DeVante Parker reached an agreement on a 3-year new contract worth up to $33M

The dot-connecting between Parker and Hopkins all offseason has been really bizarre.

The "consensus" was that if they sign Hopkins then Parker was the most likely to go. Perhaps because they are similar receivers in that they both rely on body control and hands to win rather than separation.
But your point is excellent - they run completely different route trees and so are actually complementary. Hopkins' average depth of target was 9.8 yards vs Parker's 15.4 yards.

Nothing screems 8 or 9 wins like this WR core with Mac Jones.

You can't coach separation and athletic ability and DeVante Parker literally can't separate from anyone in 2023, chucking up heaves to this guy is asking for trouble.
Who cares? He catches 66% of the balls thrown to him.

Would you rather have a WR who gets better separation and catches 65% of the balls thrown his way?

Dunno…I like me some D Parker…but we could have waited it out through August and then cut him for 6M in savings….

But the front office/coaches have forgotten more about football than I ever will know….
Clearly they didn't want to cut him

If they sign Hopkins, this could be a great deal.

It's essentially a two year deal, 7 million per is roughly a million more than he was making before in salary if they kept him. They gave him a slight raise and another two years guaranteed, it calms his concerns about Hopkins and endears him to this team.

Parker on one side running downfield routes, with Hopkins drawing attention on the other side. Shades of Stallworth/Moss... even if Moss was a uniquely different athlete.

If they don't sign Hopkins, they better hope Parker can do something he hasn't done since 2019... stay healthy.

They still should sign Hopkins, we want superweapons!!! Why not us?!

They should also sign Dalvin Cook if he can't find a megadeal elsewhere and wants to sign a one year prove it deal behind a great O-Line... but they should make Hopkins the priority.

They have money... go all in.

I think this all but guarantees that Hopkins isn't signing here and that the money will be used to give someone like Uche or Onwenu their extension.

Let's be clear, extending Parker is related to Hopkins only in the minds of posters. They are very different kinds of receivers.

Yes, we want Hopkins at the right price. However, we have even more 2023 cap money now. Our outside receivers are Parker and Thronton.
As of now, our slot receivers are Ju-Ju and Bourne.

We may or may not ger Hopkins or any other upgrade.

THIS DEAL was a good one for the team.

Neither are getting extended imo, Uche won’t get extended cause he’s primarily a 3rd down rusher and Onwenus replacement was drafted.

Hopefully Dugger is the one extended.

A 3yr deal for a 30 yr old WR with a bad injury history?

Unless they overpay Uche, he isn‘t going to sign an extension. He has another double digit sack season and he will get a top of the market contract in free agency. Not elite passer rusher money, but next tier level. Teams overvalue sacks when it comes to paying pass rushers.

I see him being like Trey Flowers where a team will give him far more than his actual value.

I like Parker, happy to have him extended. Anybody who judges a player by last year's production was not paying attention.

Speechless.

So D-Hop played us for a couple of lunches and dinners.

Patriots WR evaluation is off the charts I would have invested that money in D-Hop who's a superior player. I think the Chiefs are going clear some cap room swoop in and get D-Hop. I'm not so excited about the upcoming season anymore without a D-Hop. We are treating D Parker like some reclamation prospect I beg to differ. We have Nobody on Offense worth doubling. I think someone spiked OC BOB's drink.

this deal actually CLEARS $4million in cap space to sign Hopkins so this doesn't mean anything on that end.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, who initially broke the news of Parker’s extension, said “Parker’s new contract will not dampen any optimism of bringing in Hopkins, who’s not expected to sign with a club until just before training camps kick off in late July.”

people get all crazy about the initial reporting but you need to look at the real money. only $14million in guarantees.

it always was going to be Parker or Bourne as the odd man out IMO if Hopkins signs. i'm just more surprised that they prioritized Parker as I think Bourne is a better receiver.

Only a blind Homer would disagree with your post: right on Brother. Parker is not even a Edelman in the twilight of his career. D-Hop with this Parker could work but minus D-Hop this is a Eight win Team. I was expecting a D-Hop signing not a Parker extension.

This deal clearly shows how much Bill thought of Jakobi Meyers - which is not much.

First Schuster, now Parker.
And people in FA wanted us to give him close to $20Mill.

I'm also not sure why they chose Parker over Bourne as the guy to extend. Patriots REALLY need to sign Hopkins to round out this receiver core. Or its just a bunch of #2 guys who opposing defenses would love to play against.

if we get Hopkins I will think Bill finally gets it. But he seems to treat offense like it doesn't matter when the league is actually trending more to the Offense being even more important.

He did mouth OFF to BB about Patricia's crap show on Offense and his under use. I am sure that played a role in the decision of the guy buying the groceries.

Indeed. The Bourne Contention with Patricia won't square well with BB's assertion that he only wants to coach players he likes. Being forced into a position of having to ditch his favorite underling has to have left a bad taste in BB's mouth and colored his impression of Bourne.
