RUMOR: Caserio coming back to New England after draft?

When has a team completed a draft and then the GM was fired or left right afterwards?
It makes sense to me. A GM directs the entire draft process for many months and sees it through before leaving. Leaving on the last week before a 6 month project is complete seems even more strange to me.

Yep... That's more or less what happened here during/after the 2000 draft process.

???

What part of Belichick's hiring of Patricia and Judge don't you understand?

Even Josh left, failed, and came back.
The part where Patricia had never coached on offense before then became the OC. Or maybe the part where the only thing Judge does well is coach special teams but he didn't do that last year even when our special teams were atrocious and apparently Judge is a pain in the ass but still came back this year. I would say that is a big part of what I don't understand.

I want Wolf or Groh to be GM.
Caserio drafted Harry
Great talent evaluation by Caseiro there he didn't see Harry's glaring separation Issues on tape.

The Jets did it just a few years ago. I believe the Bills have also done it. Finishing the draft is essentially the end of the year's biggest task for a GM, so it's the wisest time to part ways. The draft and the biggest portion of free agency is over. If you try to get a new GM later in the season then it might disrupt things too much. You could do it right at the end of a football season but often times you're also seeking a new head coach so sometimes you can only do one at a time (which would be the case with Houston here). It's a little weird but it makes some level of sense.
Yep, and in turn if you're looking for a new GM it's hard to hire one mid-season because pretty much all the personnel guys that are good are on contract till after the draft.

Why would Caserio return to NE? Why not? Would he have better connections anywhere else? Maybe, he’s the GM Jerod Mayo wants when he takes over.
How long before someone posts "because HOU is paying his salary for a few more years, and Kraft, well you know about Kraft"...

it makes zero sense. Why would Houston allow him to hire a coach, run a draft, etc and then decided that he is "out" so close to the draft?

but if he did come back it would be funny to see DropkickFlutie go apocalyptic
Jesus that dude was out of control.

Be careful what you say here, HE is watching you!!!

Yes, many GMs are let go after the draft, it seems odd to let a guy run your draft and then let him go, but I guess you can't have him prepare for it, and then have someone else run it.

Imagine if he traded picks 2 & 12 to the Pats for pick 14, then we would know for sure he is coming back!

Wasn't Caserio in on some terrible Patriots drafts? Why would they want him back? The drafting has improved since Groh has been in charge....but then again, maybe BB overruled Caserio on Harry. Remember that Harry gave a GREAT interview, and we all know how important that is to Bill.

Harry was the worst draft pick the Patriots ever made, not only because Harry sucked, but because it drove Brady out of town.

I believe there were reports that Caserio didn’t like Harry but Bill overruled him.

honestly i dont want Caserio back... his last few drafts here were really, really bad... its almost as if he intentionally wanted to weaken us on his way out the door

our drafting has been a lot better these last couple years, Groh has us on the right track

Florio and Peter King reporting on it. They are saying they think they'd let Caserio go and then hire the 49ers assistant GM to be their new GM.

It’s really hard to tell though, given that Belichick is the actual GM. There’s definitely correlation with the most recent drafts being better than the prior ones, but how much of that was Groh vs. Caserio, compared with Belichick just changing how he makes the final decisions?
