Defense is one thing but how about the WRs? Let Meyers go to sign Juju who is damaged goods. Extends Parker when he could have used that money to sign Hopkins.

Running backs is one thing.
QB is one thing.
1/2 the WR pool is one thing.

Bill can draft QBs just fine. I think a guy named Tom Brady did all right in this league. Although he did draft your boy Zappy Smurf in the 4th round when they could have signed the smurf undrafted but that’s just a minor blemish on a decent track record.

Since then, BB has drafted QBs who have won nothing. If BB could identify an NFL QB we would not have had Cam. The Pats would have won a playoff game in 3 years.

@Triumph the Cam move was probably more about not having cap space to do better, with Newton likely being the only guy available at that time for low dollars with any hope at all of succeeding. The cap space was more BB’s fault than Newton being washed. And it was the COVID year which added to the problem.

If we are to bring up Rehbein, which is a legit point though there will never be a way to know if he had to convince BB not to pick someone else, then we also need to remember that Charlie Weis, the OC at the time, would have to have bought in as well. Similarly through the years whether it was Weis, McDaniels, O’Brien, or GoodellClownShirt, the OC almost certainly had a big say in whom they had in the QB room. It’s fun to speculate but we for sure know we will never get the whole truth about these situation. “Success has many parents, failure is an orphan.”

BB drafted Stidham who was supposed to be the heir apparent to Brady. Stidham is a perennial back up coffee fetcher.

Rehbein pestered BB until he finally relented. In the 6th round Rehbein mentioned to BB "Brady is still there"

SF made it to the SB with defense and a run game.

Jimmy was 8 attempts for 6 completions for 77 yards 0 TDs in the NFC Championship win vs GB. SF ran for 285 yards and 4 TDs.
Jimmy was 19 attempts for 11 completions for 131 yards 1 TD 1 INT in the NFC Divisional win vs Minnesota. SF ran for 186 yards and 2 TDs.

Jimmy choked in the Super Bowl when the chips were down. SF was afraid to give him the ball before the half with plenty of time to score.
