Even if Berrios was some great asset that no one should pass on (which he's not), the Patriots now have a full time slot WR that they're paying 11m a year to, AND a guy in Bourne who can play inside as well. Berrios is the kind of signing that would make sense if they decided to go all in on Hopkins, OBJ, etc, and needed a competent player to fill the slot role. But they're good there now, so Braxton is redundant. And it's not like they need his return ability to with Marcus Jones on the team.

Smith-Schuster isn't a "full time slot WR". Just like Edelman wasn't a full time slot WR. Just like Bourne isn't a full time slot WR. He was split WIDE 59% of the time and in the slot 41% of the time with the Chiefs.

Kinda sad Berrios went to the Fins.
I thought he could add a needed skill set as a true shifty slot guy.

Didn't realized that signing Smith-Schuster and Robinson = not signing pass catching weapons...
Here is what I said "It would be great if the Pats could sign some pass catching weapons today"

My statement doesn't imply that they haven't signed any pass catching options, just that I want them to sign additional ones today. Not sure how you can disagree with that.

Curran mentioned MP wasn't with the organization anymore? This Still shouldn't stop us from pursuing slay he is a dam good corner and would be instantly the 1 here at CB.. I'm sure BB still remembers Diggs is still in this division

Curran did say that in a definitive way, but then waffled:

“I think he is, at this juncture, from what I’ve gathered, kind of untethered. He’s not with the Patriots,” said Curran. “Robert Kraft, not on the record, but certainly characterized a level of respect for Patricia and Joe Judge as coaches and guys. So I don’t think they’re persona non grata. But I don’t know if they have an exact role for him. I think he would be a little bit radioactive if he had any involvement with the offense at all. The defense seems kind of set. Curran: What's next for Patricia after losing out on Broncos DC job?

The article points out MP didn't go to the Shrine Bowl with the staff, while JG did.

So, "not with the Patriots" could have just been a reference to that trip, because Curran then goes on to say they may find a role for him.

It also suggests the interview in DEN may have just been Payton doing a solid for BB.

IMO it also made it look like Payton was doing his diligence.

So, who knows? Feels speculative to me, but I don't think anyone has sighted MP in the building for a while now.

Yeah, the team could certainly choose to sign a “full time slot WR” to pair with JuJu if they thought it was worth it, the same way the Pats had Amendola to go with Edelman, and Welker pairing with Troy Brown for a season. But the fact that Bourne can play the slot too lessens the need (or usefulness might be a better term) of spending real money for that type of player.

I know what you "said" because I quoted your post. No matter how you spin it, it's garbage. The Pats literally just signed 2 pass-catching weapons that were added to the Weapons they already have.

Now they're looking at a Mack Wilson replacement, it seems.

Turns out it was Mack himself.

So, on paper, same team as last year with upgraded coaching.

True.

Not remotely good enough in the AFC East.
Need the big pieces now: Brown, Jeudy, Chauncey Gardner-Smith, etc. or they remain middling.

True.

They tried the mass upgrade via FA in 2021, it wasn't in the cards this season, IMO.

As bad as Agholor and Smith turned out, there aren't a lot of skills position players in FA this season.

Thanks for that added information, yeah.. it's an odd scenario in wich MP was reported involved with the contracts ect..

Yes I agree, it definitely was a solid.. as the guy who had the job in hand already was the same guy who made a comment of it looks like a defensive coordinator calling offense...

So do you know what judges role is with the team?

So do you know what judges role is with the team?
No. One of the articles said he was back as a "supervisor" but didn't say what he'd be supervising.

Another article I googled said MP was "exploring all options" which doesn't rule out a return as an advisor.

I'm sure Pats will be waiting for when his price comes down. No one is giving him that amount and with each passing day less and less teams will have the cap space to offer that type of deal.
It was $20M, now it's "$15-20M". Soon it'll be "around $15M". I'm guessing NE doesn't want to pay much more than they paid Juju.

They need more though. So far they have lost a big slot and signed a big slot, lost a TE and signed a back up running back (losing two and gaining two). They still need another TE or two and another WR or two. They might get those guys in the draft, but they can also get them in free agency.

Wanting to fill a hole at WR (they have 4 roster quality receivers now, most teams carry 5), and wanting to fill a hole at TE (they have one roster quality TE the Pats usually roster 2 at a minimum) isn't garbage. I'm not complaining about the two signings they made (if you look at my posts regarding those signings I was happy about both), just pointing out that they need additional players at pass catching positions.

Given his injury history there is no way he should be paid as the top receiver in the FA class. My guess is he will get 11 or 12.
