Some OL chatter

Did you see Calvin Anderson's last game at Tackle??
Yes. At RT, where he has grave physical limitations because of lack of bulk. He is strictly LT.

But 9 pressures vs Jets and 10 pressures vs the Cowboys by Lowe isn’t good. Maybe Reiff comes back or they resign McDermott. But we’re going on another season with a dumpster fire at RT.

Hopefully that Dumpster fire moves us in the Top 5 where we can get a Blue Chip player.

Any thoughts why Onwenu played so poorly? By the mid second quarter Scott Zolak said “number 71” was having a stinker of a game after another error.

I was traveling and could only listen.

He was stupid AND lazy on Sunday; two very bad habits for fat dudes to fall-into.

I called out Shaq Mason being very overrated while mediots like Bedard were still calling him one of the best guards in the league. I said the same about Owenu long before this game. The entire OL needs a rebuild at this point.

Fat Albert is overpaid, too injury prone and will be 31 before the start of next year. He's not the problem but he's also not the long term solution.

Strange has shown me nothing to make me think he's the solution. That was a moneyball wasted pick which could have been done at least a round if not two later.

Andrews is still solid but he'll be 32 and there's signs of wear and tear in his play. Given he's playing with crap on both sides of him that's another plausible reason why as he tries to make up for their play.

Owenu isn't good when the DL attacks him. I don't feel he's the solution.

RT, none of them are the solution.

Not to derail from the OL chatter but another guy the media seems to love who I'm not seeing it from is Uche. He has a few sacks but they were the result of pressure from other players. I hardly feel he's been a 1:1 impact player like Judon or White (in certain games).

Yep; to not have even a half-decent running game with these 4 fat slobs & Andrews is Inexcusable.

If Sow is ready to return, here’s the OL starting lineup if Klemm had had a strong mental side to his game this offseason and TC:

Calvin Anderson-Sidy Sow (OT next year perhaps)-Cole Strange-Tony Mafi*-Trent Brown

That could have been a strong OL. I would have put both Mafi and Chasen Hines at RG this TC and see who would win out. Putting Hines at LG was boneheaded.

And I would have done the same thing at LG with Strange and Sow. I have a problem with Strange’s “skinny jeans” lower half. It’s only marginally better this season.

* Until Onwenu is recovered and back in shape. He is only good on one of those two.
Anderson has played poorly so you want to put him at the most important position on the OL, replacing the guy who has turned in the best performance on the whole OL? Really?

Right I guess the Eagles probably have the best OL in the NFL, but aside from them I’m not sure what other team to look at as a model. The Chiefs, 49ers, Bills, Dolphins, Ravens, Cowboy, Lions, Bucs, and Seahawks are the other 3-1 teams but none jumps out at me in that way. Most of them have spent 1st round picks on OL in the past 4 seasons. For the most part it seems like the key factors are coaching and continuity for both the coaches and player.

I definitely want to see the Patriots invest draft picks on the OT and OC positions, but I really think they need continuity even more. Would they be better off if they had taken the top OT prospect (Broderick Jones) instead of Gonzalez, or outbid everyone for Orlando Brown or Mike McGlinchy, I don’t think so. They have sucked, no doubt about that, but let’s not forget they have gone up against 3 of the teams listed above, pretty tough defenses in all 4 games. It’s way to early too draw conclusions IMHO.

If they are at 3-5 on trade deadline day (Halloween) and could deal Brown and/or Onwenu for draft capital (something BB sucks at lately) would you do it (they are both on expiring contracts I think). Neither is likely to yield a Day 1 or 2 pick I don’t think so I would not do it.

My whole thing is - why didn't they take Dawand Jones?

Yep; especially if they were going to stick with Trent Brown at LT, thus necessitating the need for a Right Tackle ahead of a Left Tackle in the draft.

He fell just like Onwenu. Because his weight.

He looks in great shape for a big man. It’s been said before, but a tandem of Onwenu and Dawand Jones would have been a fearsome tidal wave of beef.

And we could have got him for Jake Andrews.... Facepalming self ..

I think we could see a stretch of games, if they stay healthy, of Brown-Mafi-Andrews-Onwenu-Reiff/Sow

WHAT?!?

I had to look it up to make sure it was true...

Thanks for absolutely ruining my morning... I had convinced myself (obviously as a coping strategy) Jones was gone by the fourth round.

I'd rather see if Brown - Sow - Andrews - Mafi - Onemenu could work. Sow's not an NFL RT.

This one makes it seem as if our offensive Line's one of the best in Football... Is there a Patriot on it he doesn't like?

Oh, I disagree with like 90% of his "analysis," but I still LOVE the ability to actually watch what happens at the line every play in slow motion.

Yup, our board experts would have drafted him in the 2nd
