OT: RIP Jim Brown

RIP to the greatest

RIP Jim Brown

I love watching his highlights, he was running over D-Lineman back then, big and fast.

RIP to arguably the greatest football player of all time & a wonderful human being.

No doubt
A Real legend
A huge loss for our loved sport
R.i.p.

RIP a Syracuse legend. Earned 10 Varsity letters in college for football, basketball, track and he was one of the greatest lacrosse face-off men of all time!

Can easily be called the greatest player in NFL history.

This legend first appear on my TV screen as an eight-year-old watching Running Man. He scared the crap outta me more than any of the other bad guys.

His story makes you feel so small, but gives you hope too in a weird way.

It's cool he got to live along life.

RIP

Certainly on the Mt. Rushmore of top NFL players of all time

Jim Brown, Tom Brady, Lawrence Taylor, maybe Jerry Rice? That might be my 4.

A few other contenders of course, especially going back: Unitas, Belitinikof, Butkus, Ditka, Sayers, Gregg, Singletary, Mean Joe Greene, Night Train Lane, Gary Payton, Montana, Moss, Hannah, Munoz, Thanks Dad Ferentz...

OK, I put in that last one to see if you were paying attention

Brown must have been terrifying on a lacrosse field; he was pretty scary on a football field where guys were built more his size.

RIP Jim Brown
The man was even bigger than his legend, the genuine article.
'We shall not see his like again'

Best RB in history.

The second best, Barry Sanders, was constantly reminded of this by his father.

Also Brown went above and beyond in the community instead of sitting on his hands and complaining. A HOF human.

RIP, Mr. Jim Brown. You were the best player I've ever witnessed. Averaged 105 yds. rushing per game for a career. Averaged 130 yds rushing from scrimmage in 1963, per game. Quit on top, and young and healthy.

There are greats, there are legendaries, then there is Jim Brown.

He used to council black convicts in prison. He got the Brown’s head coach to go with him. That coach is now the Patriots HC….
Bill was a great friend of Jim Brown, long after Jim left football. Most people don't know that Jim was a better lacrosse player than a football player if you can believe it. Growing up and becoming aware of football in the late 50's.. Those dramatic games between the Browns and Giants were must see TV at a time where only really rich people could afford a 24" TV screen, and the drama was set up to be about 2 men that actually played against each other. Jim Brown and his offense vs Sam Huff and the Giant defense, A real match up. Not one of phony ones we see today like "Brady, vs Manning" etc. who never were on the same field at the same time. THIS was when I fell in love with football.

I was a senior in HS when Brown "retired" to Hollywood. I can tell you that it was STUNNING news back then. But those were NOT the days when a guy could be practically set for life being a Jag who plays for 3 or 4 years. Those were the days where most players had day jobs in the off season. When I made my stab at the big time, base salaries were UNDER $16K in 1969, and 70. I googled it and when he retired he was making $60K as the NFL's best player and retired as the league's MVP in '65

Now $60 Grand was a lot of money back then but it wasn't the HUGE gap between what "ordinary" people made. Now days when $100MM contracts don't even raise an eyebrow, it kind of makes you wonder.
