Same here, but I wouldn’t want him to hang on until he’s 80’ to do it. I think he will retire after next season, record or not, but I think it’s because of a pre planned plan of succession, with Mayo taking over as head coach, Groh as head of Football operations, and Wolf in charge of player personnel. I think this is why they paid Mayo not to take coaching offers, I believe he has been assured the job. That’s just my opinion on it, and even though he’s black i’m guessing it would violate league rules, so they would probably engage in the same charade every other franchise engages in when hiring a coach, despite already knowing who they want, I could be wrong, and Belichick could hang on until he has one more win than Shula, but he’s certainly not running the franchise the way a guy who wants wins immediately would run it. By this I mean he’s not going all in for 1-2 years, but is taking a much more methodical approach, that will leave them in much better shape going forward, whether he retires or not.
