Not saying they should or shouldn’t have done it but the decision to not sign Hopkins rings a little differently today. I don’t think many of us figured a real weakness on the team at WR may not be as much of a weakness as we thought.
I wasn’t as down on the WRs as everybody clamoring for DHop seems to be.

I‘ve consistently argued this board underrates Bourne. I’ve never understood how so many posters think he should be traded or even cut outright. Crazy.

from what we’ve seen so far I think Bourne is our best receiver. Boutte could turn out to be better but he needs to compile a body of work to substantiate that. Pop Douglas is the same, but I think Boutte may have the greater potential of the two of them. Those three have shown the most to this point in the preseason.

Juju and Parker haven’t shown as much but haven’t been asked to. They’ll step up and do their job when the games count.

Thornton needs to stay healthy. Seeing Gesicki and Nixon both suffer similar injuries makes it harder to blame Tyquan, but it’s still axiomatic that you don’t make the club if you’re in the tub.

overall it’s a good group of receivers.

I blame Parker for the deep pass. Looked like Jones threw a perfect ball, but Parker slowed up his route and alligator armed the catch. I don't blame Jones at all.

And he did have a great throw to Bourne under pressure here:

Kevin Halran on that call just reminds me how rinky-dink amateur the 'Kraft Productions' broadcast is.

Boutte has been a huge surprise this pre season. I was not expecting much. He has outperformed Thornton.
Bill will have a tough decision. Maybe Thornton to IR (again) and keep both Douglas and Boutte on 53 man roster?

Was thinking the same thing

Well, add no rebroadcast of last night as well - NFL Network instead showed Steelers/Bills again because there apparently isn't an editor in the world that can make a cut to the film before the Bolden injury.

They could’ve easily just shown the first three quarters and cut off the fourth quarter. Odd.

I thought Zappe looked awful, just holding the ball way too long, indecisive in the pocket, happy feet, just a far cry from the see it, throw it player he was when getting playing time last year, which may have a lot to do with an opened up playbook and more responsibilities in terms of progressions, setting protections and calling plays.

Didn't think Mac was impressive either, I'm honestly a bit stunned at the positive reception to his performance. Not that he was bad, he was okay, but he missed Henry down the seam, he missed Parker deep and missed him on the called PI in the end zone that set up the TD (awful placement on the fade) and I'm sorry, if they are going to go five wide a ton and put him in shotgun with a lot of leeway in terms of changing the play and making adjustments at the line, he'll have to be his best pass protector. It's just the reality of playing that sort of game, guys will rush free and it'll take one loss by the OL for the pass rush to be on you. Or he'll have to make a ton of big plays to make up for sacks if he's willing to hold the ball, as Burrow does in a similar type of offense, at least formationally. It's why I thought the ball to Douglas in space was his best play. Recognize where they vacated to rush, get the ball there quickly, first down.
The Parker deep ball was on Parker. He should of caught that. And it was JuJu in the end zone and he was clearly held around the waist on his break, which slowed him down. (***Edit: I just re-watched the game and it was most definitely Parker. When I watched it live last night I thought I saw number 7. I really hate these single digit numbers all over the field.)

Those are two odd plays to choose to show Max in a negative.

The Henry pass was bad, but I thought he made quick, decisive decisions for the majority of his snaps.

He stepped up in the pocket, which is something he hasn't really done in the past two years and I didn't see any of his terrible, off his back foot throws.

Overall I thought it was a solid showing by Mac. He needs to keep improving and the big boys in front of him to get healthy.

Dang. I had the pizza ready ... and it's Kenny Pickett. I hate the NFL.

Obviously, Sow did not look good on that bull rush sack, but that is something that is fixable. He just got too high in his stance. I didn’t look at the his play in detail last night. Did anyone play close attention to the rest of his performance? I’ve heard and read from a couple online sources that he looked solid otherwise but not sure if that is reality.

Add buffalo to the list of AFC East teams with major question marks at OT. Check out a couple of Bills fans message boards. They’re panicking that starting RT Spencer Brown is going to get Allen killed.
Same down in Miami and New York.

Mac Jones 6-9-52
that's 5.7 ypa. that's a joke. it's just a continuation of the pop gun offense from last year. I don't see how people think Jones was good. He was barely adequate, missed open guys, and generally did nothing to make anyone think the offense is going to be able to put up the # of points you need to win consistently in the modern NFL.
And full disclaimer, I'm not anti Mac Jones. the team could win with him if they had anyone others than 2s and 3s for pass catchers.

YES

Douglas looks comfortable out there already and I want to see more of Boutees physical play.

Yep! Patrick Pass fumbled and the only guy who went after the ball was Stephen Neal. It was vs GB in 02. We got killed
Never changed my opinion on him after that. It was completely inexcusable.
