If I was the Packers I wouldn’t budge an inch. Options:

a) Jets pay what they want and nothing less
2) He can hold a clipboard for the year and try again next year
d) He can retire

Rodgers and the Jets have no leverage whatsoever. He can do his best to paint the packers in a bad light and put the blame on them, but any non Jet fan doesn’t care/falls for his crap. The dead money makes this situation very easy for the Pack.

I do think the Jets have some leverage- although they have less because if they skip on Rodgers, they are looking at someone like Mariota, Ryan, Wentz or Bridgewater to compete with Wilson. At the same time, the Packers have a 40 year old guy, coming off his worst season, that they don’t want, who doesn’t want to be there, with a massive contract. So, while they have some leverage, I see it as a fairly short lever.

I would’ve paid $16M APY easily. Seems like a great signing for Cincy. But, yes, the question now is how do they afford Burrow, Chase AND Higgins this/next offseason?

The post June 1st designation, if I understand it correctly, is for cuts, not trades. I do not believe that there is any post June trade relief. If the Packers cut him, they don’t receive any compensation.

It's the same for releases and trades after June 1st if they actually really occur after June 1st. The only difference is that only releases can be "designated" as a June 1st release while actually taking place before June 1st, but being treated as if they took place after June 1st on the books. Trades do not have any such designation available. However, if a trade takes place after June 1st, it is treated the same as a release after June 1st, or a release with a "June 1st designation", would be.

It would be great if the Pats could sign some pass catching weapons today (OBJ, Chark, Gesicki, Schultz) and a veteran boundary corner. Once they do that they should be near out of cap space and then it will be time to focus on the draft.

I feel the same way... I really like gisikie he would really be good along with Henry in the BOB offense.. I have to remind myself.. the offense is now ran by someone with competence

No, in the link I provided you can select a post June 1 trade designation and see that the Packers can get some cap relief by trading him after that date. If they trade him now, it's a $40 million cap hit

That would be a new mechanism. In the past, regardless of when a trade occurred, the SB proration would move forward. I would message @patscap on twitter and confirm this.

Even if Berrios was some great asset that no one should pass on (which he's not), the Patriots now have a full time slot WR that they're paying 11m a year to, AND a guy in Bourne who can play inside as well. Berrios is the kind of signing that would make sense if they decided to go all in on Hopkins, OBJ, etc, and needed a competent player to fill the slot role. But they're good there now, so Braxton is redundant. And it's not like they need his return ability to with Marcus Jones on the team.
