PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

Not open for further replies.
Yeah he may not be all in on Mac for the future. On the other hand - moving decisively is not leaking that your starting QB is for sale, while not having a plan to improve at the position.

So IMO either LJ is coming or this is media BS.

Hard saying not knowing.

Let’s not forget what Bill said about Zappe

Bailey made a lot of good decisions,” the Patriots head coach said during his postgame press conference. “Was accurate with the ball. Thought he showed some poise there in some pressure situations where he got out of it and found an open receiver, made good decisions.”
Belichick went on to pinpoint a specific trait Zappe possesses that will help him in his development.
“He does a good job of seeing the game and can come off and identify and articulate what he saw, what happened — and that’s usually right,” Belichick said. “What he saw is usually what I saw or, maybe, when you look at the film, maybe there’s something that’s a little gray in there, his explanation is actually good. It was the way he saw it. Maybe he might not have done the right thing, but he saw the game.
Just want to point out this is one do the many things That made Tom stand out. I

I think GM's shop all their players all the time. Even just for shts and grins.

Also Mac is going to be the starting QB for the Pats come September (barring injury or act of God).
Yes but not for all. No way a team would shop their starting QB without a high conviction level. QBs are a sensitive bunch as Bruschi always says.

Bledsoe was already the QB for 8 years and took the team to the Super Bowl.
That makes it worse... Mac has no such record. You'd think people wouldn't be so up in arms at the thought that Bill has one QB for two years and another QB for one year and decided that one is a better fit for the team than the other one. I don't think Bill cares about draft status.

This one really stands out to me. When asked about Brady as a player Belichick always mentions this first. Any manager, of any discipline, always identifies the traits that make their high performers. Obviously, when you work with the best person ever to do their job you will always seek talent that has the same traits. The fact that Bill mentioned this first when describing Zappe stood out strongly. It is a virtual certainty that if Bill sees this in a QB he will become somewhat enamored with the player. It is only logical and human that he would.

To highlight a few things in the article:

Although there is some friction there between the head coach and quarterback, a potential trade would not only be surprising to me – but several sources around the NFL I spoke with this afternoon.

One NFL source said they hadn’t heard anything about the Patriots shopping Jones to any team this offseason, adding, “That’s news to me.” A second NFL source said the Patriots haven’t contacted the Buccaneers about Jones, saying his name “has never come up” this offseason. A third NFL source said the Patriots have not contacted the Raiders about a trade involving Jones, either.
Note the specific phrase “NFL source” here.

1000 percent.

The fact he said Bailey sees the game like him himself does
I think we may have our QB already here.

Other supporting evidence:

Bill- everyone will play (fails to commit to Mac Jones)

Hoyer released supposedly because he did not like offense last year and Mac asked him for advice

Curran- Bill is still pissed about Mac seeking advice last year outside the organization

yes we do not have absolute confirmation from another GM...how often do you get that.
This story 100% is aligned with everything else going on

Honestly, this team is full of holes. I’m happy to hear of BB shopping every single player and / or pick. I like Mac more than most posters, but when a team needs to build at many spots, there should be no untouchables.

Hard saying not knowing.
True.

Put it this way: at this point of the off-season, if we weren't all talking about this story, what would we be talking about?

Answer: nothing. It's that dead point after FA but still too far from draft week. That's why I think this has become a thing, but we'll see.

Disaster. Total disaster. If I’m Jones, get me outta here. What’s sh@t show.
BB bootlickers go ahead and flame but this is allll on him.

But when you're rebuilding a team you don't create another massive hole you have to fill.

I’m very curious to see how Zappe looks this training camp, with full offseason training and a full year in the NFL behind him. I thought he did well as a rookie given what he was assigned with. He didn’t play well once the Bears adjusted in the 2nd half and did leave some hanging passes. But there was a reason he was a 4th round pick and was the 3rd string QB here in year 1, not the 2nd stringer. Yeah, Brock Purdy’s emergence may seem to put a damper on this, but that’s the exception, not the rule, and his team was stacked with talented players and talented coaches unlike the Pats who had average offense players and terrible offensive coaches. But I thought Zappe’s decision making seemed pretty good too. He hung in there in his first ever NFL performance, completely unprepared, in Lambeau Field of all places. He didn’t fall all over himself - made the right decision most of the times, and didn’t crap his pants like Hoyer did in KC, for example.

We could have seen the best of him already and he is what he is, but I think there’s potential there if he really dedicated himself to knowing everything, and I mean everything, about the offense, and building up more arm strength.

Now i am curious to see how this will end...

Oh the popcorn that I'd be making if this is the plan
Imagine how much Lily content we could have!
