll be done here soon. When he's gone and has a team with something that resembles talent on offense, then we'll know for sure about him. I doubt that this will be his last chance.

Because if it doesn't = wins then the roster is just bad from top to bottom just as I said.

that’s what Zappe did last year. When he started the Patriots won. And those 2 games were the best the offense looked in the last 2 years

Your spot on and I agree 100% throughout the years becoming HC we had foundation pieces to work with. Yes every organization has hits and misses absolutely. We were so lucky becuase BB gets along rope becuase he was the guy that drafted Brady and gave him and opportunity. However I'll just sum up this season. His coaching tenure is ending like it started loosing. Again BB is the GOAT HC and he deserves to be able to walk away and be celebrated. But as someone posted I Believe BB and RK are very intelligent successful men. They both know this is the end.

I wouldn't have taken Cole strange where we drafted him. Cyrus Jones, N'Keal Harry,Juan Williams Duke Dawson. BB was on record saying they really never drafted for need first. well if not then why are you drafting? To your point those guys were drafted you mentioned yes to play in BB defense. Gonzo and Peppers ,Dugger should be the pillars going forward on defense.

On offense everything needs to be revamped. We have seen enough to determine this.

A single bad pick at QB can make a good head coach look idiotic. I know this i a bad comparison with Payton at Denver, but he was a supposedly good coach now saddled with a sad sack QB (who I would trade for in an instant).

I wrote on Cole Strange in the Kraft-Belichick thread. I didn't like trading for a guard there. In retrospect, I see the people taken around him and before and I think, wow, the 2 guys fans wanted (Lloyd and Elam) are busts. There is only one player in that Strange range that turned into anything. The WRs before Pickens are all doing nothing. So, I get the distaste for drafting an OL (which is strange since we're talking here about revamping the OL). But you have to give me an alternative pick.

Jones, Williams, Dawson etc. are from drafts so long ago that the vast majority of the players in those drafts are out of the league. I dismiss them as the sort of thing that happens when you're picking late (end of 1st round, when you've been spanked by the NFL for deflategate, or else when you've traded away picks for Sanu or Cooks and the like). But I think they are irrelevant to the current team. We have 54 players who joined since 2021.

I acknowledge we have a glaring hole at #1 WR, but short of taking Pickens instead of Thornton, I don't know how they would have accomplished that. The alternative is Flowers over Gonzalez. Before that we took Mac Jones. And even though it's been a disastrous pick, it was the right pick at the time.

You think I'm saying that if we replace Mac with me, we win more? I haven't advocated for Zappe here as the answer. This should've been obvious to you. I did mention Baker Mayfield. There are things that Zappe does much much better than mac. Throwing the ball isn't one of them. Showing guts is.

They also can both be bad and the roster can be bad too.

Mac has had mostly clean pockets since week three.

He's only been sacked three times in the last three games, two came yesterday on a Hail Mary attempt at the end of the half.

He's also played three of the best defensive fronts in the NFL.

He just sucks.

I guess the complete inability to run the ball isn’t an offensive line issue either…

That's not an answer. Baker went 1-3 and 1-5 his last two years. Baker had one winning record at 11-5 on the Browns. They were a MUCH better team than this Patriots squad.

You throwing a wishful thinking platitude of "uhhh he's better so he'll save us" isn't an answer. He does better this year on this team than he did the last two years. Btw Baker Mayfield statistcially over his career... not a lot different than Mac. They have a 1 point difference in passer rating, they have .3 difference in yards per average, they have a 4% difference in completion percentage (in Mac's favor), Baker despite starting 37 more games only has 25 more TD's. Even if Mac threw an INT every game until he matched Baker in starts, he'd throw exactly 1 more INT than Baker for his career.

So again, once you ignore wishful thinking and go into pure facts and reality... the difference isn't there. Weird

We've had many years of people here equating Jarvis Landry with Parker. To call that great weapons is beyond credibility.

Mac has a much better setup than Baker did. We're talking Cleveland Browns here.

You continue to underestimate how bad Mac is if you can't see that a gutless jittery QB who bails out instantly and constantly runs into oncoming rushers as his OL sets up blocks--this guy is hopeless. No one said Mayfield is good. He is simply better.

Which is what terrified me I want to scout QBs the same way I scout WRs.
Let’s look at the WRs you can’t blame a WR when the QB outright misses them or doesn’t see them open.
That’s how these mid to late rookie WRs come in and Light it up.
As far as QBs I want the guy who’s making no name WRs good players who is doing it behind an unheralded o line and elevates team around him.
Give me that guy 1st round or 7th round this guy can be found.

He could very well have. I just leave the possibility it was said without his knowledge.

The thing is it is a bad look for him either way. What team is going to want a QB who is going to the media complaining how their GM/coach built the team and crapping on his teammates.

There's always an owner or GM who believes he can draw the best out of players, even ones who may or may not have said or done negative things. Hell, we have one QB in the NYFL who sexually assaulted dozens of women and he got a fine-friendly, $230m guaranteed. I think someone will invest a little something in Mac.

I've been watching Mac since he came here and it looks like he's regressing. Is that because of the coaching problems, the lack of talent on offense, including his own, or has the league has caught up to him? Time will tell.

I've pretty much explained how I see construction of the roster.

Hell, you're talking about an OLine with 3 guys that have been part of very good lines and/or highly evaluated by outside people. Andrews, Onwenu, and Trent Brown. This should be obvious to you.

But if zappe fails too. You guys will just say Zappe sucked anyway. He went 2-7 airmailing guys and running for his life.

Waiting for the magical QB to make Bourne and Juju 2k yard receivers that they really are.

I don't know how Zappe will play, Mac is the worst QB in football... it's can't get much worse.

I didn't say start Zappe anyway, let the coaches decide.... Zappe or Grier. I don't care who.... anyone but Mac.

Brown isn't playing good, so you saying he has been part of good lines in the past doesn't count for anything. You can objectively watch him get beat immediately on plays that have nothing to do with the QB. The line is bad.

Ryan Clark said the same exact thing at halftime yesterday, Mac is getting clean pockets, he's just not making the throws. He was right.

Opponents load the box and dare Mac to beat them... Mac sucks.
