RUMOR: Caserio coming back to New England after draft?

That's tough looking at 2019's group and knowing that in a couple years, three of those guys named would be GMs somewhere else.

I get your point, but Caserio was "the guy" from 2009 all the way through 2020 in NE. If he lost his job I don't think it'd be hard to imagine NE would be opposed to finding a role for him even if it was just short term.
there were more than a few rough draft classes over that period that led to the massive free agency over pays of 2021... combined with his flirtations with Houston a year before he left, I don't see it happening...

I Just want Obrein and Wolf and Groh to pick the offensive players and Bill and Mayo and staff the D.

Keep Bill far away offensive skill players.

I really hope this report is false. I was cautiously optimistic when Bill brought back Patricia and Judge because I trusted BB’s judgment, ended up being a disaster.

Bringing in “Cassio” I imagine is not in the best interest of Groh and Wolf. Both are up and coming and I’m not sure if they would like working with or for their former boss. All speculation because first, it hasn’t happened and 2nd, we don’t know what his duties would be. I can’t imagine a scenario where Groh is demoted and replaced by “Cassio.” It would show ultimate disloyalty to the people in place and would have trickle down effect for the employees. He could say “what’s best for the team.” But to me it would say “what’s best for me.” This has got be a total media fabrication imo. Just not happening.

Belichick must be the luckiest guy on Earth. Based on what I read here, he can't coach, he can't manage, he can't evaluate players and staff, he is incapable of putting a competitive team together. It just boggles the mind trying to comprehend how he has been so successful.

I never said he can’t coach I never said he can’t motivate players I never said he’s not the best game planner or X’s and O’s Guy on defense maybe ever.
I also never said he can’t scout defensive talent time and time again he’s shown he can.
What I am saying is I don’t trust him to scout WRs especially.

Been looking thru the staff lists over the past 20 odd years ... there has not been a single instance of a front office employee returning to the Patriots after they have left... i don't think Caserio is coming back... i put the list in a quote box because its so long... expand it to see the list of names/positions
Thanks for the post. My first thought after I read the list was, "Bill's "GM tree" had done a LOT better than his coaching tree".

Maybe, to unboggle your mind, you might want to consider that what once was might not always be. Are there really no examples you can think of where someone who was highly successful declined in success over time?

Belichick wasn’t lucky at all. At his apex, he was the best coach pro football has ever known. As they say down south, “he could take yours and beat his”. But, unless you want to attribute all the Patriots success to their former QB, you have to admit there’s been a considerable decline in success in Foxboro because in no small part of the decline in performance by the HC/GM over what had previously been his norm.

Well, I dunno. He's really bad at picking football players. Is that an important aspect of the GM job?

Great job understanding his sarcasm..

Pat Stewart, a former Patriots scout who spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, is returning to New England in an unspecified scouting department role, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported Thursday. Stewart spent the first decade of his NFL career with the Patriots. He began as a scouting assistant in 2007 and went on to spend six seasons as an area scout and three as a pro scout before leaving to join the Eagles in 2018.

low level scout.... not the same thing, is it?
Left here as a Pro Scout and advanced to VP of player personnel in Carolina. So, yes I do. At the time, it was reported there was competition for his services, but he chose to return to New England.

The real significance to this thread of Stewart’s returning appears in Zuma’s post. The news was first reported by a reporter for a TV station in Houston. Why would a guy based in Houston have the scoop on a former Carolina executive returning to the NE Patriots? Is it just a coincidence the reporter is based in the city Caserio now works? Has this been in the works for awhile, and the Patriots added Stewart in anticipation of Caserio’s return?
