Their little dreamland plan of Rodgers winning them a Super Bowl or two then riding off into the sunset and having Wilson full of Rodgers' wealth of knowledge leading them for a decade was laughable at the time and is now just embarrassing. They had a 40 year old QB behind a shaky offensive line and didn't bother to upgrade the backup QB position. Not bringing in a Jacoby Brissett, Teddy Bridgewater, or Tyler Heineke type backup and sticking with Wilson is just pure hubris on the part of Joe Douglas.I went there wondering if the Jete fan base was buying into the Saleh line about Zach being the starter and any new QB will be Zach's backup.
They don't, they don't trust Zach, they have seen all they need to see of him, they want a new starter.
They are looking for a steady low-risk QB that can move the chains, the opposite of Zach.
The problem is so is every other NFL team, both for starting and backup positions, and no one is letting that kind of guy go.
All the free agent QBs are there for a reason, no team was willing to offer them a job.
Aaron Rodgers: I'm not a fan of plays that involve cut-blocking. My big thing is trying to extend plays and I can't do that if we're cut-blocking.
Jets Coaches: Thanks for the input, Aaron. We really appreciate it and will keep that in mind when we're coming up with the gameplan.

It really defies belief. If we were writing a script for a show about an NFL team and someone proposed that scenario, it would be rejected as being too unrealistic.

Now you can add in Rodgers blowing out his Achilles on Game 1 just like Testeverde did in 1999, with Testaverde in the audience!I always thought the Jete have provided ample material for a hit R-rated HBO football sitcom. The storylines are endless -- Favre sexting **** pics to a team employee, the Buttfumble, Namath's deal with Satan, Sanchez dating a high school girl, Woody's gaffes as ambassador to Britain, Winslow Jr. busted for masturbating in his car, Punky bedding his mom's best friend, Darnold getting mono, Rex Ryan's foot fetish ... Well, most of this stuff is chronicled in the thread intros.
Even if it was a high ankle sprain for Rodgers and he was going to miss a month to month and a half at least a guy like Mike White or a higher level backup with that defense and offensive supporting cast should keep you at .500 and still in the playoff mix. Wilson is just going to waste a year of all those studs they have on cheap contracts.Joe Douglas is really getting buried on that forum.
As predicted, they are roasting him for not spending a few million to keep Mike White, amongst many other complaints.
I don't think Mike White is a viable NFL starter, but he more resembles a "move the chains" guy than McMilfson does.
If anything Douglas should be roasted for not doing anything about their ****ty OL.
It was a huge problem last season, he had the whole off season to fix it, he didn't.
Bill Simmons had one of his Jete fan friends on his "emergency podcast" about the Rodgers injury. Bill said "well if you can go 2-4 through the first six games you might be okay" and the Jete fan said "yeah, but that's what we were predicting with Rodgers!".Even if it was a high ankle sprain for Rodgers and he was going to miss a month to month and a half at least a guy like Mike White or a higher level backup with that defense and offensive supporting cast should keep you at .500 and still in the playoff mix. Did you mean to invoke the memory of the HBO show 4th and 10? If anyone is too young to remember, it was a gloriously cheesy early HBO comedy starring OJ Simpson(!) with gratuitous titties in every episode. From the time before HBO was associated with prestige television.I always thought the Jete have provided ample material for a hit R-rated HBO football sitcom. After watching that Hard Knocks season I am not the least bit surprised. That coaching staff is a bunch of meathead hardos who just want to grunt and headbutt their way into a winning season.
You have to figure they'd be better off if Rodgers never was signed and they went with White as starter. He showed a ton of grit last season and the locker room loved him. It's a strong roster that would be fine with a durable, heady game manager at QB. The Rodgers money could've been applied to OL free agents.
Yeah you’re ok at 2-4 LOL. But if he’s speaking to Jete fans…that’s a win.Bill Simmons had one of his Jete fan friends on his "emergency podcast" about the Rodgers injury. Mike White also has durability concerns. He got pummeled at times last year.
It’s a structural problem with the Jets right now that you want to have an offense that takes advantage of Garrett Wilson but can’t block enough to enable him to run deep patterns without jeopardizing a QB’s health. If they play like the Titans Garrett Wilson will go ballistic.
Overall the Jete fans knew they were up against the toughest part of their schedule in the first six weeks even with Rodgers, thought going 2-4 to start would work out in the end because Rodgers was going to lead them the rest of the season. Well, that plan didn't last four plays.Yeah you’re ok at 2-4 LOL. But if he’s speaking to Jete fans…that’s a win.
White was their best performing QB in the past half dozen years.White was a never-say-die gamer for them, though. He was a leader, which was why his teammates loved him. Rodgers went through the motions and Punky has no clue.
I don’t understand why he would even want to come back, given everything he’s said about the NFL.
