Wearing that jersey would be very "exciting"; there would be some taunting and teasing and rude comments. Football fans are about the last bastion of gay bashing (verbally anyway), although I am sure that there are just as many gay football fans as there are in the general public, but they are deep in the closet. Thankfully attitudes are changing, and it would not be dangerous to wear that jersey now, unlike the old days.

Still it would be a bold statement to wear that jersey....
